Editorial Beauty Balance I was fortunate enough to have the chance to take a short vacation to my home country (Malaysia) earlier this month, but while there's no place like home, traveling across the world in such a short span of time was exhausting. With the advent of the many holiday related events ahead, I believe October is the perfect time (and maybe the only time) we'll get to slow down and relax. This Beauty Balance edition is the ultimate A-Z guide on how to unwind and pamper yourself, including suggestions on how to create your very own at-home spa, which new brand of tea to try, and a selection of slouchy, comfortable clothing to wear lounge in. We visited one of our favorite spa retreats in the heart of New York City, and compiled an "it list" of all our favorite things. Draw a bath, prepare a cup of hot tea, and indulge in some "me time." You deserve it.

Spa Tricks With the onset of chilly nights, the thought of a warm, soothing retreat becomes more and more tempting. Thankfully, we don't have to stomach the exorbitant prices for a visit to the spa. There are plenty of products available to recreate the therapeutic environment within the comforts of our own home.
Set the scene End your busy day with a slow, calming candlelit shower. Make sure the bathroom is dark (turn off the lights or close the curtains) and light a scented candle. To complete the experience, have soothing music playing in the background—Enya is a perennial favorite—we promise you, you'll love it!

Exfoliate with a sugar scrub A sugar-based scrub is highly effective in sloughing off the dead skin that's sure to pile up during the colder months. Moisturize Do you find that sometimes your skin remains dry even if you apply moisturizer? Taking a hot bath opens up your pores, which means the moisture in your skin evaporates more readily. Leave your moisturizer in the bathroom and apply it as soon as you get out of the shower to seal in the moisture.

Take your vitamins Turn your shower in a sauna Don't have a bathtub? Just turn your shower on and run it at its hottest temperature for about 20 minutes. While the water and running and the steam is building, take a warm washcloth and dab on your favorite aromatherapy oil (lavender and rosemary are great de-stressing scents). When you step into the shower, put the washcloth up to your face and take a deep breath. In addition to being clearing up sinuses, it's a great way to unwind right before bed.
The winter air can be brutal on the skin, especially around the face. What could help is a dime-sized amount of vitamin E oil on your face under your moisturizer every night. It may feel a little greasy, but the effects are worth it when you wake up the next morning.

Help! My nails are frequently peeling and it looks like I pluck and bite my fingernails, which I do not. How do I make nail polish colors last on them?
What are your must-have hydration items for fall/winter?
I finally fulfilled my dream of being a redhead last week, but when I go in the shower an alarming amount of color seems to be washing out. Is there any way I can prolong the color?
I think the most important thing to take care is the foundation— are you eating enough protein? You could also add a nail strengthener or hardener to your routine. A base is also a must when applying nail polish to protect your nails. If you absolutely have to paint your nails while it's healing, try Butter London's Gel Effect Polish. It has a plumping effect that evens out any imperfections in the nail.
My recent obsession is Sulwhasoo's Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream, layered over a hydrating toner and serum. Once a week, I also use a sheet mask like the Tatcha Deep Hydrating Lifting Mask for a boost. My cuticles usually act up in the cold, so I make sure to carry Moroccanoil's Hand Cream in my purse and reapply everytime I wash my hands.

Unfortunately, your new hair color will dull within the first two weeks of your dye job, no matter what. You can try to maintain the vibrancy of your hair color by using products meant for color treated hair, such as Mastey's Color Protecting Leave-in Oil Treatment with Argan Oil & Olive Oil, and try to stretch out the frequency of your washes.
