Have some Reindeer Fun this December! This December, why don’t you grab your antlers and support your local children’s hospice by having some Reindeer Fun? Whether you want to Run, Cycle, Row, Ramble, or come up with your own fundraising challenge, Chestnut Tree House will provide everything you need for your Reindeer Fun event, including free reindeer antlers and red noses for everyone taking part, online materials, helpful hints and tips, and sponsorship forms. We can also give an audience-appropriate assembly or talk about the hospice either in person, or via an online platform such as Zoom. By taking part in Reindeer Fun, you are helping care for around 300 local children who are not expected to live to adulthood. They’ll visit the House and create precious memories with their families. They’ll receive vital support from the Community Team in the comfort of their own homes. And, when the time comes, Chestnut Tree House will help families say goodbye, in whatever way feels right for them. Places to Visit this Summer & Autumn - Vouchers Burgess Hill BMX track RH15 8RW. The Burgess Hill BMX track opened in 2014 in Leylands Park. The track is the only one of its kind in Mid Sussex. Chailey Common 450 acres of walks, horse riding and cycling on paths only to protect the wildlife habitats and grazing livestock. Devil’s Dyke Devil’s Dyke Road, Poynings, near Brighton. Longest, deepest and widest ‘dry valley’ in the UK. Open dawn until dusk, National Trust seasonal events are held on site. Ditchling Common woodland and heathland walks across the 27 acre site and around a pond with ducks, geese and swans, picnic tables, free parking. Forest Way footpath, bridleway and cycle path running approx 10 miles from East Grinstead to Groombridge, with seats and picnic benches along the route. Indirectly linked to the Worth Way from Three Bridges to East Grinstead. Skateboard and Scooter Parks at St John’s Park, Burgess Hill; Victoria Park, Haywards Heath; Bolnore Village, Whitemans Green & Henfield South Downs National Park and South Downs Way, including Ditchling Beacon, which is the second highest point in the South Downs National Park with spectacular views across the Weald. As the name suggests, Ditchling Beacon was one of a chain of fires lit to warn of impending invasions. It was once an Iron Age hill-fort, with its steep northern slope used as a natural defence. It’s now managed by The National Trust and Sussex Wildlife Trust. You can reach Ditchling Beacon via Breeze Buses which are open top in summer – weather permitting. Wolstonbury Hill in the South Downs, Pyecombe, has been an important landmark for thousands of years. Iron Age farmers grazed animals on its summit and the Romans left pottery remains on its slopes. Worth Way A 7 mile long shared-use route from Three Bridges to East Grinstead used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders and indirectly linked to the Forest Way which continues to Groombridge. Ashdown Forest Centre Wych Cross RH18 5JP – 01342 823583 Metrobus 270. Once a Norman deer hunting forest, Ashdown Forest is now one of the largest free public access sites in the South East, and the ‘home’ of Winnie the Pooh. Walks, Forest Centre and riding with a permit. Batchelor’s Field Recreation Ground Bolney RH17 5PE Tarmac pump track designed and built by the company who built the 2012 Olympic BMX Supercross track. Beacon Bikes London Road, Albourne BN6 9BQ – 07542 188633. Electric bike hire and free off road parking. A hidden gem, tucked away and secluded from the road. Located within the Q Leisure complex 4 miles from Brighton, near Hassocks. The Beacon Bikes Cafe is a family and pet friendly cafe offering homemade and organic cakes and savouries and award winning, freshly ground coffee. Summer Fun at Nymans and Standen House &09/06/2022 Garden14:42 Come out and play this summer at Nymans. There's plenty to keep little ones entertained, from active play challenges in Comber’s Field, to having fun in the Play Glade, Nymans’ natural play space. During the summer holidays, a 'Pavilion of Play' large-scale play installation means that playtime is just about to get bigger, better and wilder than ever, as you'll find out what it really means to get closer to nature - in a world of lofty lookouts, giant ear trumpets, peculiar periscopes, and a whole lot more... Join in with an outdoor adventure at Nymans with ‘The Pirate, The Seed and The All-Seeing Tree’, where you're invited on a voyage of discovery around the garden. Listen out for tales of the ancient Cedar tree. Why is the Plant Pirate here and what is he up to? Can a lost seed grow in a strange land? Colourful characters are on a quest to find answers and they need your help. Performances are throughout the day from Friday 29 July - Sunday 31 July and Friday 5 August - Sunday 7 August. £8 per person, plus normal admission. Catch an open air performance of ‘The Railway Children’ on Monday 29 August with doors opening at 5pm, giving time to enjoy a picnic on the lawn in front of the ruins before the performance begins at 6pm.
