FRANCISCO VALIÑAS Capitán de Navío (R) Licenciado en Sistemas Navales Uruguay RESUMEN La Primera Guerra Mundial presentó dos armas hasta ese momento desconocidas: el avión y el submarino, y a partir de ellas el campo de batalla se hizo tridimensional. Cada uno de esos sistemas de armas impuso sus reglas de empleo propias, no siempre comprendidas desde el principio, pero que terminaron siendo aceptadas como realidades que no tendrían retroceso. Las primeras campañas submarinas de Alemania, ocurridas en setiembre de 1914, darían las primeras pautas de las nuevas normas de la guerra en el mar. SUMMARY The First World War presented two weapons unknown at that moment: the airplane and the submarine, and from them the battle field became three-dimensional. Each one of those weapon systems imposed their own rules of angagement, not always understood from the beginning, but being accepted at the end as realities that would not have setback. The first submarine campaigns of Germany, happened in September of 1914, would give the first glimpses of the sea war new norms. KEY WORDS First World War, Naval War.
