Iberian House Makeover

Rubielos de Mora, the gateway to one of Europe’s oldest regions, is home to a rural mansion that is both an architectural and design gem. The site could not be more ideal, since the area has received numerous awards, including the Europa Nostra Award and recognition as one of Spain’s ’Most Beautiful Villages’. The house is a great example of Rubielos’ typical vernacular architecture. All of these techniques, from iron fittings to wood and stonework, are merged in one work, making this project ageless and elevating tradition. With various styles and a panoply of furniture, lighting and accessories, Covet

House’s brands provided the perfect palette for this totally new makeover.

A RURAL MAKEOVER PROJECT

IBERIAN MODERN HOUSE

DISCOVERED BY MADDIE QUINN WORDS & PHOTOGRAPHY COVET HOUSE

The inside is just as rustic as the front, yet it’s also contemporary and attractive. The interior courtyard has been developed as a private world where the house opens to, with its presumed Iberian style. The house’s first level, which is more open, has the daylight rooms, which are displayed in tiers. The bedrooms are on the second floor, which is more private. The living room, one of the characteristic divisions of the ‘casa montaesa’, is located on the first level.

A very clean and simplistic aesthetic, this interior is truly a magnificent feat. The balance between elements, in which the woods and sombre tones create a real modern vibe, in juxtaposition with the stonework, provides the architecture of this house with such a rural and classic feeling.

The entrance welcomes every visitor with a classic from Boca do Lobo, the Apollo Mirror. The frame of this modern design mirror is totally sublime with intricate ornate carvings. The exterior frame is made from solid oak wood and mahogany with a gold leaf finish. ›

The dining area and kitchen share the same open space, where a breath-taking view over the patio Is the perfect backdrop for a splendid dinner party or a long late breakfast. The kitchen features a kitchen island, that serves both as a preparation station with sink and as a counter as well. The rural looking oven and stove, complemented with the copper kitchen items decorating the walls, elevate this kitchen to an even more sophisticated level.

The Nuka Counter Stool and Dining Chairs are the two items which play an important role in displaying the uniqueness and the classic elements in a very modern area. The Nuka family came to life inspired by the Nuka glacier in Alaska, upholstered in a soft velvet with a nail trim in polished gold – a chic detail that will not go unnoticed. ›

The rusticity and Spanish touch are obvious in dark, but also pleasant tones. The living room houses remarkable design artifacts, such as the Boca do Lobo Eden Copper Centre Table, in addition to the incredible architecture of the space.

Also, this sleek sitting room area has one of Brabbu’s most well-known pieces, the Maya Armchair upholstered in a soft black velvet, matching the overall look for the other pieces, becoming a strong presence and contrasting its classical organic erganomic shape with the straight lines from the sofa. ›

Still in the living room, there’s a small reading corner, where Delightfull’s mid-century modern vibe enters in perfect harmony with the rest of the furniture pieces in this area. The resting armchair already possess a mid-century feel to it, but with the Sinatra Floor Lamp, this otherwise simple reading corner is turned into a sophisticated relaxing area as well. The other rooms follow this simplistic modern aesthetic, with black being the main theme to connect them, highlighted by the deployment of very idyllic elements. ›
