Prunus 'Asano' Synonym: 'Geraldinae' Description: Tree rather narrow funnel-shaped, to 6 m high. Young leaves bronze-green to dark green (RHS 152-A, 146-A). Serration single with glands. Stipules 1318 mm long. Corymbose inflorescence, with two to six flowers each. Peduncles short, 0.11 cm long. Pedicels 23 cm long. Flower in bud deep pink (RHS 65-B). Flower about 3.5 cm in diameter, with a spherical shape. Petals seventy to eighty, elliptical, 1214 × 7 mm, slightly emarginate at the top. Pistil usually one, sometimes two or absent, perfect, 49 mm long, hidden among the petals. The calyx is widely funnel-shaped, 3 × 4 mm, with a gradual transition from pedicel to calyx. Sepals triangular, 2.5 × 5 mm, accessory calyx with 5 little sepals, unserrated, slightly purple. Flowering season is from late April to early May.
