WHAT’S IN STORE Dear Readers, In our business,“what’s in store”is the age old question... who’s carrying what? Where are the strongest sales? What can I sell to improve my bottom line? The past few years have proven to be quite a challenge even for industry veterans. Retailers have been doing whatever possible to make the business, while manufacturers have been scrambling to supply goods with a strong sell-through. How do we create a positive “what’s in store” environment for the present that will translate into sales now? Well, that’s really up to us. We all must do our Due Diligence to find the right products for our customers, the right price points for our profit margins. Keep your product fresh, pertinent and stronger than ever by flipping through the pages of It’s A Kidsworld Magazine. In this issue, you will find new products from lines you know and love, as well as new brands that will be just right for your market. Check out our Trend Report and Eurowatch to see how all this and more is being done abroad. And one other thing: don’t miss our innovative and informative Trend Seminar which It’s a Kidsworld is hosting at Atlanta Mart on March 19th. Our best advice for you is not to be afraid to adapt and change it up. I’m looking forward to seeing “what’s in store” for all of us in the coming year.

Lokai - The Perfect Balance

Have you ever experienced a moment that shakes you to your core? We all enter moments when we’re suddenly very aware that our lives can take a turn in an instant. That right behind challenges lie times of great happiness – and vice versa. For Steven Izen, that moment was during his freshman year at Cornell University. His grandfather, “Papa,” was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. It was the first time he felt helpless, knowing he would have to sit back and watch his Papa’s mental faculties and body slowly deteriorate. Days after he received the heartbreaking news, Steven found himself on the beach with his family and friends. He wondered how could some parts of his life feel so aligned while others were so broken? It was this realization that was the driving force behind Lokai. For more information please visit www.MyLokai.com

Galliano’s majestic wolf graphic brings it all together. “ Hand-drawn” artwork is a key trend, as seen in Marcel et Leon’s grizzly bear on gray French terry top. F or the littlest outdoorsman: oversized bear graphic tee with hand knit cap is cozy and cute.with dots, stripes and tropical flowers.

Rocky Horror Baby

Fun, not frightful. Edgy outfits play with daringly dark motifs such as spiders, skulls and crossbones. Rocky Horror Baby from Madrid presented an eye-catching collection, full of strong graphics and irreverent wit. All eyes are on striking sweaters: with black and gray stripes from Fendi, and appliquéd/ intarsia spider design by Cesare Paciotti. A zippered black skirt shows off sharp angles and asymmetrical styling.

Patternalia nouveau folk patterns mix tradition with trendiness. Nordic patterned sweaters make a strong showing in navy: a sweater dress with studded collar by Ermanno Schervino, and a sweater complemented by multiple scarves at Room Seven. Retour’s V-shaped patterns on cream sweater show Native American influence—a great look paired with decorated denim shirt. Woven cotton cardigan lined with jersey makes a nice alternative to a sweater. Hot pink trim adds an unexpected accent on red.

City Gritty

Tumble ‘n Dry

The new York vibe inspires all. Manhattan, Brooklyn and even the Bronx were graphic themes featured at many European kid’s collections, from Belgium to France and Italy. Chat Mechant’s aerialview scene of New york was printed on innovative quilted fabric. The dress’s seamless styling offers a big palette for a big city. young Versace shows an urban edge with bold graffiti, dripping paint print and glowing neon colors.

Rock ‘till You Drop

Take Two Teen

The musical beat that can’t be beat. Gaultier Junior pumps up the volume with a girl’s rock ‘n roll group featuring Punk patches and plaid. Rocking red: Belgium’s Stones and Bones tee shirt is inspired by the London rock scene, while Take Two Teen glams up plaid with red sequins. Sketchy cartoon art of an animal band rocks out on speckled heather top. The long striped scarf adds just the right attitude.

Night Garden

Rocobarroco Kids

All aglow under moonlit stars. S tained glass colors have mystical radiance on dark-grounded winter botanical prints. T he splendor of peacock feathers is captured by a gorgeous full-blown print dress at Jottum. F un & Fun’s drop-waist dress features flowers painted on black, while Rocobarroco Kids brightens black dress with pink roses and jeweled collar. A Night Garden scenic print depicting trees, flowers and forest animals has the evocative glow of a painting by Henri Rousseau.

On the Surface Mixing multi-textured fabrics adds a tactile dimension to designs. S mooth or crinkled, shiny or matte…it’s the contrast of textures that excites interest. I Pinco Pallino featured an iridescent abstract floral print with a unique crackled effect. G old was prominent in many collections. T-Love pairs gold top with gold-flecked knit pants, hat and shiny gold sneakers. Q uilted fabrics were seen in outerwear, sportswear and dresses, such as shiny red quilted dress by Simonetta.

Electric Lace Fresh colors and exotic treatments give lace highvoltage impact.

Fracomina

NoNo

F racomina’s innovative jacket mixes sporty design elements such as ribbed trim and zippers with lacey front and fur collar. The effect is a little bit retro and very Ermanno Scervino original. N ono’s eclectic outfit brings together “denim” printed fleece, heavy lace and a heartcovered tutu. L ace lightens up outerwear also, seen on chartreuse cropped jacket and a quilted nylon coat with lace overlay. Fun & Fun

Simply Said This season’s fashion graphics speak for themselves. G old embroidery spells out luxury at the elegant baby collection of Gold, from Belgium. B yblos trims a cool black top with lace inserts and double zippers. Sequined lettering gets right to the point. P iecing red shirt front with blue floral pink sleeves is “really” fun. A marled yarn hooded top by Flo is sure to please all. Who wouldn’t want to be young, wild and free?!

uring a whirlwind two weeks in January, It’s a Kidsworld covered the best European kid’s fashion trade shows to get an exciting first view of the new collections for Fall/Winter 2015/16. In general, the mood at all shows was lively and upbeat, as the buzz circulated of a steadily improving worldwide economic picture. Fashion trends tended to be an evolution rather than a revolution, as designers refined popular looks with innovative fabric finishes and fresh color palettes, including lots of black, gray and metallics. Outerwear was incorporated into many collections, especially quilted and faux fur, while dresses continued to be a strong category for elegant occasions or every day wear. In Amsterdam, Kleine Fabriek showcased many creative Dutch companies who presented outstanding collections using such themes as Oilily’s colorful “Artist Collaboration” and“Pop Cult”. Jottum was inspired by classic Dutch paintings of landscapes and peacocks to create luminous prints for dresses. The Brndwrks group, consisting of eight companies, encompassed a large and popular area of Kleine Fabriek, showing eclectic and fun sportswear lines by Flo, Mood Street, NoNo and others. For buyers looking to warm up winter with hot color stories, the collections of Kidz-Art and Lebig offered sizzling selections of coordinated styles in almost-neon color shades. In addition to the Dutch companies, an impressive selection of international brands, an area of home furnishing and gifts, Pop-up“stores”and trend seminars helped to round out this excellent children’s wear exhibition. The 80th edition of Pitti Immagine Bimbo was held in Florence on January 22nd to 24th. Pitti Bimbo remains the largest, most comprehensive overview of the world’s top children’s wear collections, maintaining a consistently high level of quality and design while staying up to the minute with new trends. Junior collections by world famous designers presented child-appropriate interpretations of their signature looks: a superb line by Gaultier Junior featuring plaid and stripes; a new, higher priced dressy collection from Ferre called “Gianfranco Ferre”; colorful and whimsical clothes for little ones from Agatha Ruiz de la Prada Baby; a graphically powerful group by Kenzo; top level fabrics and craftsmanship from

Ermanno Scervino; over-the-top but always- in-fun looks for young Versace and elegant, artistic knits from the unmistakable Missoni, including an outstanding layette collection with matching blankets and accessories. Elaborately decorated booths helped to set the tone of many companies, such as a new area showcasing Simonetta, Roberto Cavalli and Fendi together in a spectacular setting with amazing displays. Mimisol’s free-standing area was a delightful showcase of impeccable dresses, chic boy’s wear, hats, shoes and dolls, also featuring a special collection for an exhibition scheduled in Milan called “Feed the Planet.” Knot, a fast-growing company from Portugal, showcased an outstanding collection of sophisticated, high quality clothing with a theme called“Start the Art Collection.” Their Abstract art textile prints and artcentric graphics were complemented by the booth’s coordinated setting which included child’s paintings, creating a full-concept, memorable collection. Pitti Bimbo’s world-famous runway shows were highly enjoyable as well as a great way to see outfits put together and in-action. A group of Spanish designers including Boboli, Barcarola, Desigual and others put on lively shows that energized all with their colorful and creative collections; Fun & Fun showcased contemporary and trendy styles for boys and girls; Philipp Plein’s collection showed a darker style that was prevalent in many lines this season; and Il Gufo displayed a classically chic collection in the most beautiful colors imaginable. For those able to stay in Europe after Pitti Bimbo, the city of Paris offered a full week of important exhibitions that inspired and informed international visitors. Who’s Next was a comprehensive overview of adult, young men’s and junior attire with a small, lively selection of children’s collections. Maison et Objet featured an ever-expanding section of kid’s products including accessories, gifts, toys, interiors and some apparel. Global Affairs, from Amsterdam, presented delightful fair-trade items sourced from around the world, while Ruby Brown showed adorable children’s knit shoes and slippers. The week ended with Playtime Paris, an important showcase for fashion-forward children’s wear designs and a great venue for new companies to get exposure. Of particular interest was a growing group of companies from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, balancing out the more established and excellent French companies that support Paris’s claim to be“The Fashion Capitol of the World.”
