Expectations are at an all-time high for the South Dakota State University wrestling team as it enters the 2016-17 season. After four years of steady growth under head coach Chris Bono, the Jackrabbits are ready to take the next step. For Bono, that means having Jackrabbit wrestlers not only contending for, but winning, Big 12 Conference titles and bringing home All-America accolades. The Jackrabbits return eight starters from last year’s squad that compiled a 14-6 dual record and sent a program-best five wrestlers to the NCAA Division I Championships. Leading the way is Seth Gross. A sophomore from Apple Valley, Minnesota, Gross will drop down to the 133-pound class after wrestling at 141 pounds during the 2015-16 season. In his first season with the Jackrabbits, Gross compiled a 26-14 overall record, finished as runnerup at the Big 12 Conference Championship and recorded the highest finish by a Jackrabbit at the 2016 national meet, ending up one win shy of earning All-America honors. Gross competed in the 60-kilogram (132pound) division in UWW national and international competition during the recent offseason. He finished as runner-up at the UWW Junior Freestyle Nationals in April, then earned a spot on the United States Men’s Freestyle Team for the UWW Junior World Championships by winning his weight class at the World Team Trials. With Gross dropping down a weight class, redshirt freshman Henry Pohlmeyer is the leading candidate to hold the 141-pound position in the lineup. Pohlmeyer showed promise in open tournaments last season in his first collegiate season, winning a pair of titles and posting a 16-5 record with 11 of his wins coming by fall. Another redshirt freshman who could crack the lineup is 184-pounder Martin Mueller. With incumbent Brady Ayers possibly taking his redshirt season, Mueller could be counted on to fortify the lineup in the upper weight after posing an 8-2 mark in open competition a year ago. About the only other question mark in the Jackrabbit lineup is at 157 pounds, where junior Colin Holler and redshirt freshman Brett Bye will battle to replace four-time national qualifier Cody Pack. Holler has been a spot starter during his Jackrabbit career, but was limited to four matches last season. Bye recorded three top-three tournament finishes in open competition while wrestling at 165 pounds. The remainder of the lineup remains intact from a season ago. Seniors Ben Gillette and

Alex Kocer return at 125 and 149 pounds, respectively, with juniors Luke Zilverberg (165), David Kocer (174), Nate Rotert (197) and Alex Macki (heavyweight) all returning after being mainstays in the 2015-16 lineup. Alex Kocer made his second appearance at the NCAA Championships in three seasons last March, finishing with a 24-12 overall mark. He posted a 14-5 record in duals and was the first Jackrabbit to earn a Big 12 Conference Wrestler of the Week award. Gillette solidified the Jackrabbit lineup with a 20-13 overall record after dropping down to 125 pounds at the start of the calendar year. David Kocer led the team with 30 victories last season as he made his first NCAA appearance in the 174-pound division. He turned in runner-up finishes at the Warren Williamson/ Daktronics Open and Cyclone Open early in the 2015-16 campaign. Rotert qualified for the national meet for the second year in a row at 197 pounds and compiled a 27-11 record, including a 12-5 mark in duals. He was victorious at the Cyclone open after a runner-up finish at the season-opening Warren Wiliamson/Daktronics Open, and later advanced to the title match at the Big 12 Conference Championship. Zilverberg was won of seven Jackrabbit wrestlers to win 20 or more matches a season ago, posting a 22-12 record after moving up to 165 after previously wrestling at 149 pounds. Zilverberg won seven matches by major decision to rank second on the team in that category behind David Kocer’s nine. Macki turned in an 8-19 record in his first season as the starter at heavyweight.

DAVID KOCER led the Jackrabbits with 30 wins during the 2015-16 season, while qualifying for the NCAA Tournament at 174 pounds.

SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY

The South Dakota State University campus has seen numerous building projects the past 10 years. And it is not slowing. Projects recently completed include Dana J. DykhousE Stadium, the Architecture, Mathematics and Engineering Building, the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex and an updated Medary Commons, which has been renamed the Enrollment Services Center. Other recent projects include: • The $48 million, 144,000-square-foot Avera Health and Science Center; • Daktronics Engineering Building, a 33,000-square-foot expansion within the College of Engineering; • Jackrabbit Village, a complex of suite-style residence halls; and • Expansion of the Dairy-Microbiology building; Many facility projects and enhancements to academic programs were identified through the SDSU Foundation’s “It Starts With State” campaign, a comprehensive fund-raising inititative that raised more than $255 million over a five-year period from 2008-13. Also in the spring of 2013, South Dakota State University officials rolled out IMPACT 2018: A Strategic Vision for South Dakota State University. The five-year plan features four main goals: • Promote academic excellence through quality programs, engaged learners and an innovative teaching and learning environment; • Generate new knowledge, encourage innovations and promote artistic and creative works that contribute to the public good and result in social, cultural or economic development for South Dakota, the region, the nation and the world.; • Extend the reach and depth of the University by developing strategic programs and collaborations, and • Secure human and fiscal resources to ensure high performance through enhanced financial, management and governance systems.

BIG 12 CONFERENCE South Dakota State University was one of six schools to receive an invitation to join the Big 12 Conference as an affiliate member for wrestling, league officials announced in July 2015. “Joining the Big 12 Conference in wrestling is huge for SDSU, our wrestling program and the fans of our program,” Jackrabbit head coach Chris Bono said. “We are now in one of the premier conferences in the country, which will bring more attention to our program across the country and let our student-athletes compete against the nation’s best.” The affiliate member additions were effective beginning with the 2015-16 academic year.

6

Affiliate members were immediately eligible to compete for the conference's postseason championship and the league’s automatic qualification to NCAA postseason competition. The 2016 Big 12 Wrestling Championship were held at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri, with Oklahoma State winning the team title. The 2017 Big 12 Wrestling Championship will again be held at a neutral site, with the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, serving as the site for the two-event March 4-5. Besides SDSU, the five other members of the Western Wrestling Conference — Air Force,

Northern Colorado, North Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming — also received affiliate membership. The Big 12 Conference now features 10 wrestling programs with Iowa State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and West Virginia previously making up the league’s slate of teams.

CHRIS BONO • Head Coach

C

hris Bono has engineered a successful rebuilding process during his tenure as head coach of the South Dakota State University wrestling program

Entering his fifth season, Bono has helped mentor Jackrabbit wrestlers to qualify for the NCAA Championships 12 times, including a program-best five wrestlers during the 2015-16 season. In dual competition, Bono has led the Jackrabbits to a 36-34 record that includes back-to-back winning seasons for the first time at the Division I level. Bono's career dual record stands at 75-51, including a highly successful three-year run at Chattanooga. The Jackrabbits entered a new era during the 2015-16 season by joining the Big 12 Conference as an affiliate member. After dropping early season duals to nationally ranked Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State and Iowa, the Jackrabbits reeled off a schoolrecord 12 consecutive dual victories that propelled them into the top 25 of the Division I team rankings for the first time.

At the 2016 Big 12 Championship, SDSU turned in a fourth-place finish as Seth Gross (141 pounds), Cody Pack (157) and Nate Rotert (197) all finished as runners-up in their respective weight classes. That Jackrabbit trio were joined by brothers Alex and David Kocer from the 149- and 174-pound weight classes, respectively, as qualifiers for the NCAA Championships in New York City. Four of the five Jackrabbit wrestlers won at least one match at the NCAA Championships as the Jackrabbits finished in a tie for 39th place. Gross and Pack each finished one win away from achieving All-America status. Pack was making his fourth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships. During the 2014-15 season, the Jackrabbits recorded their first winning dual in nine seasons and three SDSU wrestlers – Pack, Rotert and J.J. Everard – qualified for the NCAA Championships. Pack reached the national tournament for the third consecutive year at 157 pounds and was one win away from achieving All-America status. The Jackrabbits also turned in their highest finish at the NCAA West Regional/Western Wrestling Conference Championships with a third-place finish. SDSU also had three NCAA qualifiers during the 2013-14 season as Pack, Joe Brewster and Alex Kocer all qualified out of the NCAA West Regional/Western Wrestling Conference Championships. As a team, the Jacks finished in fifth place with 34.5 points at the NCAA West Regional/WWC Championship, with Kocer and Pack winning individual titles at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively. In his first year as head coach at SDSU, Bono led the team to a 5-12 dual record, 1-4 Western Wrestling Conference record and fifth in the conference standings. Coach Bono and the SDSU coaching staff ushered in a new era in Jackrabbit wrestling with the sixth-best recruiting class in the nation (The Open Mat, Amateur Wrestling News). Eight student-athletes joined the wrestling team on signing day, including three ranked by AWN. The No. 6 ranking made it the best recruiting class for any sport in the history of Jackrabbit athletics. Bono was the first NCAA Division I wrestling coach to participate in the Samaritan’s Feet movement, coaching a dual barefoot against Simpson during the 2012-13 season to raise awareness for the organization, which provides shoes for needy children around the world.

COACH BONO While leading the Jackrabbits, Bono was also tabbed as coach for the U.S. Men’s Freestyle team at the 2013 Pan American Championships. In the world event, Bono led Team USA to a 13-point victory. Under Bono’s leadership, the Jackrabbit wrestling program has consistently raised the bar in promoting the sport through innovative social media strategies. SDSU has received the Gold Standard honor from the National Wrestling Coaches Association and Elite Level Sport Marketing two times as part of their Best of Brand Awards. His teams also have performed well in the classroom, placing in the top 25 for team grade-point average in rankings compiled by the National Wrestling Coaches Association each of the past two seasons. Individually, eight Jackrabbits wrestlers were honored on the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 Conference Wrestling Team. Previously the head coach at Chattanooga, Bono led the Mocs to three Southern Conference titles and coached two All-Americans and 19 NCAA qualifiers from 2006-09. During his three seasons, UTC scheduled many nationally ranked teams. Bono coached the Mocs to wins over Ohio State in 2009 and 2010; the Buckeyes were ranked No. 8 at the time of the second loss. Bono was named head coach at UTC on July 29, 2006, and wasted little time directing the Mocs to their 22nd Southern Conference championship. He coached nine wrestlers to the 2007 NCAA Championships, a feat matched only by Minnesota. In his first season, Bono guided the Mocs to a 16-1 dual-match record, including an 11-match win streak to start the season and a victory at No. 14 Ohio State. He received high consideration for National Coach of the Year honors from RevWrestling.com. Bono joined the UTC staff in 2005 after serving nine years as an assistant coach at Iowa State. He was the Cyclones’ head assistant coach for five seasons. In Bono’s final year on the ISU staff, the Cyclones earned a third-place finish in the Big 12 Conference and a sixth-place showing at the NCAA Championships. He was named the National Wrestling Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year in 2002 for his role in ISU’s success. Bono, who earned a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science, lettered at Iowa State from 1994-97 and ranks fifth on the program's all-time wins list with 130 victories, incouding a 115-17 record his final three seasons. Bono won the NCAA 150-pound title as a junior. A four-time NCAA participant, Bono placed fifth at the NCAA Championships as a sophomore and second as a senior. As a freshman, he finished eighth at the Big Eight Conference Championships and was runner-up finish his sophomore year. Bono won the Big Eight title as a junior and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the inaugural Big 12 Conference Championship in 1997. Following his senior season, Bono embarked on a wrestling career on the international stage. He wrestled as a freestyle competitor and defeated Doug Schwab, 5-4, to take third place at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials in Las Vegas.

COACH BONO’S CAREER HIGHLIGHTS • Has led SDSU to consecutive winning dual seasons and enters 2016-17 campaign with 36-34 record in four seasons • Jackrabbit wrestlers have combined to qualify for the NCAA Championships 12 times, including a program-best five in 2016 • SDSU won a school-record 12 consecutive duals during the 2015-16 season. • The Jackrabbits have earned NWCA Team Academic Awards each of the past two seasons

In 2003, Bono won the 145.5-pound title at the U.S. Senior Freestyle National Championships in Las Vegas, qualifying for the World Team Trials in Indianapolis, where he was runner-up. Bono was a U.S. World Cup team member, earning the gold medal at the 2003 World Cup Wrestling Championships in Boise, Idaho, and was a member of the national team at the 2003 Titan Games in San Jose, Calif. JUSTIN SELL • Athletics Director

J

Seventh Year Alma Mater: • Bowling Green (Ohio), 1991

14

ustin Sell, who was honored as a recipient of the 2014-15 Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year Award, has moved Jackrabbit Athletics forward in a number of areas of its Division I pursuits since being introduced as the 12th director of athletics at South Dakota State University on May 7, 2009. At South Dakota State, Sell oversees the Jackrabbits’ 21-sport Division I varsity athletics program. Under his leadership, Jackrabbit Athletics has continually made strides in athletic competition, in the classroom, in fundraising and in reconnecting with alumni. Athletically, the Jackrabbits have claimed 27 regular and postseason league championships in seven different sports since 2009-10. That broad-based success has led SDSU to claim The Summit League Commissioner’s Cup all-sports trophy five times (2010-11, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16), along with winning both the Summit League’s Dr. William Steinbrecher Men’s All-Sports Award and Dr. Helen Smiley Women’s All-Sports Award during both the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. SDSU also claimed the Steinbrecher award during the 2012-13 and 2015-16 seasons, and was the recipient of the league’s Sportsmanship Award, an award voted upon by its peers, during the 2010-11 season. In the classroom, SDSU student-athletes continually post a grade-point average of 3.2 or higher in more than 70 different majors, which led SDSU to winning The Summit League’s Institutional Academic Achievement Award for the 2009-10 and 2012-13 academic years, and the Missouri Valley Football Conference Academic Award in all seven years in the league (2008-14). In January of 2011, Sell announced a partnership with Learfield Sports, signing a 10-year deal worth $13 million for SDSU Athletics. Learfield Sports directs all aspects of the partnership, including managing and selling multimedia and sponsorship rights. Additionally, Sell directed the implementation of the Letterwinners Club, which provides opportunities for Jackrabbit Athletics to reconnect and stay connected with former student-athletes, while supporting current student-athletes at SDSU. Sell also has implemented other aggressive marketing and fundraising initiatives which have resulted in record average attendance for football during the 2009 season, as well as the highest number of donors and dollars donated to the Jackrabbit Club. Ticket sales totaled more than $1 million for the first time during the 2011-12 academic year, and has surpassed that total every year since. In addition, the Jackrabbit Athletic Scholarship Auction raised a record $603,000 in April 2015. On the facilities front, Sell has overseen dramatic upgrades and expansion of competition and practice venues through development and implementation of the 2025 SDSU Athletic Facilities Master Plan. The Dykhouse Student-Athlete Center was completed in 2010, and Sell spearheaded efforts to add permanent seating and a press box at Erv Huether Field, as well as other recent improvements to the home of Jackrabbit baseball. More recently, construction of the $32 million Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex was completed in the fall of 2014. The facility, which serves as a competition venue for indoor track and field and as a practice facility for football and a number of other outdoor sports, contains one of only a handful of 300-meter indoor tracks in the country, as well as expanded facilities for sports medicine and strength and conditioning. In addition, work is nearing completion on the construction of the $65 million Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, which will serve as the new home of Jackrabbit football. The 19,000-seat stadium is scheduled to open in the fall of 2016. In the fall of 2014, Sell was appointed by the NCAA Board of Directors to represent The Summit League and Missouri Valley Football Conference on the newly formed Division I Council. Born in Salem, Oregon, and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Sell came to South Dakota State from the University of Northern Iowa, where he worked in various roles, both at the university and in the community for 10 years. He also worked at Villanova University, Syracuse University, Ohio State University and Bowling Green State University. Sell gained further experience working in the private sector for various sports teams and events. In the Brookings community, where Sell lives with his wife, Jennie, and their four children: Abbie, Zach, Josh and Eric, he serves as vice president of the Brookings Chamber of Commerce, vice president for the Brookings Friends of Baseball and is a member of the Brookings Health System Board of Trustees. Sell earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) in 1991 and completed a master’s degree in physical education/sport administration at The Ohio State University in 1992. 2016-17 JACKRABBIT WRESTLING MEDIA GUIDE

2015-16 R EVIEW

SEASON RECAP The South Dakota State University wrestling team put together its most successful season at the Division I level during the 2015-16 campaign. The Jackrabbits posted their most dual wins at the Division I level, finishing with a 14-6 record, and also saw a program-best five wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Championships in March. SDSU faced one of the most challenging schedules in the nation during the first month of the season as four of its first six duals ended in losses to nationally ranked opponents — Minnesota (24th), Virginia Tech (sixth), Oklahoma State (fourth) and Iowa (second). After weathering that early storm, the Jackrabbits began to hit their stride in early December with three dual wins at the South Dakota Showcase. SDSU later ended the calendar year on a high note with a convincing 24-15 home victory over rival North Dakota State. Following a two-week layoff during the 2015-16 LEADERS OVERALL WINS 1. holiday season, the Jackrabbits returned to action by turning in a 10th-place finish out of 43 teams at the 53rd Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships in Evanston, Illinois. Senior Cody Pack highlighted the SDSU effort with a runner-up finish in the 157-pound weight class. David Kocer finished sixth at 174 pounds and Nate Rotert placed seventh in the 197-pound weight class. Pack also reached a milestone during the Midlands Championships, becoming the first Jackrabbit wrestler in the Division I era — and 13th in program history — to record 100 career wins. His 100th victory came in dramatic fashion as he trailed ninth-seeded Markus Scheider of Columbia, 5-2, entering the third period of their quarterfinal match. Pack managed an escape seven seconds into the period and followed moments later with a takedown and pin to secure his 100th career win and a place in the tournament semifinals. A native of Quincy, California, Pack would go on to finish tied for sixth in career victories at SDSU with a 114-36 record. Dual action resumed with the start of the new calendar year, and the Jackrabbits picked up where they left off. A dominating 34-3 road win at league foe Northern Colorado was followed by four consecutive home wins, including two over Big 12 Conference rivals Air Force and Wyoming. After two more road victories at Utah Valley and Boise State to open February, SDSU cracked the USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings for the first time. The Jackrabbits proved worthy of their national standing as they extended their dual winning streak to a school-record 12 matches with a hard-fought 18-15 victory over West Virginia on Feb. 12 before a record crowd of 1,016 at Frost Arena. SDSU’s winning streak was snapped two days later at seventh-ranked Oklahoma. The dual wasn’t decided until the final bout, with the Sooners prevailing,19-13. The Jackrabbits recovered to end the dual season on a high note by sweeping the season series against North Dakota State with a 23-14 victory in Fargo. SDSU book-ended a streak of six consecutive wins with major decisions by 133-pounder Brance Simms and David Kocer at 174 pounds to secure the dual victory. SDSU carried that momentum into its first appearance in the Big 12 Championship, which was held March 5-6 in Kansas City, Missouri. Seven Jackrabbits remained in contention after

BRANCE SIMMS was a mainstay in the SDSU lineup at 133 pounds during his Jackrabbit career. The Iowa native posted a 15-13 record during the 2015-16 season and finished his Jackrabbit career with a 73-61 record.

the first day competition, including finalists Seth Gross at 141 pounds, Pack (157) and Rotert (197). Although all three lost to wrestlers from team champion Oklahoma State in the finals, they did earn berths to the NCAA Championships. David Kocer also was awarded an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships by virtue of his fourth-place finish at 174 pounds, and his older brother, Alex, received an at-large selection in the 149-pound weight class. At the NCAA Championships March 17-19 at Madison Square Garden in New York, four of the five SDSU qualifiers advanced to the second day of competition. Both Gross and Pack wound up one win away from becoming the first Jackrabbit wrestler in the Division I era to attain All-America status. Pack won his first two matches to advance to the quarterfinals before dropping his next two matches. Gross won his first match and then recorded two more victories in the consolation rounds before being knocked out of the tournament with his second loss of the season to Solomon Chishko of Virginia Tech. In all eight of the Jackrabbits’ regular starters notched at least 20 overall wins during the 2015-16 season, led by David Kocer’s 30. Six SDSU wrestlers won at least 10 matches in dual competition, including Pack, who posted a 16-1 mark. His only loss came in his first dual bout of the season, Nov. 7 against Andrew Atkinson of Virginia.

2016-17 JACKRABBIT WRESTLING MEDIA GUIDE

NCAA REVIEW NEW YORK — The South Dakota State University wrestling team wrapped up a successful season at the 2016 NCAA Division I Championships contested at Madison Square Garden. The Jackrabbits entered the second day of the national tournament with four of their school-record five national qualifiers still in contention; however, the Jackrabbits went a combined 2-5 in competition during the Friday sessions. Redshirt freshman Seth Gross was the lone victorious Jackrabbit on Day 2, winning two of his three matches in the 141-pound consolation bracket. Both of Gross’ victories were third-period come-from-behind victories as he rallied for a 12-10 decision over Purdue’s Danny Sabatello and came back later for a 10-6 win over Jimmy Gulibon of Penn State. Gross’ tournament run came to an end one win shy of qualifying for All-America honors in a 10-3 loss to Solomon Chishko of Virginia Tech. Gross ended the tournament with a 3-2 record and finished the season with a 26-14 overall mark. Senior 157-pounder Cody Pack entered Friday without a loss after winning his first two tournament matches, but also came up one victory short of achieving All-America status. In the quarterfinals, the seventhseeded Pack was edged 11-10 by 15th-seeded Chad Walsh of Rider (N.J.). Pack, who was making his fourth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, later dropped a 10-3 decision to Dylan Palacio of Cornell (N.Y.) to end his collegiate career tied for sixth on the SDSU career wins list with Aaron Veskrna (1999-2002) with 114. A four-time national qualifier, Pack finished the season with a 29-5 record. Also advancing to the second day were David Kocer at 174 pounds and 197-pounder Nate Rotert. Both Jackrabbit wrestlers were eliminated with losses during Friday’s first session as Kocer dropped an 8-0 major decision to Pennsylvania’s Casey Kent and Rotert was upended by Kent State’s Kyle Conel, 9-4. Kocer won a pair of consolation matches during competition on Thursday after dropping his opening round match to seventh-seeded Cody Walters of Ohio, 7-3.

Rotert was knocked off by Chattanooga’s Scottie Boykin for the second year in a row at the NCAA Championships, dropping a 7-4 decision in the opening round. The sophomore from Spearfish who was making his second consecutive trip to nationals posted an 11-3 major decision over Rutgers’ Hayden Hrymack in his first wrestleback match. The lone Jackrabbit wrestler to be eliminated on the opening day of competition was 149-pounder Alex Kocer, who opened Thursday by dropping a 7-1 decision to sixth-seeded Jason Tsirtsis of Northwestern (Ill.). The junior from Wagner later fell 9-7 to Oregon State’s Joey Delgado to finish his season with a 24-12 record.

WARREN WILLIAMSON Inducted 1996 Longtime SDSU coach Warren Williamson was one of eight people inducted with the inaugural Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame class in March 1996. Williamson coached the Jackrabbits for 16 seasons — from 1957-68 and from 1970-73. During his tenure, he compiled a 134-74-9 dual record and coached 24 College Division All-Americans and two national champions. His teams also won three North Central Conference titles and placed in the top 10 at the College Division national tournament seven times.

JIM KOCH Inducted 2000 Former Jackrabbit wrestler Jim Koch, the longtime head wrestling coach at WisconsinParkside, was inducted into the Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2000. A Milbank native and 1969 graduate of SDSU, Koch earned runner-up honors at the NCC Championships. Koch accepted the head coaching position at UWParkside in 1970. Over the next 30 years, his wrestlers earned All-America honors 88 times with 10 national champions.

JEFF HOHERTZ Inducted 2000 Hohertz book-ended his collegiate wrestling career by winning national titles at 177 pounds in both 1977 and 1981. A three-time North Central Conference champion, he also earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish as a junior. A native of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Hohertz ended his career with an 88-23-1 record.

RICK JENSEN Inducted 2000 Watertown native Rick Jensen became SDSU’s first four-time North Central Conference champion and was a three-time national finalist. He claimed a national title at 126 pounds as a freshman in 1976, and also finished as runner-up at 134 pounds in 1977 and 142 pounds in 1979. He ended his career with a 128-24 record.

CHAD LAMER Inducted 2004 A four-time All-American, Lamer won three consecutive national titles — the first of which came at 177 pounds in 1994. After repeating as 177pound champion in 1995, Lamer claimed his final Division II title in 1996 at 190. The Colton native also placed eighth at 167 pounds as a freshman. He completed his collegiate career with a pair of North Central Conference titles and a 132-30-2 record. During his senior year he posted a 40-2 record.

PAT DORN Inducted 2016 Dorn, a native of Adrian, Minnesota, won a pair of national titles and earned AllAmerica honors four times during his collegiate career from 1986-89. He claimed the first of his 134-pound titles at the 1987 NCAA Division II Championships, finishing the year with a 29-8 record. He won his lone North Central Conference individual title in 1988 and again put together a championship run at the NCAA Division II Championships. Dorn would go to on to become the first Jackrabbit wrestler in 18 years to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division I Championships with an eighth-place finish later that season.

PAUL KONECHNE Inducted 2016 Paul Konechne earned NCAA Division II All-America honors four times, winning two national titles and completing his career as the alltime leader for victories during his standout career at SDSU from 1998-2001. Konechne dominated the 141-pound weight class over his final two years, posting back-to-back 40-win seasons en route to national titles in 2000 and 2001. A Kimball native, Konechne finished his Jackrabbit career with a 137-30 record.

JASON LILES Inducted 2016 Liles led SDSU wrestling to a decade-long run of success within the NCAA Division II ranks. In each of his first nine seasons at SDSU, Liles’ teams recorded a top-five showing at the NCAA Division II Championships, including runner-up finishes in 1998 and 2001. The 2001 Division II National Coach of the Year, Liles coached Jackrabbit wrestlers to 47 All-America honors and 11 national championships. He also led SDSU to the 1997 NCC title and claimed NWCA D-II National Duals championships in 1998 and 2000.

RYAN RESEL Inducted 2016 Resel wrestled his way to four All-America honors and two national championships during his career at SDSU. He established himself as the top heavyweight in the Division II ranks during the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons, going a combined 73-13 with 36 pins and a 25-1 mark in dual competition. Overall, he finished his career third on the SDSU wins chart with a 122-27 record and tied the school record with 63 pins.
