spark

JAGS is a can-do school. Our curriculum is ambitious and designed to be stimulating. We offer more than 25 subjects at A level, in every combination. For Year 13, the Liberal Studies programme, taught jointly with Dulwich College, adds fresh and diverse perspectives to your academic studies. Success in exams is important, but it’s only part of the JAGS journey. Girls excel in whatever inspires them and develop as real, well-rounded people on the way. We want them to be happy. The outstanding pastoral care here is key to the healthy, responsible partnership between pupils, parents and the school. At JAGS teaching is in our soul. Our teachers are much more than just specialists in their fields: they’re mentors and they’re guides. Passionate about their subjects and their pupils, they teach through conversation. Whether in a lively debate in a lesson about deforestation, the European Union or China, or a simple chat with a sixth former about her individual study of Burne-Jones, they listen, they understand and they encourage girls to choose the right road on their journey and never to stop learning.

Performance The world is your canvas

Senior School Performance The world is your canvas

express

We make music for the love of it, but regularly perform in competitions and concerts both in London and throughout Europe. We’re proud of the legacy of Vaughan Williams and Holst, JAGS’s earliest music teachers. Our pupils’ exceptional art is on display everywhere. Girls express themselves through visual images for their own sake, but also at exhibitions, such as in the Cancer Research Young Art competition at the Royal College of Art. And some of the world’s engineers of the future may be here now. Enthused by our sixth form, two Y10 girls won the TeamTech Consumer Innovation of the Year 2015. Eventually they will see their product on the shelves. Sophisticated production work is the hallmark of the JAGS drama department. The professionally designed theatre makes for dynamic and innovative performances. Taking productions to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is an annual thrill. Whatever the season, our all-weather pitch, playing fields and our state-of-the-art swimming pool, gyms and dance studios mean girls are engaged in sport. Our highly experienced professionals nurture enthusiasm and coach our teams with success at county, national and international level. Explore JAGS Further 020 8693 1181 // jags.org.uk //

Community Together is better

Senior School Community Together is better

reflect

We have the strongest possible sense of community at JAGS. This is captured in our assemblies where staff and pupils reflect together (without taking ourselves too seriously). We’re at our best when the whole senior school work as one – for example through our annual Poetry Festival, Multicultural Evening, Pop Fest, and the fabulous House Art Fashion Show, all of which generate huge surges of creative energy. We have been imaginative fundraisers for AFFCAD UK, a charity helping slum children in Uganda, started by one of our teachers. In turn, a sixth form girl inspired teachers and pupils to bring in 1.2 tonnes of items for the PECAN food bank. We look outwards to the world we live in, taking part in active citizenship. From national pilot projects and volunteering, to befriending local residents with dementia, computer training with Silver Surfers, or mentoring Year 3 pupils from 11 local schools on our Saturday Literacy Scheme, our pupils leave JAGS with a desire to make a difference to the world around them. And our vibrant ‘House’ spirit ensures that every girl knows that her contribution matters. There’s always a healthy determination to win the annual House Shield by taking part in House competitions including maths, drama, music, sports and quizzes, or by gaining credits for academic work or helpfulness. influence

We encourage you to spread your wings. Field work in Marrakesh and Iceland, drawing in Paris or New York, exchanges with schools in Japan – these are just a few of the diverse destinations for older girls. Closer to home, we visit Hastings to learn more about coastal processes, and younger explorers discover more about themselves on our residential weekend at Hindleap Warren. Memories of the battlefields in France, gazing at Goya and Picasso, soaking up the romance of Venice, viewing ancient sites in Sicily or the snowy German markets – whatever your age, your adventures will be enriching and memorable. We want our influences to be as wide as the world itself. Visits include the EU, the Olympic site, the British Museum, Tate Modern or the Royal Opera House. Activities include exploring ecosystems in Kew Gardens, Columbia Day, or a Commedia masterclass. If we add exchanges with overseas schools and the Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions – you’ll understand how life can become so busy. The future is bright for JAGS leavers. They can go anywhere, including placements in the City, setting up charities in Africa, working in the National Theatre, turtle conservation, art college, or entrance straight to university. JAGS girls have become engineers, journalists, midwives, music therapists, scientists, translators, lawyers, doctors and vets – no matter where your JAGS journey takes you, you always will be an important part of our community.
