¿Cómo os empezó a interesar a cada uno de vosotros la música? // How did each of you become interested in music? Juan: En mi caso la música era una parte tan cotidiana de la vida familiar que nunca tuve que hacer el esfuerzo para acercarme, simplemente la música formaba parte como las comidas o las cosas mas triviales de una familia. In my case, music was such an everyday part of my life that I never had to make the effort to get close to it. It was simply part of my life, like lunch or even more trivial family things. Andrés: En mi casa comencé a jugar desde muy pequeño con un teclado de juguete que mi padre (músico amateur) había comprado, y a los 11 años comencé a estudiar con un profesor del barrio. In my case, when I was very little I would play a toy keyboard that my father (an amateur musician) had purchased and when I was eleven, I started learning with a neighborhood music teacher. ¿Cuáles son vuestras influencias musicales? // Who are your musical influences? Juan: Muchas y cambiantes, siempre siento que al nombrar algunos siempre doy una visión muy parcial de la cosa. Lo que si me gustaría decir en todo caso es que el ámbito de las guitarreadas fue determinante en mi manera de sentir y pensar la música. Lots and always changing, I always feel that by naming some, I always give a very partial vision of the whole thing. What I would say is that in any case, the guitar played a major part in the way I feel and think about music. Andrés: Son tantas que sería injusto nombrar algunas. Pero te podría nombrar las primeras impresiones que fueron muy fuertes cuando las descubrí a los 12 y 13 años : Luis Alberto Spinetta, Pat Metheny, Egberto Gismonti y dentro de la música orquestal a Igor Stravinski. There are so many that it would be unfair to name a few. But I can name the first impressions that hit me when I discovered them at the age of 12 and 13: Luis Alberto Spinetta, Pat Metheny, Egberto Gismonti and within classical music, Igor Stravinsky. ¿Por qué decidisteis formar el grupo? ¿Y por qué Aca Seca? // Why did you decide to start a band? And why the name Aca Seca? Andrés: El grupo surgió como consecuencia de una amistad y una hermandad muy fuerte entre nosotros, además de una gran afinidad y admiración mutua. Éramos compañeros en la Universidad de Bellas Artes de La Plata, y en un recital de estudiantes nos encontramos en un escenario casi sin darnos cuenta. Eso fué en 1998 y desde ahí comenzó muy lentamente un proceso de encuentros y ensayos que después se consolidó con los discos y los conciertos que han sido cada vez mas numerosos y frecuentes.
The band started as a result of very strong friendship and fraternity between us, as well as because of a mutual affinity and admiration. We were classmates at the Fine Arts University of La Plata (Argentina), and during a student recital, we found each other on a stage without even realizing it. That was in 1998 and a very slow process of encounters and rehearsals started from then on, and after that it was all consolidated with the albums and the concerts, which have been growing ever since. Aca es una palabra de origen quechua (lengua originaria de la cultura Inca) que se usa para designar a los excrementos, pero sólo se utiliza particularmente en el noroeste argentino (Juan es tucumano) y surgió como una broma. Con el tiempo nos gustó mas la sonoridad del nombre que su significado literal. Por otro lado Aca en Buenos Aires y La Plata (donde se formó el grupo) no se usa para nada y mucha gente aquí no sabe lo que realmente significa. Aca is a Quechuan word (the language of the Inca) which was used to point out excrements, but it’s only used in the Northeast Argentina (Juan is from the Tucumán Province) and it started as a joke. As time passed, we liked the sound of the name more than its literal meaning. Also, “Aca” isn’t used at all in Buenos Aires and La Plata (where the group was formed) so a lot of people don’t know what it means.
