AVK Rivet Nuts, Studs, and Installation Tools

Page 1

First for Aviation, Then the World The AVK Corporation (now AVK Industrial Products) was the first to commercialize rivet nuts. After B.F. Goodrich invented RIVNUTS in 1930 to attach deicers to the wings of airplanes, rivet nuts became the standard for the skinning and assembly of aircraft. Previously turned on screw machines, AVK pioneered rapid cold forming production methods in the 1970s that drastically dropped the cost of rivet nuts. They also developed thinwalled rivet nuts and simplified installation tools. Soon after, light-weight rivet nuts were adopted by manufacturers to attach thin skins of metal, carbon fiber, plastic, and fiberglass to skeletal frames of automobiles, appliances, buildings, and other products. Today AVK is a leading North American rivet nut manufacturer and trailblazer in this emerging technology.

“Were rivet nuts used in this Lockheed Model 10-E Electra? Maybe someday we will know.”
