Women's Division shows its 'art and sole' at the Spring Event On May 21, Women’s Division members joined together to celebrate another successful year at the Dollar-a-Day Spring Event. The cocktail hour featured a boutique of local vendors and the opportunity to purchase featured speaker Jane Weitzman’s book “Art and Sole,” with proceeds going to the Federation. Weitzman and her fellow speakers Michal Barkai and Hal Appleman encouraged the attendees to “walk the talk” of philanthropy. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible, and stay tuned for news about next year!

4 JULY/AUGUST 2015 | HAKOL LEHIGH VALLEY

On June 1, 23 Pomegranate and Lion of Judah women traveled together to New York City for a day of culture and community. The group were treated to a guided tour of the special exhibit “Revolution of the Eye: Modern Art and the Birth of American Television,” which explored how avant-garde art influenced and

shaped the look and content of network television in its formative years from the late 1940s to the mid-1970s. The early creators of American television, many of whom were young and Jewish, were heavily influenced by modernism, and their risk-taking and experimentation mirrored the world of fine arts. The exhibit

included works by Saul Bass, Marcel Duchamp, and Andy Warhol alongside clips from television shows like “Batman,” “The Ed Sullivan Show” and “The Twilight Zone.” The women also enjoyed lunch at Tevere Restaurant, a New York City establishment that specializes in the kosher cuisine of Rome.
