Ro g ers- I v ie D o rmito ry G ets T w o T h u mb s U p ! The new Rogers-Ivie dorm houses 28 students with 14 double rooms. The dorm parents are Mr. and Mrs. Lindahl, Mr. and Mrs. Bray and Mr. Dietz . The dorm was named after the Rogers-Ivie family, whose son Aaron Ivie graduated from Gow in 2013 . Many people contributed money to build the dorm, most of them were alumni, current parents, parents of alumni and Gow faculty. O v erv iew

The Sanieski's were both born in Connecticut, Mr. Sanieski in New Haven in 1951 Mrs. Sanieski in Hartford, 1953 . PK received her BA from Southern Connecticut State College '75 majoring in Elementary Education and her MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley College '96. Walter received his BA in Spanish and Secondary Education from Boston College '73 and his MEd in Moderate Special Needs '00. They met in New Haven, CT in 1973 while Mrs. Sanieski was still in college at Southern. They continued their courtship while PK finished her last two years in college and Mr. Sanieski began his teaching career at the Gow School. Mr. Sanieski worked at the Gow School from 1974 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 1978. They were married in 1976. While at Gow, Mr. Sanieski served under headmasters Norman Howard and David Gow. They left Gow to return to their home state of CT to be closer to their families, having begun their own family with the birth of their first child, John-Paul (JP) in 1977. In 1979 their second son, Kevin was born and in 1981 their only daughter, Kristin arrived. After the move, Mr. Sanieski continued teaching at private schools in CT and MA. When the children all started school, Mrs. Sanieski began her teaching career in MA, first as a 5/ 6 teacher, then a second grade teacher. Throughout their careers as teachers, they have been deeply involved in working with students with dyslexia and learners with specific language needs. The Sanieskis will retire to their home in Enfield,CT when they leave Gow. They are "sincerely grateful to all the teachers, students, and staff at the school." We at Gow, feel priveledged to have worked with and learned from the Sanieskis. They will certainly be missed.

Retirements

In the fall of 1976 Mr. Kelley packed up his Ford Pinto and headed west from his home town of Branford, Conn. Mr. Kelley had just accepted a new job to teach history at The Gow School in South Wales, NY. He began teaching in the history department and in a few years later became the department chair. For the past 25 years he has been a valued member of the RL department. Mr. Kelley also helped on the athletic fields. He coached soccer, basketball and lacrosse. (Many people do not know that he was a collegiate volleyball player who played in the national semi-final tournament game.) Life was good for Mr. Kelley. He soon met and married his wife Jody Mahl whose brother also happened to attend Gow. Facts about Mr. Kelly He has taught at Gow for 40 years. He has taught RL and History. He has loved teaching, in fact he majored in teaching in college. He attended Springfield College and Buffalo State College. He grew up in Branford, Connecticut. He has a great collection of memories working with students and faculty over the years. His favorite song is "Promise Land" by Bruce Springsteen and the EStreet Band. He pitched a no hitter in baseball even though “I was a lousy pitcher.” He will feel good moving, but will miss The Gow School terribly and will be back to visit!

Mr. Kelley lived in Main Building, Templeton and Ellis dormitories during his career at Gow. He has many wonderful stories of the students who lived in the dorms with him as well as the other dorm parents that he shared the responsibilities with. Mr. and Mrs. Kelley moved into Hill House, an Honors Dorm, and eventually Willis House where they raised their two children Seth and Erin. In 1988 Mr. Kelley became the Dean of Students and a new chapter of his life began, Administration. It was four years later that Mr. Kelley became the Director of Upper School and Assistant Headmaster. It was here that his personal qualities reached out and touched so many. Behind the tough façade was a very caring and empathetic person. He had that unique ability to know when it was time to be firm, but also when to provide good counsel and a warm heart. Buffalo's weather could often create a dark cloud over the campus and Mr. Kelley knew when it was time to use humor to brighten everyone's day. Many people have expressed that his second career could have been a standup comedian. His dedication to his family, the school and professional guidance to his peers will be hard to replace. During Mr. Kelley's 40 year career at Gow he has left an everlasting memory for those who were lucky to have been touched by him. It is now time for Mr. Kelley to set his sights on one last accomplishment – retirement. He intends to stay in the local area where he will spend time with his extended family and pursue his hobbies of playing golf, working in his garden or proudly taking care of his grandson. Hopefully Mr. Kelley will find time to visit the faculty and students at Gow whose lives he has made such a positive impact.
