From The Editor's Pen Hello, His Favor Readers!

It's 2019! If you are like me, you are glad to see it! So many things have happened in 2018, that totally shook not just the nation but the world! I have never heard about so many school shootings. More and more people are speaking up about sexual violence and the nations are going at it as we speak. 2018, has truly brought the light the need for mental health as we heard about and maybe knew of people even in the body of Christ committing suicide or attempting. Even, with all that is going on in media, some of our personal lives took some hits. Family members did not make it to see 2019 and some people did not give gi ts during Christmas due to layo fs from their jobs. As for me, even with the excitement of getting the first issue of 2019 together, I had times of anger, confusion, loss and even moments I felt I was not good enough. 2018, truly showed me... ME! I have been hurt a lot in my life from di ferent experiences, but 2018, took me to a place I never thought I would go through. But, I did. Typing this letter to you is actually a type of therapy for me. As I think back over, I realized I complained a lot because I felt I did not deserve the "hell" I was being put through. However, this very moment, I can honestly say, It was for my good. Today, I sit excited about what God is about to do in the lives of not just myself but so many others. I embrace the lessons learned in 2018, because I no longer fear what 2019 is going to bring.

So, yes, 2018, might not have been your best year, but take everything from it and use it to stay focused. You have to! If you need to forgive... do it! If you need to get your finances straight... do it! If you need to pray more... do it! Whatever you need to do to move forward this year... DO IT! We need you to step out of your comfort zone and allow God to use you as he has been longing to do. ~Sheneè Woodson, Visionary/Editor In Chief

Proverbs 31: 29

17

I’m Elisa Rodero, owner and artist at Hennamorphosis, a henna body art business based in Frederick, Maryland. I provide custom, freehand body art using all-natural henna paste I make in my own kitchen. Why are you in your industry

I fell in love with henna after taking a class about the ancient body art at the Smithsonian. There is something so magical about a little shrub that bridges cultures and faiths and connects individuals in a gentle, nurturing way, through an art form that goes back centuries. Putting henna on someone’s skin bestows protection and blessing; it’s a kind of laying-on of hands. When I sit down to do a henna design on someone, I have the opportunity to connect with that person individually, solely, for a brief moment in a hectic day. We both slow down for a bit. The stain—the color of which changes subtly each day for one to two weeks before fading—can remind someone of that moment of connection and self-care. It makes people smile. It’s a beautiful thing. What are common reasons for your work

In this country, we most commonly associate henna with Indian weddings. But henna body art is used in various types of ritual, celebration, rites of passage, and ceremony around the world. It’s found traditionally in more than 60 countries and across six different faiths. Some designs incorporate sacred symbols or images from those faiths, some include symbols or images that are meaningful to only the wearer, and some designs are just for beautification. Some people get henna to test out a tattoo idea, and others just want a little self-care. It can be used for something as momentous as getting married or having a baby, or as mundane as a Tuesday. What are common stigmas about your art

The first is that henna can cause allergic reactions. In fact, natural henna has a very low allergic response rate (with the exception of people with G6PD deficiency). People who have had reactions to “henna” almost always have had it applied from what natural henna artists describe as “chemical cones”—that is, cones that contain very little natural henna, if any. These contain preservatives such as turpentine and gasoline, at best, and PPD, a hair dye derived from coal tar, at worst. PPD is what is commonly known as “black henna,” the stuff you would typically see along the boardwalk at beach resorts because it gives an instant, black stain. It is carcinogenic and causes severe organ damage, and can cause chemical burns on the skin, with permanent scarring. Natural henna uses only leaves from the henna plant, sifted into powder; a liquid such as water, lemon juice, or tea, some sort of sugar; and some essential oils. Natural henna stains takes two to four days to develop completely, and range from bright orange through a deep rust brown over the duration of the stain, usually one to two weeks. Another major stigma currently impacting henna artists around the world is the concept that henna is an art form for Indian or South Asian people only. In the U.S., we most commonly associate henna use with the Indian culture, but in fact it is used worldwide to create beautiful body art and dye hair. It is a global art form and, like any other artistic medium, belongs to everyone. How does your art impact the world

I firmly believe all art impacts the world. The act of creating art introduces a slice of someone’s heart and soul to the outside. Art can be used to foster serenity or to foment revolution. For me, henna is a meditation—a calm space in a world that can get overwhelming. But as I mentioned above, it is also a way to connect with another person, to bestow blessing and protection and strength. Then, as they face challenges throughout their day, they can look at their henna design and be reminded that they are cared for, beautiful, strong, and blessed. It impacts the individual—and individuals are the ones who change the world. (Article by: Kyonna Brown) #

Church and Pornography A Bad Mix

* There are more Christian outlets today than ever before. There are more Christian books available now than ever in history. Megachurches are popping up all over the United States. The Word of God is being taught e fectively and the Spirit of the Lord is moving in church services in miraculous ways. Praise the Lord! If all of this is going on, why oh why is pornography on the rise in the church? Week a ter week we hear sermons about faith, finances, healing, family — and did I mention finances? However, very rarely if at all do we hear about how huge a role pornography plays in today’s church. So many times a ter praising God, shouting in church, paying your o fering, hearing the Word and fellowshipping a terward many Christians late that night complete their Sunday experience by watching pornography online. I remember being about 14 years old at a family event in Brooklyn when I had my first encounter with pornography. My uncle said he wanted to share something with a few of the guys and took us in a room and showed us a very popular X-rated movie at the time. Little did I know at the time how much that tape would impact my life. Ever since that day, it became an addiction for me. I am totally convinced that there are demonic spirits linked to pornography and the desire not just to a fect the individual but their spouse and children as well. I say, spouse, because pornography is just not viewed by males as we thought but the number of females who view it has increased dramatically as well. I speak to several males and females and they express the daily struggle they fight to gain victory over their desire to watch pornography. Despite the numerous Christian outlets we have today I believe one of the reasons why pornography has increased is because of access. When my uncle showed me that movie back then it was on VHS tape. Generally to obtain those movies you had to go to a video store, incognito as not to be recognized by your fellow saints. Then you had to go into a back area with a fake curtain to get your movie. Sneak out to the register and hope the clerk had no problem finding your movie. Occasionally they had to call across the counter to see if they had your movie... “Hey Joe, do you have Debbie Does Texas“ over there. Being discreet was top priority. Then a ter you finally made it home, keeping that tape hid became another issue. So the enemy knew that Christians wanted to watch pornography but was wary of being discovered, so the next step of pornography was having cable companies provide it on demand. That solved the issue of going outside and being discovered, now they could please their lesh from the privacy of their own home. Problem solved, right? No. When that bill came in the following month and it had charges of $11.99 per movie that was a huge problem. You have to hide the bill from your spouse and spend extra money on the bill. So this was another hurdle that had to be cleared. So finally with all of this technology we have, the next step of pornography was to have it to be FREE online on any handheld device. Whether it is on an iPhone, Android, iPad, tablet, etc., it is accessible to anyone, at any time free of charge. This now allows the child of God to watch all the pornography they want, without fear of being detected or embarrassed by going outside or having to pay for it. This is why it is on the rise to the delightful of Satan. He has removed all of the obstacles that would hinder a Christian from viewing. This is killing the church. And it is a silent killer because most people will tell their close Christians friends about a health issues, or a financial issue, maybe even a marriage issue, but rarely will anyone tell anybody about a pornography issue. How can I tell you about that, I am supposed to be able to handle that, I am supposed to be able to stand on the Word and walk in victory over that easily. This is killing Pastors, Elders, Choir members, ushers, and even First Ladies. I am not saying everyone is watching it, of course not but there is a large number of members as well as leaders who struggle daily with this. I read that a hotel reported that when a Christian conference is being held the viewing of pornography goes up as compared to other conferences. How do we stop? I know some people, adults, mature Christians who are hesitant to be alone at home because they know the temptation is very strong for them to view it. We have to pray but do much more than pray. What I have noticed is that this is a daily battle that must be fought aggressively and purposely. You can’t let your guard down for one second. If the enemy sees you are trying to avoid the hardcore porn he will try to sneak in with so tcore porn to enter your mind and defense like the Trojan Horse. You may say “well this isn’t hardcore, I don’t watch hardcore porn, I only watch so t porn. A person that has issues with alcohol can’t have one sip, because it may take them back down that road, the same thing with sexual shows. Yeah, but those are good shows but are they worth that spirit dwelling in your home and attacking your family, no, not worth it. Also try to have a very mature friend who you can confide in. The enemy wants you to keep this as quiet as possible. He wants you to fight it silently and to be ashamed. Once you break the silence and have a true saint who you can confide in, that sheds some light on the situation. This is a battle we have to win because some people have this issue for years, and years and passes it on to generations, we have to say this curse stops here, right now! So be vigilant, if you slip up, don’t quit. Don’t let it keep you down, remember you only lose if you stay down. God welcomes you back but

PK He so wants you to resist to the end and say enough is enough and the time wasted on watching pornography can now being invested in 23 bringing the dream to pass and impact! Kersey www.thatsuitsyou.org

Wade Menendez

Wade Menendez is a successful Master Barber whom resides in Maryland, also known as the DMV area. Wade started out cutting his own hair at 12 years old. At the time, he wasn’t thinking about making barbering a career. It wasn't un l a er working in retail and then with his father as a painter in an apartment complex, Wade decided to go to barbering school. He was blessed with the opportunity to a end school for free Through Anne Arundel County Workforce Development Program. While a ending school, Wade’s gi , begin making room for him early on. It was while he was a ending school that he was introduced to Recording Ar st, Lil’ Mo, and begin cu ng her hair. Before finishing school, she also encouraged him to began marke ng himself. At that me, he didn’t see any barbers with a website. As he was s ll in the process of comple ng school, he was s ll ahead of the marke ng and branding game. Some mes he was given the opportunity to go to different places and that’s when he would pass out the flyers a er events. Wade completed barbering school in 2004 and started working in a few barbershops for a few years and then opened his first barbershop “The W Hair Lo ” located in Glen Burnie, Maryland in 2011; then opened his second loca on in Hya sville, Maryland in 2014. By having a unique cu ng style he started ge ng calls from celebri es. Wade was also given the opportunity to be the Barber for BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel show for a few years, as well as Celebra on of Gospel, Essence the Essence Fes val and the Stellar Awards just to name a few.

He’s been blessed to cut so many celebrity ar st, execu ves and athlete’s and takes no glory for these opportuni es. Wade knows that God has been the one that’s blessed him with this gi to cut and meet the people he’s met on his journey. Wade said this just isn’t about cu ng for him but it’s about changing people’s lives and helping boost confidence levels, get dates and obtain employment. Wade has mastered his cu ng skills but wanted to take it to another level. So one day he and a former natural hair stylist from his shop were talking about. Ways to help clients who suffer with hair loss and aren’t ready to get rid of their hair. Some of the clients are young and some are older. He said not everyone is comfortable

"

walking around with a bald head or looks good with one. Wade knew it was something that could be done but wasn’t sure how to go about doing it. So they begin talking about things that could work so they played around with a few things, that caused wade to research, crea ng something for men and women who suffer with hair loss. He found some people that were doing it already but they weren’t willing to share how they do it or where they were trained in what is called Cranial Hair Prosthesis or Hair Unit, not Man Weave. Unfortunately we live in a compe ve society and if people feel threatened by you. They will do everything to stop you or not help you get to the next level. So he con nued his search trying find someone and he finally found one of the classes and became a cer fied hair loss specialist for men suffering with thinning hair, balding and alopecia. This technique was already being done and accepted in the Caucasian community but not in the African American Community. Wade has tapped into this new Hair Unit trend or Cranial Prosthesis that has created a major internet and news buzz across the na on. Wade has clients that fly in from all over the world to have the Hair Units installed by him. He’s had clients that have flown in from Canada, Alaska, Europe, all over the US, and St. Lucia. They will come in and fly right back home.

When you look good you feel better about yourself

#

I know you are probably wandering how long do the units last? It varies, so he has some units that can last anywhere from 2 weeks, 1-2 months, 2-4 months and 4-5 months depending on what you get. Not only did Wade become a licensed Hair Prosthesis Specialist, he wanted to share the knowledge that he received so he also started teaching classes to other stylists and barbers who wanted to learn like he did. People fly from all over the world for his classes so they can learn this amazing life changing technique. Even in this, he receives both nega ve and posi ve feedback but he doesn’t allow that to interfere. This is something he’s passionate about and it’s changing lives. Not only is Wade a barber but he’s also started his own 501 c3 nonprofit organiza on “The Wade H Menendez Founda on” that provides scholarships and homeless makeovers. His very first homeless makeover was a few years ago in Las Vegas and his second homeless makeover was in Washington DC this year 2018. At both events meals, clothing, showers and a night’s stay was provided for them. Wade’s founda on also host’s Back to School drives for youth and has partnerships with shelters in the Washington DC area and provides services and gi s to shelters. Also once per month Wade goes to a Middle School in Anne Arundel County and he provides free haircuts for youth as an incen ve for reading books. He was inspired to start the founda on because he wanted to do more in the community as a result of him being blessed, he in turn wanted to be a blessing to others and make a way for others to par cipate and help as well. Not many know this but Wade is also the organist at the church where his mom is the pastor and he sings as well. I’m sure you are reading this saying what doesn’t he do…. Along with all of this hard work comes a me when rest is needed so he makes sure once per month a vaca on is taken in order to regroup and wind down and when he does. God always manages to find a way of reigni ng his passion all over again. Yes somethings get overwhelming but the most challenging things he has experienced was seeing his mother ba le and go through stage four cancer, then unexpectedly losing his father and shortly a er the passing of his father he went through a divorce. Wade said with all of these events happening so close together, things started become overwhelming for him. So he decided to go through counseling, and going to counseling was the best thing he could’ve ever done. It helped him cope with things much be er than if he wouldn’t have gone. He said if it wasn’t most of for God being in his life, his family and going to counseling. He would’ve lost his mind. Wade wants to share with anyone going through any challenges and wan ng to give up. Please seek counsel, it’s okay to go see a counselor but it’s not ok to deal with life’s challenges alone and not go. Wade really believes that God and his support system saved his life. Always make sure that you keep God first and everything else will fall in line.

Only the Good Die Young?

“Only the good die young” should rub every believer the wrong way! This phrase is sung about, passed to next generations, and worst of all, believed! “Only the good die young” is a lie and ignorant excuse to explain away the reality of the two spiritual powers at work in this world. This phrase needs to be exposed for its lack of spiritual integrity.

Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time? Ecclesiastes 7:17 God never wants us to die before our time! The good don’t die young! What this means is God has given all of us a certain amount of time to steward. We can be good stewards or bad but, in the end, how long we live is something we believe for. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour: I Peter 5:8 All believers have a personal adversary, called the devil, and is walking about seeking whom he may devour. Hebrews 2:14 goes deeper, revealing the devil’s power of death. The devil desires death before our time.

Chance, luck, bad circumstances, only the good die young, has nothing to do with it. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil Hebrews 2:14 Life and death come from two spiritual sources. Life is of God and death is of the devil. As we grow spiritually, we should develop spiritual discernment of the powers at work in this world. The things that are revealed to us are ours (Deuteronomy 29:29) but not all energized power is revealed but will be in the next world to come (I Timothy 5:24). This means, not in every situation are you going to know why someone died. Only God knows the heart. The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel. Psalm 128:5,6 God’s desire is that we live long and see our children’s children. This is a promise of God. All promises of God must be believed to be received. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that God is a rewarder to them that diligently seek Him. It’s the goodness of God that inspires a close relationship with God. Also, believing without works is dead (James 2: 17). The days of our years are threescore years and ten (70); and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years (80) yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut o f, and we ly away. Psalm 90:10 “Reason of strength,” is first a spiritual condition to fulfill for long life, and secondarily, a physical condition. However, both are critical to life span, and both are worked for. If God is going to be a spiritual strength in your life, then your daily relationship with Him must be a priority. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Proverbs 3:1,2 The human body is holy, wonderfully made, and designed to a degree to heal itself, but at the same time is corruptible, and because of the original sin, dies. Diet, exercise, and taking good care of our bodies as we age, is a physical condition to fulfill to inherit the promise of long life. Moses set the bar high and took great care of his physical body. And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. Deuteronomy 34:7 Also, God’s grace and mercy goes a long way! None of us is perfect, and we need God’s ways to escape (I Corinthians 10:13) the power of death: you must believe, recognize it, and act. Biblical examples to learn from: Lot’s wife did not listen to the Angel’s direction; Uriah needed to out believe David when being sent into battle; Judas allowed guilt to supersede the forgiveness given to him; Stephen did not heed God’s revelation to escape. “Only the good die young” is a lie! The truth is, there are two spiritual powers at work in this world. If you have holes in your believing, spiritually or physically, the door to die young is open. In some cases, we will not know until the world to come why someone died. The devil is a respecter of persons, has the power of death, and is the source of long life for some (Ecclesiastes 8:12). However, God is no respecter of Rich Wessenberg is the Author of Top Selling book “Treasures persons and the other source of long life. God can always go above His Word and will of the Believing Heart” which shows how to build a strong always make a way to escape. It’s up to us to make the most of His Word, His revelation, believing heart, is available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble; or what others are telling us (many times God’s voice is in those closest in our lives when Follow Rich on Twitter @richwessenberg we are not listening) to not die before our time.

You know more o ten than I’d like, I witness moments where Christians or religious leaders openly criticize, humiliate and even degrade others while hiding behind the Word of God in an e fort to compel people to salvation. And it’s really shameful because Jesus never had to minister to the lost in such an overly aggressive, accusatory and sometimes even hypocritical fashion. Instead, He lead through love. Love comes in many forms including chastisement but when considering the most ideal way to lead and in luence by the example of Christ, we must look at stories like the one found in the 5th chapter of Luke where Jesus was scolded for eating and fellowshipping with a tax collector by the name of Levi along with other tax collectors and sinners. For clarity, tax collectors were considered traitors who collaborated with Roman authorities at the expense of their own people. The sinners were in a special class by themselves. These people were deliberately and persistently breaking the law. Prostitutes were also included in this group as they sold themselves to a life of sin in deliberate disregard for the law of God. Perhaps now it is easier to understand the surprise and disgust for some when they witnessed the savior of the World, King of kings, Son of God, Jesus the Christ, sitting and fellowshipping with tax collectors and other sinners. As followers of righteousness, it can be easy to believe that you should never comingle with others that are not like you. However, this is a secular practice and belief that does not belong to the people of God. Separation, elitism, classism, racism even nationalism and more should never be our response. When Jesus was asked why He would ever consider sitting among their kind, he responded, “It’s not the healthy that needs a doctor but the sick. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” On another occasion in the book of Matthew, Jesus told some religious leaders in Jerusalem “tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the Kingdom of God before you!” How could that be the case? The answer lies in the divine approach of Christ as Jesus, being Spirit-led, always ministered through love. Love embraces di ferences in order to create relationships. Those relationships yield the opportunity for in luence. Thus, when you learn to love about others, others will love to learn about you. And once engaged in a relationship that’s built on love, there’s an opportunity to impart in luence because they’ll want to understand the di ferences that make you so special. That’s why Jesus was so impactful in his ministry. He exuded such a potent, unconditional and unequivocal type of love to everyone he met that those who experienced him wanted to know more which granted countless opportunities to be taught, reached and even converted to a life that would please the lover of their souls. I’m not saying to hide your light of truth, nor am I saying you should accept or encourage lifestyles that are against your beliefs. What I am saying is that the redemptive and encompassing love of God can cover and compel anyone, therefore God’s approach through love should always be our answer. And in case you’re not sure how to take the first step, the 4th chapter of Luke gives us the secret which was that Christ was filled with the Holy Spirit first and that Spirit is what will help you also lead others in and through love forever. Be blessed~ 29

Music & Feelings I think it has based on the lyrics and content in the music that aims to provoke a certain emotion, emotion in music changes not regardless of what color, age and background you're from, when the aim is to make someone happy, they will be happy because emotion don't choose, also the sounds we fused together of contemporary, rock and yet tradition for older people, the songs are able to also break forth international because of the one sound that God has released on the church globally, hence people are also able to receive it, also South Africa is a 11 speaking language country, one of the song thus our true closeness to the language also plays a role

FASHION & THE ARTIST My sense of artist is very much in my style in what am I comfortable wear, this can be sneakers in a formal dress, as opposed to latest trends, as those fade away, I've learned quickly from having teenagers :-), my style is eclectic, with a mix of vintage and couture in some pieces, I don't always believe style involves breaking the bank, I dress myself, i can take a 20 dollar second item and bring it into a design wear and achieve the look I want, I do follow trends a lot both local and international, I also believe in our local designers with the African feel, but most of the time I refuse to confirm with what seems to be normal to others, I create my own paths. How you wear yourself for lack of a better word, people get a sense of who you are, as author/musician and being in corporate I always have to strike a balance, as I may have a board meeting on the day, but have to attend a fashion event after work, thus the looks have to balance, I always have fun in accessories alot whether sunglasses, hats earrings, bags and the hair, to bring that.

Social Media & Consistency

It is because social media is a very powerful tool which is immediate at the tips of anyone's fingers, you can simply connect with the world in just few characters or in a picture form, also traditional channels are very expensive i.e. tv and billboards, for individuals and independent people, thus social media allows people who are very serious about the messages they want to convey, to simply do that to the people they want to reach, thus building communities, today we are able to pray together at different times because people can go live in the world and declare the word of God, people are able to expose a bit of their personal lives so that people can know who they really are without assumptions but mostly powerfully people can protect their own reputations against malicious acts by simply rectifying what has been said, social media is very powerful I believe and those that know what its for in the church, it will certainly yield the results of pushing the messages through.

Humility & Acheivements I am sooo super excited at what God continues to do. I am in celebration mode as we had what we consider our Grammys for Gospel artist ( picture The Doves). I won 2 out of 3 categories I was nominated in, at the SABC 11th Crown Gospel Awards for The Best NewComer and Best Community Outreach Artist. God Almighty is doing wonderful things! I am grateful

The ministry the Lord has me doing is several things. I am a teacher as well as A Record Producer and Songwriter. I am unique because no one can beat me at being me. I feel it is important to share my testimony with others because in the book of Revelation 12:11 it says: And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony! It’s important to share your testimony with others. *We all have one *Some people would rather see a bible than read one! We serve a real God who deals with real life issues. We remember the power of God who keeps us through it all.

After teaching full time for 10 plus years, the Lord was dealing with me to come out of the classroom and do the ministry of music. I had a gift of songwriting since I was 8 years old and I love to sing! Well it was time. I got comfortable with my job and pay raise (it was the highest I had ever made in my teaching career) and the Lord wouldn’t let it go! Every day driving to work he gave me Yolanda Adams song. “You Know That I Know”. At least that’s version he gave me (smile). He made my job “So uncomfortable” that I was ready to go!! That was 4 years ago! You cannot be a transforming individual in a non-transforming environment. When Jesus says move, it’s time to go! He’s smarter than we are! He knows when it’s time and where he wants to use the gifts he gave us. When it comes to singing, I want the audience to hopefully feel uplifted after experiencing my singing gift! “Get Excited” we are going on a journey cause “It’s Time” #

The Make Up Artist The Psalmist I actually never had a desire to be a makeup artist. The opportunity arose one After a worship experience, I would like people to feel/be day as I was shopping at MAC, they offered me a position, and being the changed. Every time you come into the presence of God, you makeup lover I am... I took it! Then is when a desire to actually DO makeup was should be in a posture of expectation. A new encounter, a birthed. I fell in love with helping people and making people feel good about new outlook, a breakthrough. God is a WONDER. We get so themselves. It was like a ministry moment that God had set up. He’s so clever. caught up sometimes in the music and the word that we Now, here I am 4 years later, with my own makeup artist business! forget that God will reveal himself, BY Himself. So I’m always waiting to see what God is going to do in a time of worship. I’m never let down! The Minister Church is a learning ground and a place to fellowship with like minded Favor: One definition says it’s an act of kindness beyond what is due Favor: believers for me. I have met some of the most amazing people and learned or usual. God always goes beyond for His children, even when we about God in ways I could never on my own if it wasn’t for the assemblies I’ve don’t deserve it. Being His child you get a whole bunch of benefits, been a part of in my lifetime. The church has prepared me for OUTSIDE of the including grace and favor. He has a way of working things out that walls of it. That’s where ministry really is. It has taught me prayer, the you didn’t necessarily see in YOUR favor, but because He loves us so importance of giving, discipleship and helped me discover my spiritual gifts! much and calls us His own, He saw it in His. He’s just that good!

"You are so loved by God, and I am praying right now that you would continue to fall deeper in love with Him, draw closer to Him, and fully live in who He has created you to be. You were created with a purpose that is only really discovered when you seek Jesus. I hope you have an absolutely incredible Christmas and take intentional time out of the crazy holiday season to spend time with the One in whom this season is all about."

Rachel Zello Hello His Favor! Happy New Year! Lately, I’ve been staying extremely busy with music. I am currently in the process of recording my first fulllength album, in which “Set Me Free” is the debut single off of. Worship Leader As a worship leader, worship in a church setting, should honestly be an overflow of the worship that has been happening throughout the week. If my heart is in the right place and I am genuinely worshiping the Lord and encouraging others to join me in worship, then that is a win. My prayer is that others would not just feel something during worship, but also grow in understanding of who Jesus is, and the awesome power that comes when we join in unity with all of creation and worship our Creator and Savior. The ultimate goal after a worship experience, is that people would experience Jesus, leave knowing Him more, feel closer to Him, and that the experience would not be a one-time thing, but a constant positioning of the heart.

Social Media There is an online community of people from all over the world who God has placed in my life to speak truth and encouragement to, and people who also encouragement me and I can connect to, via social media. People who have never heard my music come across my social media pages, specifically Instagram, maybe because they were drawn to my branding or a caption that caught their attention, but then they listen to the music and hear the message of Jesus and become fans, and friends who support my ministry. Social media has been one of the biggest platforms God has used in my ministry to share His very relevant truth, love, and purpose for people across the nations, who go through everyday life like me.

Grammy Nomination Honestly, when I got the call that I had been considered for a Grammy, I thought, “only God.” The caliber of my music being produced is top of the line quality, with an extremely professional producer, and musicians who have played for many other famous, Grammy award winning artists. However, as a vocalist and writer, who hasn’t been doing this for very long at all, I do not have words for how honored and humbled I am to even have been considered for a Grammy among so many incredibly talented artists—people who have been doing this for years and who are astonishingly gifted. The only logical response I have is, “only God.” My music revolves around Him, and I honestly believe that is the reason He brought my music in front of professionals in the industry. God gets all of the glory, and I know that is why He blessed me, and all of the amazing people involved in building my music ministry with the consideration for such an incredible award. Ministry I am a representative of my family’s ministry called, Jewels 4 God International. We go overseas and train men and women who have been rescued from human- trafficking and drug addiction, how to make hand-crafted jewelry, so that they can have a jobskill to help support themselves once they leave the rehab program. Every year over the past four years, at Christmas time, we go to a home in Pune, India and spend Christmas and New Years with children who have been rescued from the horrors of the brothels. We have trained some of the mothers who have been rescued out of prostitution, who are now staff at this children’s’ home. There are now 27 children who live there. They are given food, shelter, medical care, and are provided with an English speaking/private education where they are taught about Jesus. However, the home that they are in is not permanent. As a result, our dear friends who run the ministry have had to turn away hundreds of children from being rescued, because they do not have room for another child and cannot financially support them. Land right outside the city has been donated to them, and now they just need the finances to build a large home of their own on the property. Every merch sale, sales from my music, and every donation given through http:// www.jewels4god.org/givepartner.html , goes directly back into rescuing children from human trafficking, so that they may experience a full life worth living.

God's Favor To me, favor means that God is looking at me with loving kindness, and smiling because He is pleased with me, providing and protecting me even at times when I don’t realize it. I think of an intimate relationship with an all-powerful, all-knowing God, a relationship I don’t deserve to have. There are many biblical examples of God’s favor with people. In Joseph’s life, God favored him by allowing him to be successful in everything he did, because Joseph placed God first (1 Sam 18:14). David had a heart a ter God and was faithful and loving, therefore he received favor from God and man (Prov 3:3-4). God even anointed King Saul before David was King and poured out His favor over Saul when he was humble and obediently glorifying God, but as soon as Saul became prideful and turned away from God, God removed that favor. The greatest favor/act of undeserved kindness ever given was when God sent His only son, Jesus to take our place of death on the cross, knowing that not everyone would accept or want this free gi t of favor of salvation. Favor is God’s presence in our lives. 39

Where has the time gone? It is already 2019 and so many things have happened! I couldn’t have called any of this happening in my life. In fact, I never thought I was good enough to sing. Largely because I never heard anyone that sounded like me, but what I hated most about my voice was actually what set me a part and made me distinctive. While I’m grateful for the success that I’ve had, my heart still beats fast every time I hear my song on the radio and I’m always still extremely blown away and humbled when people recognize me. All of it still feels like a dream, but I’m extremely grateful! CHURCH TODAY

I feel like the church is present, but I always feel that more can be done. What I think is most important is that

we hold true to the message of Jesus Christ, but be more creative with our approach to reach a broader range of

people. What I have seen and heard from people that I know is that they’ve lost interest in the church because of a lack of relevance and the notion that the church won’t accept them as they are. However, the church is a

hospital for the sick not a country club for the qualified. It is important that we be transparent that ALL of us are in need of a savior and that savior is Jesus Christ.

SOCIAL MEDIA PROS & CONS

Social media can be such a blessing and a great tool for us to reach people, but like Spider-Man said: “with great power

comes great responsibility.” So it’s important when you have a platform to be mindful about what you post. I feel it’s also

important to have a balance between social media and your real life. I use social media to connect with supporters, but I

still value more of a face to face-hands on approach. I’ll prefer a real conversation anyday.

Brown "Worship is our lifestyle and language to God.

It’s our connection, it’s our portal. Our connection is strengthened in the worship that we live and that we sing, but it’s so much more than a song. Worship is a way of life, and the more consistently that you worship, the stronger your connection to God will be. MUSICAL INFLUENCES

I'm influenced by a number of people!

Maurette Brown-Clark changed my life when she gave me the opportunity to see artistry from behind the scenes. However, there are a number of artists in the gospel genre whose style, writing, and overall presentation lend to

who I am as an artist today. I wouldn’t be who I am without the influences of Richard Smallwood, The Hawkins, The Clark Sisters, Donald Lawrence, Kirk Franklin and more.

OTHER DESIRES

Those who know me know that I have always had a love for Disney, broadway and musical theater.

Having studied classical music in school and directed a number of stage plays it’s my goal in life to take my God given talents to some broader audiences

within that world. Don’t be surprised if u see me in concert at a church on

Sunday and catch me backstage conducting the symphony on Monday. I’ve

always felt that if God put the creativity inside of me that he intends for me to use it in and outside of the church.

"Oddly enough I still can’t sing "Worth" without crying, it’s been 3

years and there’s not a concert that goes by that I don’t sing it. Every time the intro begins it feels like the first time all over again

First of all, thank you again HIS FAVOR MAGAZINE (HFM) for this interview. We believe God is the author of the skies, and wants to meet each of us, each day right where we are, even in the mess of our world today. I pray that you get a chance to listen to our new single “Lord of All” and that this song will minister to you and serve as a blessing to your life and your readers. We are praying a prayer of blessing and favor on your life! HFM: How would you describe the sound of “Lord of All" to your audience?

“Lord of All” was prayerfully written and recorded in a state of worship, and I ultimately hope the song is pleasing to God and brings people into His presence. My wife, Danielle, sings on the track, and we really love the song, which is truly a song of gratitude to Jesus. We produced this version of the song with the prayer and intention of appealing to both Christian radio, as well as church worshipers. Our heart is for churches around the globe to be able to use this song in their worship services, and therefore “Lord of All” will be made available on Multi-tracks. We will also have a guitar tutorial video online as well as a song video and a lyric video that was made available on the release date, October 26th. Basically, anyone and everyone can enjoy this song or worship with the song!

"Favor is undeserved blessings from God. Every day and every breath is actually an expression of favor. I believe it brings God joy to show great favor to His people. And it’s easy for him because He loves us! I think our own sinful nature is probably the biggest roadblock for favor at times. I pray that every person reading this would feel a touch of God’s wonderful favor today"

HFM: Tell us your personal story behind your latest single and the takeaway message. How does it compare to the upcoming album?

My personal story is a story of redemption. God taking a mess and making it a message of hope for others. When I was far from God, I used to wonder why He would accept someone living so distant from him. But God never gives up on us. “Lord of All” is an expression of praise based on my experience of encountering an “all welcoming” God who loves us right where we are. Even in our mess. It was a really comforting and life-changing realization to understand and now to put into words through this new song.

HFM: What importance has the Church held in your life? How can we encourage people to continually press in locally through the Church? Great question!. In Hebrews 10:25 God encourages us to “not give up meeting together, as some have a habit of doing…”. My salvation may have never happened if there was not a local church waiting for me with open arms. It seems that we will all need help at some point on our journey. The local church can li t us up when we’re hurting, sharpen us, and keep us accountable. My local church is known for sharing meals with the less fortunate and lending an ear to all who simply need a safe space to share their hurts and heartache. The local church is a place where God reveals His purposes for communities and where He transforms lives. It’s a place where the presence of the Holy Spirit dwells. I have met people who have been hurt by someone at their church and then turned away altogether. They associate one person's actions with God. I hope they realize that this hurt they have experienced is not God’s heart. A local church is a gathering of broken people seeking God’s presence. I pray that we can all have empathy for each other and practice forgiveness. So as far as the local church is concerned…. I'm a fan!

HFM: First of all, before we begin, how did it feel to be on the Soul Train Music Awards 2018?

I was honored to be a part of the event! It was really fun and exciting. Adam Blackstone is a legend and is a super talented musician. I was blessed to be able to work with him. When "Won't He Do It" was released, it was received well by so many! I believe part of it was the timing. The phrase seemed to be at an all time high, so I feel that definitely played a role. People move towards authenticity, and this song is very real which people have found to be super relatable. When it comes to social media and my ministry, I think social media is playing a role in everything these days. Of course it is just platform to be able to post about when I am ministering, so even when people cannot be there in person, they still get a chance to see and be a part. I love being able to share what God had done, and is doing for me! I hope that that can be an encouragement to my followers. Aside from the things I have already accomplished, outside of your ministry I would love to open my own Chick-Fil-A. Then one day, I would love to get involved in acting, and movies. I truly love the Lord! Even tho I am an artist, praise and worship is like going on a date with Jesus. It is your personal time. However, I think it is unique for everyone. It is whatever your relationship with God is. It can be singing, praying, going to church, ministering to others, but ultimately it depends on your individual relationship with God. With all that is going on in the world right now, there is always more to be done. The world is constantly changing, and not that the church needs to change, but we always need to be able to change our perspective in order to evoke change efficiently. www.korynhawthorne.com

What’s Holding You Back?

If you knew you could not fail what would you attempt to do? This is a question that many of us have heard before, but one we don’t usually take seriously. All of us have dreams, expectations, and things we would like to see happen but many of them don’t come to pass. Why? Sure, there could be a variety reasons such as lack of time, finances, insu ficient education or no opportunity. But do you know what is o ten the biggest factor? Fear. Many in our society have taken on a wrong identity and a wrong mentality about themselves and their abilities due to fear. Let’s think about this for a minute. When we were children, we use to pretend to be kings, queens, princesses, knights, and superheroes. But over time our dreams and ambitions began to take a backseat to society’s expectations for us. Our statements of “I am the best” and “I am the strongest” were too soon replaced with phrases like “am not so sure”, “what if I fail?”, “I am not good at that”, “I can’t”, “I’ve never done that before”, “what will others think”, “what will others say” “what if am no good” and the infamous “am scared”. These are opinions as well as lies that the Devil, society and sometimes even family has whispered in our ear. Sadly, we’ve o ten believed these lies and as a result, our society now runs on fear. Fear is all around us, and yet it does not have to be in us nor dominate us. God never intended for us to live our lives this way. And yet, most individuals operate out of a place of fear rather than a place of love, and acceptance. When fear drives us, it takes us places we don’t want to go, makes us do things we don’t want to do, and forces us to say things we don’t want to say. It holds us hostage then shoves us in a corner, and it makes us feel powerless and insignificant. And yet, when love drives us it does quite the opposite. The Bible tells in 2 Timothy 1:7” For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and selfcontrol.” Fear does not originate from God, love does. He empowers us, heals us, li ts us up and restores us. God is love. In our moment of weakness, he looks us in the eye and tells us “Let’s try again, this time I’ll help you”. Our response should be “Though I may be afraid I’ll trust you”. If we do this then he’ll help us to pick up the pieces and give us beauty in the place of our ashes. If we let go of fear and choose to take his hand and step out into the waters of our dreams and of the unknown, he’ll enable us to do those things we were deemed “unqualified” to do. I want to encourage you. No matter what last year was like choose to leave the past behind. It is not too late to start over

and to see your dreams come true. If God could use a murderer like Saul and a whore like Rahab, then he can use you. You are not disqualified. All you must do is turn to God and believe that he is more than enough, and he will help you every step of the way. Do not let what people have said or done make you bitter and keep you from your destiny. When God created you, he did not ask anyone else permission to write your life story. You are destined for greatness. Believe in your heart that this is a year of successful growth and expansion and do not settle for any less. Get rid of the baggage that keeps you constricted. Make the changes you must make even if it’s temporarily painful and do not give up on the process for God has not given up on you. Remember that it takes time for a baby to develop, and it will also take time for you to grow and to expand into the person God wants you to become. Be patient with yourself. You are not in this alone, God is holding your hand along the way. And this could be your best year yet. So, what’s holding you back? You’ve got nothing to lose but fear itself. The Best Is Yet to Come.

Tell us what makes your book "unique"? My book is unique because it was written out of my experiences and not out of my gifts. This book allows others to relate to an issue that most of us ask, “What is my purpose.” This book was written when I was in an isolated state, after my mother had passed away in March of 2010, with Stage IV stomach cancer. After this, I had undergone several obstacles in my life that led to more questions than answers. During that time in my life, the circumstances presented before me, made it possible for me to do something. I could either act by fulfilling my purpose, walk in a direction of progress and advancement; or react by responding and becoming subjected to the obstacle. Note to self, “When you are faced with an obstacle, look at it as an opportunity. Train your eye to see past the problem and look towards the future. Reinvent yourself, know who you are and your worth, be clear about your purpose, commit to your calling, submit to the choosing, and live your best life. I questioned where I was in my life, and at this point, I began to reflect on my existence and the reason why I was born. As individuals, we embark upon a journey in pursuit of identifying our purpose, and so many believe it is something that is not within reach. As I began to discover me, the gifts, talents, and skills that God has placed on the inside, then that is when I discovered my purpose. The discovery showed me how to use what God has placed on the inside of me to help, serve, love, inspire, impact, and influence others, for this is purpose. Walking in purpose leads to open doors and limitless opportunities, in which no one can close. In summary, the book is designed to guide the reader through a reflective thinking process to help him/her to identify their purpose, the systems, structures, and resources that are needed to fulfill the purpose. This book engages the readers mind to discover who they are, why they exist, and how to live each day purposefully. How do you want readers to feel when they are finished reading your work? When we do not walk in our purpose, we are doing a disservice to God and the assignment He has given us for our life. Therefore, I want individuals to focus on pleasing only one person, which is God by fulfilling the purpose for their life. After reading, I Am Still Here Living A Purposeful Life, individuals will passionately and eagerly pursue their purpose unapologetically and intentionally. Are there any other ventures you would like to pursue in the near future? Yes, there are several ventures I would like to pursue in the near future. I am in the process of releasing four new literary works. One is a children’s short story entitled, I am a QT…Queen in Training, to promote self-esteem in young girls and to prepare them for their greatness Additionally, I have two book collaborations that will be released, Set Apart and Chosen and Coaching Champions: How to Understand the Players Before Giving the Plays? A guide to improvement and success. The last of the book I will release is entitled, And Joseph had a dream: Principles for turning your dreams into a reality. #

In February, I will be a speaker at the Black and Influential Conference in Washington, DC. Lastly, in the Spring of 2019, I will be Local Ambassador for the Girls World Expo in the DMV area. Girls World Expo is designed to connect girls ages 12-18 with their peers, empower them to leverage their talents, to maximize their potential, and to inspire them to achieve greatness. Through all of the writings, projects, and speaking engagements that I will embark upon, I want to do it with passion, with purpose, and let others see an example of God’s love. You are the recipient of multiple awards and honors. Which one meant the most to you and why? The one that means the most to me, is the one that I receive and hear every day from my husband and children, “You are the best mom in the whole wide world.” No award and no honor are greater than those words, and the love my husband and children give.

Mentor, Author, Entrepreneur, Sexual Assault Advocate

“God pushes us into our purpose by using our deepest pain and revealing our triumph over it.” ~ Monique C. Daniels

Hello His Favor! Thank you for the opportunity to be featured. I am excited about this new phase of my life as I open myself up to new things that I believe will stretch and strengthen me. All faith builders!

What makes Bittersweet Love Chronicles so unique is that it is a collaborative work by the New Author explosion with over 20 personal stories that provide complete transparency into the many experiences involving love and relationships. In my chapter, I provide a snapshot of a traumatic time in my life and how I navigated through it toward healing. I try to provide as real of an experience a possible for the reader as they progress through my story. After readers are finished reading my book, I want them to be self-empowered by the words of affirmation in my story by “embarking on a journey of loving oneself” more after dealing with painful experiences in their life. My story is meant to provide hope, strength, and encourage those who may share the same narrative. My desire is that readers will recommend the book to others (friends, family, co-workers), but especially young ladies and gentlemen in high school and college so that they can read the experiences depicted in the book and hopefully avoid some of the mistakes and circumstances shared by the contributors. Prayerfully the book will be life-changing by providing preventative knowledge for all audiences.

Testimonials

“There’s definitely feelings of anger and sorrow, but overall I feel proud that you have not only survived the assault, but you are continuing to thrive a terward.” “Thanks for sharing such a traumatic experience with family, friends and strangers alike and I am confident your story has helped a lot of people deal more openly and honestly with less than favorable experiences in their lives. Unfortunately, too many women and girls have to go through situations like yours by people they trust.” “What I like most about your story is your inspiring message of hope to others who are recovering from sexual violence, and who might feel alone and powerless.” “A ter reading the book I realize that women are much stronger than others realize and you never truly know what people are dealing with.” “It is self-empowerment at its best. Your story made me feel stronger and I know it will help many other people!”

My future ventures include focusing on tapping into all aspects of my faith, building my family, and cultivating relationships. Eventually, I would like to work on a solo work that will depict my personal journey in more detail and how I’ve evolved as a woman and as an individual.

It’s important for Christians to be able to say, emphatically and with great confidence, “I am a Christian, This is Why.” Often Christians have a hard time or avoid altogether conversing with skeptics or people of other religions because, while they know what they believe, they have difficulty articulating why they believe with logical and reasoned answers. The funny thing about it is, “Most false religions know the lie, better than most Christians understand the truth.” My goal helps bring change to this issue. Yes, my own life, I didn’t grow up in the church or even in a predominantly Christian environment. I mostly grew up around Jehovah Witnesses and the Nation of Islam. In my early adult years, I was extremely skeptical about organized religion and the authenticity of the Bible and other religious canons. So I set out on a journey to research the major world religions and hopefully discover the truth and through this journey, I ultimately concluded that Christianity was logical and true. I know that sounds narrow, that is, that one religion could be the truth when there are so many religions out there. “However, the truth of the matter is, that truth is narrow. After all 2+2 will always equal 4 no matter how many other numbers are out there.” Some people may say well all religions have some truth in them, to that I would agree after all the best lies always include some truth. “However a half-truth is still a whole lie.”

About 5-years ago the Holy Spirit placed a burden and desire in me to help equip other Christians with tools to defend the faith. In other words, better explain why they believe what they believe, which are two different questions and answers. Additionally, to reach skeptics who are on the fence about what they believe because they have not heard any logical arguments that validate the truth about Christianity. And finally to engage and plant a seed in those who practice and believe another religion.

Yes, my book is not an indictment on the character, morals or values of anyone who practices another religion. It is a statement of why I believe what I believe, and while I am making a definitive truth statement about Christianity, It is backed by much reasonable evidence as outlined in my book. I encourage anyone practicing any other religion, to not base their decision on familiarity, family tradition, culture, environment, or just because its comfortable or makes them feel good. Rather, examine what you believe and seek evidence for its truth.
