Our Father Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Our Father When we say Our Father - we call out to Our heavenly Father who made us. He knows us, sees us and understands our every thought. Who art in heaven When we say Heaven - it does not mean that God lives far away from us - it means God loves us very much, He abides in Heaven up above and lives in our hearts especially when we love Him more and more and call out to Him. 4
Hallowed be thy name No name on earth, sky or universe is as beautiful, more profound or more powerful than God’s Holy Name. We exalt God’s Holiness. Thy kingdom come God’s kingdom is a kingdom of Love, Peace, Joy and Happiness. God’s world is pure and we are also waiting for God to come again. Thy will be done In all things we see God’s decision or Will in our life. Mother Mary said “Let it be done unto me according to Thy Holy Will” - thereby accepting God’s plan in her life. We too must make this our life’s path. On earth as it is in heaven We ask God’s will to be manifested in our life, our family’s life, in every part of the world - the same way it is in God’s perfect Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread We ask God in humble supplication to provide us what we need daily. 5
Forgive us our trespasses At all times we need God to love us and forgive us. He is a kind, loving and merciful God. We prayerfully ask God to forgive us our sins. As we forgive those who tresspass against us When we ask God to forgive us we depend on His mercy, should we not also forgive our friends / brothers - who hurt us? And lead us not into temptation God NEVER EVER tempts our desires tempt us to sin. We ask God to help us in these moments. We ask Him to give us strength to say no. But deliver us from evil We ask God to protect us from things (bad) which harm us. Amen

THE APOSTLES’ CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

The Apostles’ Creed is so called because it is rightly considered to be a faithful summary of the apostles’ faith. - Catechism of the Catholic Church; 194. We will look at The Apostles’ Creed in two parts. The first part explains the role of God the Father and the life of God the Son. The second part discusses the key elements in the lives of the saints (believers.)
Part 1 The Father and the Son Article 1 “I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.” This means, we as Christians believe that God is the One who created the universe and all that is in it-including us!
Article 2 “and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord” The Apostles’ Creed is a statement of what Christians believe to be true about God and those who believe in Him. When we say “His only Son,” 27
that means we as Christians believe Jesus is God’s only Son . When we say “our Lord,” it means we claim Him as our Lord.
Article 3
“who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary.” It means, we as Christians believe God, as the Holy Spirit, formed baby Jesus in Mary.
Article 4
“suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.” Pontius Pilate was the Roman governor of Judea. He sentenced Jesus to be crucified, which is death on a cross. The Roman centurion testified that Jesus died. Joseph of Arimathea buried Jesus in a tomb and sealed it with a stone.
Article 5
“He descended into hell”, means that Jesus did really die and through his death for us conquered death and the devil “who has the power of death”. 28
Article 6 “on the third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven” This statement is key to the Christian faith. “He rose again,” means as Christians, we believe that God the Father, raised Jesus from death to life. Jesus proved this Himself by appearing to over 500 witnesses during the 40-day period between God raising Him from the dead and God lifting Him up to heaven.
Part 2: The Spirit and the Saints Article 7 “and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.” “Seated at the right hand of the Father” means seated on God’s throne in heaven . He will come to judge everyone who is alive or dead when He returns. Those who believe in Jesus will be judged and rewarded fairly for their thoughts, words, and deeds. 29
Article 8 “I believe in the Holy Spirit” As Christians, we believe in one God. This one God is a mystery because He is three in one. He is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that His Spirit would lead us in truth. He guides us in making choices that please God. The Holy Spirit is also called the Counselor.
Article 9 “the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints” “The holy catholic church” refers to the whole group of believers from every tribe, nation, and denomination.The leader of the Roman Catholic Church is the Pope.Saints means believers. The “communion of saints” does not refer to the taking of the bread and the cup at the Lord’s Supper. In the Apostles’ Creed, it means coming together. 30
Article 10 “the forgiveness of sins” As Christians, we believe in the forgiveness of sins. Sin is doing wrong in God’s eyes.. When Jesus died to take the punishment for our sins, He bought total forgiveness for all who believe.
Articles 11 & 12 “the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.” Resurrection means rising from the dead. As Christians, we believe that all who believe in Jesus will be raised from the dead and will have life everlasting with Him. Jesus promises everlasting life to all who believe in Him. That means even if our body dies, our souls will live forever close to God.

the 7 Sacraments 1. Baptism Baptism is the very first sacrament that you can receive. When we are baptized, we become children of God, members of the church, and are given eternal life. A person is only baptized once. The word “baptize” comes from the Greek word, baptizein, and means to “plunge” or “immerse.” A priest, a minister, or a lay person can baptize. What you have to do is to say, “I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”; at the same time pouring water over the person that is being baptized. There are two symbols with baptism. One is water, to symbolize the washing of sins, and the second is light to symbolize Christ Himself. Baptism washes away Original Sin. Original sin is the sin we inherited from Adam and Eve. They disobeyed God and their sin is handed down to us. 40

2. Confession This sacrament has different names. Sometimes it is called, the Sacrament of Penance and sometimes it is called, the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In this sacrament you confess your sins to a priest. When we go to confession, we receive graces from God to make it easier not to sin again. We should receive this sacrament as often as possible.

3. Confirmation The Sacrament of Confirmation is when the Holy Spirit comes to you in a special way making you strong in faith. Those who received this Sacrament, by the power of the Holy Spirit, grow in faith and are ready for adult Christian life. We are normally Confirmed by the Bishop. He places his hands on us, prays, and blesses us with Holy Oil called chrism.

4. The Holy Eucharist Through the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist Jesus is with us in the form of bread and wine. Through prayers, by asking the Holy Sprit to come upon the gifts, (the bread and wine), the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus. Only a priest can do this. We believe that God is in the Eucharistic bread and wine. So they should be adored and honoured. Christ is present in both the bread and wine, so we don’t have to receive both. Usually we receive the bread. We should receive this sacrament daily.

5. Holy Matrimony The sacrament of Holy Matrimony is when a man and a woman get married. They make promises to each other and to God to live together helping each other in good times and bad times, in health and in sickness, forever. The sacrament of marriage gives grace to the man and woman so that they can live together, support each other and raise their children.

6. Holy Orders The Sacrament of Holy Orders, also called the Sacrament of Ordination, is for men to become priests. This sacrament was given to us by Jesus at the Last Supper. The first men who received the power of priesthood were the apostles. The apostles passed on that gift to us. A priest is given special powers through ordination. He then can give us all the sacraments. Priests are called in a special way to help us and to preach the Word of God.

7. Anointing of the Sick The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, also called Extreme Unction, is given when a priest prays and blesses you with Holy Oil when you are in danger of dying. The sacrament gives you a special grace and strength. If you are conscious, you should make a confession before death. If you aren’t conscious, this sacrament will gain pardon for you. You can receive this sacrament more than once.

7 Holy Spirit Gifts of the
At Baptism, we receive seven special gifts from the Holy Spirit. These gifts are freely given to us to help us live as followers of Jesus and to build up the Body of Christ, the Church. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are sealed and strengthened within us at Confirmation. These seven gifts help us to respond to the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, to make good choices, and to serve God and others.

The Ten Commandments are listed in Exodus chapter 20 as given to the Children of Israel at Mount Sinai. The Ten Commandments are also found in Deuteronomy chapter 5. The commandments are essential for our spiritual good health and growth, and they form the basis for social justice. 1. I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange gods before me. 2. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain. 3. Remember to keep holy the LORD’S Day. 4. Honour your father and your mother. 5. You shall not kill. 6. You shall not commit adultery. 7. Sign of the Cross
The word rosary comes from Latin and means a garland of roses, the rose being one of the flowers used to symbolize the Virgin Mary. Days: Joyful: Mondays, Saturdays, Sundays of Advent, and Sundays from Epiphany until Lent. Luminous: Thursdays throughout the year. Sorrowful: Tuesdays, Fridays, and daily from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday. Glorious: Wednesdays, and Sundays throughout the year.
