JAPS is a very happy place where we are dedicated to providing first-class pastoral care. Pupils feel confident that they are liked and respected. They learn how to help each other in their personal and social development. We know that the world can be challenging to the very young, so we’re always there with a friendly word and a smile. Everyone, including Nursery Nurses and Teaching Assistants in the pre-prep, is involved in the pastoral care of each pupil at JAPS. The class teachers focus on the overall welfare of each child, ensuring that pupils feel happy and valued; this means they are ready to learn. Staff are also quick to get to know the children’s parents and regularly available for one-to-one meetings. Buddy Groups meet once every half term for further personal and social development in creative activities. Girls stay in the same Buddy Group with the same Buddy teacher. This enables a high level of care, individual understanding and a true sense of belonging. The journey is everything at JAPS; its achievements, its surprises, its joys. Because they know they belong, our children enjoy every turn of the road.

Throughout JAPS, children’s work is regularly monitored and assessed, and our Learning Support department, integrated throughout the school, offers extra help, either for a child who may lack confidence, or to provide highly able children with interesting extension activities. Our indoor and outdoor activities are designed so children learn through spontaneous play with outdoor areas that become creative extensions to the classroom. Inspired teaching embraces all learning styles, building on previous successes of pupils and engaging them fully in their development. Vibrant, specialist teaching in French, PE, Computing and Music ensure our children are motivated still further. In the middle school girls enjoy specialist teaching for most of their subjects whilst still being regularly taught by their Form Teacher; and our well-equipped science room, design technology room, art room and computing suite enable the girls to enjoy practical activities. Those year groups which take the National Curriculum tests gain outstanding results and we adapt the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies for all our talented pupils. We make space for children to be the best that they can be – whatever their talents. Explore JAPS Further 020 8299 8416 // jags.org.uk //

play

Warmth, happiness and vitality are at the heart of everything we do at JAPS. Children are encouraged to work to the best of their abilities. But we also want them to play. Most of our children join us when they are either four (pre-prep) or seven (prep). We look after the whole child at JAPS and promote their spiritual, moral and cultural development alongside the academic, preparing them for all the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences that life offers. Our high standard of teaching means children try their best, and teachers both support their determination and celebrate their success. To enrich our exciting and diverse curriculum, we also offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities, available to girls at every stage of their school life. We seize every opportunity to develop and extend the girls’ own interests, teamwork and leadership skills, and simply to provide enjoyment and relaxation. Life at JAPS should be fun!

At JAPS we believe in developing active, articulate people who take responsibility for what goes on around them. We encourage them to express their opinions confidently and appropriately and guide them to take the next, positive steps. Our School Councils in both the pre-prep and middle school encourage everyone to participate actively in school life. The vision is to give every child at JAPS a ‘voice’ and help to improve the school through tactful negotiation and by communicating with everyone involved in the school. We organise visits to theatre, galleries, museums and residential trips all designed to enrich the lessons in the classroom. From middle school, girls compete in a wide range of sporting events and there is inspiration from visiting writers and poets as well as a host of workshops. Girls take part in musical events and concerts both in and out of the school. Older JAPS pupils meet the challenge of senior school exams very confidently. Many pupils are also successful in gaining scholarships. JAPS is proud that our pupils join the senior school confident in their abilities across all subjects, with a burning curiosity about the world and determination to understand and shape their role within it.
