HPL is recognized nationally as a Family Place Library and is State-accredited. Library Director Waynette Ditto shares that, “America’s libraries continue to transform themselves, keeping pace with the changing economic, social, and technological aspects of society. Libraries’ deepening engagement with their communities takes many forms, from technology to education to social services, and serves many segments of the population. The HPL continues to seek partnerships with the community to better serve our population.”

Hewitt Public Library's mission is to provide an environment where lifelong habits of learning, self-improvement and self-expression are encouraged, and where patrons can meet their educational, informational and recreational needs for all ages in a variety of formats. In carrying out that mission, the Library hosts dozens of programs throughout the year—including story time for preschool children, teens, culinary and other programs to educate the community.

In 2017, the Hewitt Public Library was nationally recognized as a Family Place Library for programming. The American Library Association recognized HPL with the STAR Award in 2017 and 2021. HPL was also recognized by the Texas Municipal Library with the Directors for Excellence Award. In addition, the Library was recently awarded approximately $187,000 to circulate HotSpots and Chromebooks to library patrons and businesses.
