Boboli

No matter the weather, Fall/Winter is not a time for covering up and hiding away, but for stepping out in chic fashion and high style. The new collections seen at the most important children’s fashion shows showcase a positive blizzard of creativity, bold design, lots of luxe, and more than a dash of that unique Euro-flair. The 78th edition of Pitti Immagine Bimbo was a lively, well attended show- the perfect starting point to view the best Fall/Winter international collections. Of the 7,200 buyers who attended this season, there was a noted increase in the number of foreign buyers led by Russia, Spain, France, Germany, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Since Pitti Bimbo was the first of the season’s shows, visitors were fresh, open minded and ready to be inspired by the new collections. The show’s clear organization of space divided the brands into different areas which were easy to navigate. Sections included the best known big brands seen in the central “Pitti Bimbo”pavilion, the creative boutique lines seen in “New View”, sporty apparel and jeans wear in “Sport Generation” and the refined luxury lines so beautifully displayed in the “Apartment” section. The diverse selection of exhibitors ran the gamut from ultra-elegant, specialoccasion collections to edgy and contemporary sportswear. Among the most impressive of the upscale, dressy lines were those by

Quis Quis, I Pinco Pallino, Ermanno Scervino and Mimisol. These companies and others showcased spectacular apparel and accessories using the highest quality fabrics and lavish luxury embellishment. Colorations ran from subtle ecru and gray, to richly saturated shades of raspberry, red and lapis blue. Generally, there was a strong showing of black and gray in many collections this season. Ermanno Scervino punctuated a sophisticated gray story with bold black Agatha Ruiz and white gingham checks. de la Prada Mimisol featured a knit dress ensemble in black and white wool with yarn trim, while Simonetta presented charming print dresses depicting Teddy bear’s wardrobe tossed on black background. Extensive theme-coordinated collections by Boboli, Fun & Fun, Gaultier Junior, John Galliano Kids and Take Two Teen were some of the most creative of the show. Each of these popular lines displayed outstanding prints and appliqués imaginatively worked into fashionable silhouettes. Fun & Fun was one of the select companies presenting runway shows which went all-out with Agatha Ruiz de la Prada elaborate décor, energetic choreography and of course, adorable child models! Boboli was one of several companies from Spain that joined together for a great runway show including Desigual, Barcarola, Nanos and Pane e Chocolate. The impeccable runway show by Il Gufo was a highlight, showcasing a simply sophisticated collection with the finest fabrics and understated, elegant styling. French designers made a strong showing at Pitti Bimbo, including a wonderful collection of intarsia sweater knits at Rykiel Enfant, and the welcome return of the popular Lili Gaufrette line. Top Dutch companies as Imps and Elfs showed smartly sophisticated sportswear for the younger set, while Knot from Portugal presented a special collection with a Winter maritime theme. On the runway attention with many top level stores, while Gold and Anne Kurris represented some of the best Belgium designs. Pitti Bimbo’s selection of top international brands make this truly international exhibition the most important seasonal event of children’s fashion. In Amsterdam, Kleine Fabriek stepped up to the challenge of presenting another creative, trend setting event housed in a very pleasing environment. This show consistently brings together a great selection of children’s wear companies with fresh and directional designs. Top Dutch lines such Take Two Teen as Oiliy and Room Seven showed strong collections in bright colors and lively patterns. Jottum presented painterly prints of fruits, flowers and scenes of houses. Their Autumnal palette of nature-inspired colors added further richness to eye-catching artwork on lovely dresses. Wild also favored natural hues like orange and green with a large dose of grey. Their photo-real prints of dogs were placed on a printed sweater knit pattern that looked almost real. Tights printed with owls and other patterns were paired with Wild-designed shoes to complete head-to-toe outfits for the nature-loving “Wild” child. Kleine Fabriek is always a showcase for adventurous color stories. Lebig presented vibrantly colored sweater knits, including an extensive sock collection in bright multi- patterns. It’s easy to see why Lebig has been in business for thirty-five successful years. Kidz-art featured a line that was all about saturated, almostneon colored girl’s wear, while Global Affairs exhibited bright, whimsical toys and accessories made in exotic locations around the globe. The show’s Object + area is the place for brands consisting of toys, bedding, furniture and gift items. Delightful creativity can be found in this section which stars the amazing universe of crocheted animals and objects by

for books and even stationary offered tempting selections for buyers. Boy’s wear and lines for teenagers were also well represented at Kleine Fabriek. Tumble ‘n Dry and Mood Street offered high quality, edgy yet very wearable collections for boys and girls, while No No presented a “tween” collection that was avant garde and original. Moker debuted a new boys-only line of rugged sportswear in navy and yellow, featuring high quality chunky knit sweaters. Witty and modern graphics were offered on tee shirts by Stones and Bones and Muy Pop . Organic cotton collections were also prominent at Kleine Fabriek, rounding out an important selection of children’s wear that should not be missed. In Spain, the big news was that the FIMI children’s show was held for the first time in Madrid rather than Valencia. The change of locale gave new energy to this long-established show. Primarily a venue for Spanish brands, FIMI showcased many beautiful dress-up collections highlighting exquisite hand-sewn details that make these lines so special. An elaborate, expertly

choreographed runway show was held at an outside venue near FIMI. Collections by Boboli, Lourdes, Mayoral, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, I Am and others delighted the audience. The vibrant ambience of Madrid should further entice buyers to put FIMI on their list of must-see children’s wear exhibitions.
