Cuando se apaga la última vela se da la orden de eliminar cualquier fuente de luz que se encuentre en el templo el cual queda en oscuridad total por media hora aproximadamente. Durante las tinieblas se realiza la flagelación de los varones y se oyen llantos de arrepentimiento, este acto también representa un momento de reflexión de muchas personas. Todo culmina cuando se da la orden de prender nuevamente todas las luces y los cirios grandes. Pese a ello los azotes a los varones todavía continúan, lo mismo que las reprimendas a las personas que durante el año se comportaron mal,
Following the final candle, all sources of light are extinguished and the church remains in total darkness for about half an hour. During this time, the sounds of men undergoing flagellation can be heard, along with their cries of repentance; a period of profound reflection for many people. This part of the ritual draws to a close when the lights return and the large candles are reignited. The whipping of men continues, a reprimand for any bad behaviour committed during the year.
