Martin Rudd, County Scout Jubilee Co-ordinator and event organiser commented “it was just a great, happy time for all involved in Hampshire Scouting. The young people and leaders were terrific and rain did not stop play! We have received so many really positive comments about this celebration from the general public who saw us parade through Winchester, and from our invited guests including the Lord Lieutenant and her Deputies, local Hampshire Mayors and those involved with Scouting. We paraded nearly one thousand Scouts and leaders through Winchester and were joined by over 200 guests and parents in the Cathedral, where we had a great welcome from the Dean of Winchester Cathedral, The Very Red. James Atwell and where the new Bishop of Winchester, The Right Reverend. Tim Dakin gave a thoroughly inspiring talk to our young people. This event again showcased Hampshire Scouting at its very best.

Just a short note to thank you very much for inviting Christine and me to your Diamond Jubilee Service on Friday. We thoroughly enjoyed the event and are very grateful to you for including us. I thought the parade beforehand, or should I say pageant, was great and I was stunned by the turnout. You did say you would fill the Cathedral and you were as good as your word! I thought the readers in the service were absolutely excellent and a real credit to the Scouts. Finally I thought the talk by the Bishop was spot on and perfect for his young audience. All in all a great way to celebrate the Jubilee. Well done and thanks. Nigel Atkinson
