GIFTSHOP ist eine Ausstellung, die unsere grenzenlose Konsumgesellschaft reflektiert, indem Alltagsgegenstände durch deren Nutzung eine performative Extension vollziehen. So finden Sie in der Ausstellung alles, was Ihren Alltag schöner machen wird: Fußmatten, Porzellanteller, Schneidebretter, Champagnergläser, Servietten, Schlafmasken, Schneekugeln, Wolldecken, Kissen, Duschvorhänge, Spiegel, Handtücher, Aschenbecher, Spielzeug für Kinder und Erwachsene, Plakate, ein Stofftierchen und natürlich Taschen und Kleidung.

ANNA BERNDTSON wurde 1972 in Malmö, Schweden geboren. Studium an der Hochschule für Bildende Kunst Braunschweig bei Prof. Marina Abramovic, sowie am City of Bath College und Dartington College of Arts, UK. Ausstellungen und Performances u.a. im Irish Museum of Modern Art Dublin, Fondation Beyeler, Kunst-Werke Berlin, Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam und P.S.1 MoMA New York. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Malmö und Berlin.

GIFTSHOP Excessive merchandising replaces the presence of art and the artist. GIFTSHOP is an exhibition reflecting our limitless consumer society, through the performative extension of every day product usage. In the exhibition you will find everything to make you happier in your everyday life: doormats, porcelaine plates, champagne glasses, napkins, sleep masks, snow globes, blankets, pillows, shower curtains, mirrors, towels, ashtrays, toys for children and adults, posters, a plushie and of course bags and clothes.

ANNA BERNDTSON born 1972 in Malmö/Sweden. Graduated from HBK Braunschweig (student of Prof Marina Abramovic), as well as from the City of Bath College and Dartington College of Arts, UK. Exhibitions and Performances at Irish Museum of Modern Art Dublin, Fondation Beyeler, Kunst-Werke Berlin, Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam and P.S.1 MoMA New York. She lives and works in Malmö and Berlin.

Wie Abramovic geht auch Berndtson an Grenzen, an ihre eigenen, aber auch an die des Betrachters. Diese lotet sie sowohl in Long Durational Performances als auch in ihren plastischen Arbeiten aus. Oftmals ist es nur eine Bewegung, die sie über Stunden ausführt, mit der sie eine Intensität erlangt, die provoziert und berührt. Das erfordert Geduld und den Willen des Betrachters, sich auf ihre Arbeiten einzulassen. Selbes gilt für ihre plastischen Arbeiten, in denen man dieselbe Intensität wieder finden kann. Ins Zentrum stellt die Künstlerin dabei immer ihren Körper und ihre Wahrnehmung von Raum und Umgebung, von Erinnerung und Vergänglichkeit.

Like Abramovic, Anna Berndtson explores limits. In her long durational performances and photographic and video works, she goes beyond her own limits as well as beyond those of the public. With only one movement, exercised over hours, she creates an intensity that is provocative and emotionally touching. Her works are asking for patience, and need the will of the beholder to get involved. Her body and her perception of space and surrounding, of memory and fugacity are the center of her works.
