EDITOR’S  LETTER force to be creative and innovative. They need to be incentivized for saving electricity and pressure on the infrastructure. If your data and infra can be placed in someone else’ premise, why cannot people work in their own premise. It is a mindset. Many of the billion-dollar companies are preferring their workforce to operation from their homes or remote locations. They are pretty good in terms of their growth. We are talking about sustainability and minimizing carbon emission. Working from office is exactly the opposite of the concept of sustainability. In fact, we cannot achieve goal if we keep our lights on always. Goal based productivity should be the goal of every organization. There should be proper assessment of employees and incentives to be dolled out to the productivity centric workforce in order to motive other people. Every employ needs to be given time to learn and reskill himself or herself.

NEED TO CHANGE THE WORK STYLE TO GAIN PRODUCTIVITY

Hello Friends.

Two months to go into the end of the calendar year 2021, it looks like another era altogether and we are in San Andreas (2015 released Hollywood Movie) and there is lull after the tempest. We have lost many lives and destroyed economy and now things are settling down slowly. The learning is that uncertainly is always on with us. We should be prepared for everything, and technology is the savior. Convenience should be given priority over cost. Technologies like VDI, remote access, remote collaboration, zero trust access should be given preference event if things are normal. There is a huge debate between remote work, hybrid work and work from office. Similarly, the debate is happening over cloud verses on premise. The IT leadership needs to take decision on whether to burn midnight candle in solving problem or give convenience to people who can work from any where without even coming to office. Team building is an art and motivating people to work is a skill. The IT leadership needs to convince their management to give freedom to the work-

Titania Launches New Module for Organizations Working with U.S. Government Agencies to Meet Cybersecurity Compliance Accurately

Titania, specialists in accurate core network security assessment, compliance management, and risk remediation software, announced the launch of a new dedicated module to assess NIST 800-171 compliance for core network devices, both quickly and accurately. The module, an add-on to Titania’s Nipper product, allows any organization that works with U.S. government agencies and handles controlled unclassified information (CUI) in a non-federal IT system to automate compliance for 89% of the core network requirements. Titania Nipper automates the accurate assessment of 31 of NIST 800-171 core network (firewalls, switches, and routers) security requirements across eight control families. The control families include configuration management, identification and authentication, and risk and security assessment. The new Titania Nipper NIST

800-171 module will automate the assessment of 15 of these requirements across six control families. Evidential information for a further six requirements across four control families will also be highlighted by the module. A companion guide will be provided to illustrate how Nipper can be used to achieve the remaining 10 requirements. Matt Malarkey, Vice President, Strategic Alliances, U.S. said “Any organization that works with CUI data from the U.S. government needs to comply with these required cybersecurity standards. Some may not be aware of their compliance status, and others may find the assessment process too arduous. This tool can make compliance for NIST 800-171 easier, which means you can focus on retaining and growing your business instead of worrying about losing it,”.

Where consumers’ digital lives need protection, Norton will be there.” Keeping pace with consumers’ digital lives which has dramatically changed over the past years, the Norton brand has grown from a leading anti-virus provider to one of the most comprehensive Cyber Safety portfolios for consumers.

In today’s technology-driven world, tech solutions are deployed with a hope to generate income keeping cost, privacy, security, feature set and reliability in mind. IceWarp, being a global leader in developing email and collaboration tools, is one such solution that offers hybrid deployment where organizations can optimize email, messaging and collaboration server so that everyone has the features they need. The company’s solution works as simple as it sounds but in a much more effective way. Hybrid deployment combines IceWarp with any existing email server running parallelly on one domain. Both connected servers communicate and function together looking like one. Users on IceWarp can be connected on the original server while others can be connected on the other server. Additionally, for both on-premises and cloud deployments, IceWarp puts data protection first. Each customer has their own dedicated server space ensuring complete privacy and security. IceWarp’s solution is GDPR + HIPAA compliant with no algorithm training on your data and no global learning algorithms. Commenting on the same, Pramod Sharda, CEO at IceWarp, India & Middle East said, “Migration to IceWarp is very easy.

What Are The Best Ways To Build Brand Awareness? Building brand awareness is all about making consumers familiar with your brand. Many of us are more likely to use a company if we’re already familiar with their brand name, logo or slogan. All in all, it can be a way of establishing trust and building future customers. But just what is the best way to build brand awareness? Below are a few different tactics for building familiarity around your brand. PPC advertising Pay-per-click (PPC) adverts are the most common type of internet ad. Many of us never actually click on these adverts, however they do make an impression on us – many of us subliminally become familiar with companies simply from seeing these ads. PPC ads could include promoted search listings on Google, banner ads on websites or even video ads on YouTube – think about how you can harness the power of these ads to boost your business.

Eric Dalius: Number 1 customer retention tip: Why you should never ignore your existing customers When you’ve just started out in business, it’s all about getting new customers, right? That might seem true at first glance, but if you ignore your existing customers and focus solely on bringing new ones in the door, then the chances are that you’re going to go under. The fact is this: The sooner your customers become loyal the less money and time you will spend trying to secure them in the first place (and because they’ve been with you for such a long time, chances are they’ll bring along their friends). You should do everything in your power to keep them engaged with you and avoid doing

the things that will make them want to leave when they’re not exactly happy with what you have to offer. Give your customers the attention and service they deserve and they will repay you by staying loyal for as long as possible. Here’s how by Eric Dalius: 1: Listen to what your customers want You need to find out what it is that makes them tick if you want to keep hold of them. If they’re calling, emailing, or messaging you with complaints then this is a sure sign that something isn’t right and needs fixing ASAP! No matter where

the fault laid, it’s important that you get in touch with them and find out what the problem is so that you can put it right. If they’ve emailed, then shoot them back an email with a brief explanation as to why their complaint isn’t valid and how the issue will be resolved. If you’re already running some kind of customer service then make sure that your agents know about this too. You need to let them know that every single customer needs special attention because despite what some people might think, customers are always right (even if they’re not).

Organizations with a multi-cloud strategy can now have an end-to-end solution for security posture management and cloud workload protection from the same security vendor. “In the past year, digital transformation has been accelerated by remote workforce mandates and the current hybrid work environments that many companies have implemented. WEATHERING THE DETOURS OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION: PRODUCTS AND PLATFORM MODERNIZATION Introduction Digital transformation is slowly gaining obsolescence in the vocabulary of digital business - and no doubt, all businesses today, are digital businesses. Digital transformation, once hailed as the great makeover no longer looks the same; instead, leaders across industries are increasingly opting for an incremental and continuous approach to reinventing and renovating core business enablers in today’s environment: products and platforms. In fact, successful digital transformation (if one can still call it that), finely traverses the line that bridges the function of the product and the platform, and gives way to impeccable customer experiences powered by enabling platforms that simplify the task of the cross-functional teams that support customer experience from within the organization. So, what is the secret to getting it right?

This is because, that symbiosis is powered by data, and getting to a data strategy that works is a critical part of platform and product modernization today. Because platforms ease the job of employees and those serving the customers on the front lines, a key area of improvement in platform modernization is the ability to gauge what goes on at the interface of the enterprise and the customer. On the other hand, product modernization rests on improved experience delivery, which in turn, is a multivariate function of how smoothly processes, internal teams, technology, and business aspects cohere to serve the needs of the end-user. Bringing these two aspects of a digital reinvention, enterprises can achieve a competitive and financial advantage that helps them climb the leadership ladder in their business. How is this symbiosis achieved, and how to strike the right balance?

The platform-product symbiosis Platforms and products serve markedly different functions today. Achieving a healthy symbiosis, or in other words, a feedback loop that augments the function and capabilities on either sides, forms a key aspiration for CIOs and CTOs today.

Four cornerstones of successful transformation, revisited in 2021 In line with the rising currency of customer experience, here are four pillars of successful transformation that are quintessential to striking a symbiotic balance between platform and product

He can be reached at https://www.linkedin.com/in/ kevin-grayling-045b7aa/ modernization imperatives today. #1 Focus on the bridge - that is, data What bridges employee and customer experience in the digital business infrastructure is data. Looking at the data landscape of the modern business, enterprises need to focus on two key categories when it comes to data - customer data, and transactional data. While customer data is instrumental in powering personalized journeys that make sense to each and every customer, transactional data helps you measure the performance of business-technology systems, magnitude of improvements, and in the process of resolving issues as and when they occur. Data must be architected with a long-term vision, as it remains (and will remain) the bridge between platforms and products, employee and customer experience, and legacy and modern technology as new capabilities make their way into the market. Therefore, building secure, fast, and reliable access to data across the product and platform landscape of the enterprise is critical to achieving a multiplier effect on RoI of transformation initiatives. #2 Deliver insights at the point of action To power personalized customer journeys, platforms must take care of three key aspects of the organization’s internals: processes, governance, and ownership. Platform modernization must therefore be undertaken with a vision to internalize best practices, and align business actions with each and every known which can enhance the

action taken by the employee in question. Leveraging API-based insights and analytics delivery within the platform in an environment-agnostic manner will be a key imperative for platform modernization, and the maturity of the data layer will play a key role in empowering the employees with the intelligence they need to maximize the business value of their efforts. #3 Data-driven product modernization Products are undoubtedly one of the key elements that impact the customer experience in a tangible manner. However, a key question that product owners face is what aspect of the product will lead to the highest returns in terms of end-user experience. To answer it, however, product owners need to take a data-driven approach to experience measurement, and develop and alter the product roadmap in line with their findings. This requires an impeccable attention to the customer journey (and this exercise takes on different forms when it comes to B2C and B2B lines) - for instance, what is the degree of utilization of features within a product portfolio? What experiences command the highest value for end-users? The answer to these questions rests within the data layer, where AI models must be deployed to contextualize customer data with transactional data, and delivered to product owners in an appropriate form. #4 Focus on the core - that is, IT and governance Successful digital transformations look at IT as

an opportunity for impact delivery, rather than a cost black-hole. What follows from there, is the need for involvement of the IT teams in the transformation initiatives, with a simultaneous realignment of the IT infrastructure with the needs of the business and the technology layer. Spend across all categories of the IT infrastructure must be measured, and ownership of outcomes and improvements must be clearly defined. Also instrumental in achieving success in the downstream impact of platform and product modernization, is the role of AI-driven IT operations, which ultimately enable enterprises to monitor each and every cog of the infrastructure that empowers business orchestration on a dayto-day basis and minimal costs. What next? As businesses transact with the digital-savvy customer in today’s markets, a sharp attention to customer experience and its enablers is the key to finding success. Moreover, technologies are evolving at a faster pace now than ever before, affecting a rapid evolution of the ask from product and platform aspects. Therefore, understanding the levers that bring maximal impact on the journey of the end-user is, therefore, a critical factor that determines the success, and more importantly, the impact of successful transformation initiatives today.

ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY FACILITY //  DATA CENTER

CTRLS NOIDA DATACENTER – INDIA’S MOST SUSTAINABLE AND ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY FACILITY BY SANJAY MOHAPATRA @ACCENTINFOMEDIA.COM

D

ata center is a fast-growing industry predicted to value $1,12,465.55 million by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 10.99 per cent (Verified Market Research). However, as an industry, it is responsible for three per cent of global power consumption and nearly two per cent of total greenhouse gas emissions, needs to become sustainable faster than any other industry. As we produce zettabytes of data every day, the energy consumption to store and process those data will also increase drastically. Various experts predict that the energy consumption of data centers will account for 3.2 per cent of the global carbon emissions by 2025 and will consume one-fifth of global electricity that is doubling every four years. By 2040, storing data digitally is set to create approximately 14 per cent of the global emissions. Today, being sustainable and carbon neutral is the mission of every data center that cares for the environment and the populace. However, the task is gigantic than one can think of. We now live in a digital world and hence continues to generate huge data that needs to be stored safely. As of 2018, there were nearly 18 million servers deployed in data centers globally (Shehabi et al, 2016). But this number is predicted to multiply many times in the coming years. This means more and more energy consumption to constantly cool the data centers, which makes data centers highly vulnerable to the world. The servers, disks and networking equipment which needs continuous cooling, power distribution, backup batteries and generators, lighting, fire suppression, and the building materials make the data centers infra-

structure heavy. This infrastructure overhead is measured using Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). The ideal PUE is 1.0 and it helps data centers look through its overall operations, and identify opportunities to increase efficiency, which help reduce operating costs. A lower PUE is important in making a data center sustainable. Most of the data centers operated by CtrlS enjoy a low PUE of approximately 1.35. Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder and CEO, CtrlS says, “We have had 200 innovations since our inception and 80 of those innovations have been focused on energy efficiency. We have successfully lowered the PUE to 1.35. This is the lowest in the industry. We are committed to minimizing fossil fuels, reducing carbon footprint, building green data centers, maximize utilization of renewable energy, while ensuring highest uptime for our customers so that they can run their business seamlessly, while sustainability stays as our major focus area.” A Truly Sustainable Data Center Quality of air is as important to the health of data centers as it is to human lungs. Clean air extends the life of data centers by several years and even save them a lot on CAPEX and OPEX, while poor air quality causes severe damages to IT equipment. However, in places with high air pollution content, like that of Noida, the case becomes more critical as it contaminates data center at various levels. The harmful and corrosive gases coming from pollutants usually make their way into the data centers through air-conditioned server rooms, control rooms, switchgear rooms, process control

and signal switching rooms. This kickstarts a phenomenon called micro-electronic corrosion, leading to equipment failure and increased downtime of the facility. It also damages electrical components like film disks, edge connectors, disk drivers and others. As data center equipment and technologies are sophisticated and expensive, it requires constant and intensive maintenance. Even a small trace of contamination could shorten the lifespan of these equipment, and maintenance and monitoring technologies. It can even break down the HVAC temperature sensors, and cleaning devices. This would require constant replacement of expensive materials, which is not financially viable. Hence it becomes more critical for data center providers to maintain a healthy indoor air quality. Doing so will help keep possibilities of corrosion at bay. To achieve this, data centers need to meet tight standards, one of which is to ensure clean and cool indoor air. However, cooling IT equipment eat nearly 50% of data centers’ electricity requirement. Hence data center providers invest heavily in R&D to find sustainable measures to reduce their carbon footprint. While free cooling is an option, it brings contamination along with it. Imagine air pollution entering your data center every time you open the door, and depositing salts in the air inside. These salts are primary generator of corrosion, causing deterioration of electronic components. It wouldn’t even spare components like disk driers, graphic cards, motherboards, transistors and more. Common pollutants like sulphur dioxide, hydrogen sulphide and particulate matter found inside the data centers can break down computer circuitry and metals. Imagine such damages/failures leading to unplanned downtime! This will lead to financial losses. Hence properly designed air filtration systems are the need of the hour, which eliminates risks, save maintenance and electrical costs apart from preventing corrosion and other environmental contamination. Air purifiers are an emerging trend among data center providers. However, one of the pioneers is CtrlS Noida Data Center that already has an existing air purification plant. Built to address the high concentration of air pollution in the region, the plant processes the contaminated air, scrubs it, and then releases clean air into the data center, which is good for both IT infrastructure and human lungs. The air filtration plant provides sulphur free air through airtight envelope H2S and SO2, with double-layered perimeter walls, air scrubbers, +ve pressurized system along with treated fresh

air system. Pinkes Ambvat, CIO, CRIF India, says, “Data is very critical at CRIF Highmark, as we manage our processes completely through technology. Availability of technology infrastructure is key to our operations. To my mind, one of the key players who has taken a pro-active step to protect their customers data in India is CtrlS Datacenters. They have installed an air filtration plant in their Noida data center facility to ensure metal-based equipment does not suffer from corrosion.” Gartner said that downtime costed $5,600 per minute on average, which results in average costs between $140,000 and $540,000 per hour depending on the organization, which includes failures causes due to air pollution, human errors, earthquake and others. Indeed, earthquake is the next biggest concern for data centers and hence they avoid having facilities at such places. But as businesses grow across geographies, ignoring such places is no more an option. Proper planning and a multitude of other measures apart from constantly maintaining data center health are some important steps in making a data center possible at places of frequent earthquakes. Noida indeed stands at the epicenter of earthquake zone. The Delhi-NCR region shook nearly 11 times in June 2020 alone. However, CtrlS has built one of the highest feature-loaded hyperscale data centers on the NCR. Complying with zone-5 standards, CtrlS Noida data center is also built to withstand earthquakes measuring 8.5 on Richter scale to ensure smooth and seamless availability of the facility during a disaster. The company is exploring renewable energy as an alternative to fossil fuels to power its data center facility, which is likely to further reduce the carbon footprint. It has deployed an air filtration plant to ensure elimination of air pollutants which harm humans and IT infrastructure, making it an environment and earth friendly Green Data Center. Pinkes Ambvat, CIO, CRIF India, adds, “CtrlS data center in Noida is quake resistant, thus ensuring critical data is completely protected from such natural disasters.” A truly sustainable data center is beyond just energy efficiency. Zero wastage of water, energy, and food and using ecofriendly materials to construct the data center is an important composition of being sustainable. Sustainability is also about ensuring that clients’ critical data doesn’t suffer any loss due to natural calamities like flood and quake. CtrlS appears to be the most advanced and sustainable data center in northern India with its office at Noida. The company’s Noida data center

NEXT-GEN DATA CENTRE CONNECTIVITY: 400G AND BEYOND

SUDHIR PILLAI, Managing Director, Corning India

BY SANJAY@ACCENTINFOMEDIA.COM

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sudhir Pillai was appointed managing director, Corning India, in April 2020. Sudhir is responsible for the company’s growth and operations in India and neighboring countries. He also oversees Corning’s fiber manufacturing operations in Pune, India. Sudhir joined Corning India in March 2019 as the commercial director for Corning Life Sciences (CLS). During that time, he also led sales operations for Corning Pharmaceutical Technologies (CPT).

The data centre industry is experiencing unprecedented growth and innovation as new players, new business models and new technologies converge. Despite a slowdown in 2020, Gartner projects that spending on global data centre infrastructure will reach $200 billion in 2021 and grow year-on-year through 2024. Driving this growth is a need to support ever more rapid and seamless transition of data, with technologies like 5G, and the applications it supports, requiring huge volumes of data to be processed, analysed and stored. This will see a need to not only invest in faster transceiver technology, future-ready physical infrastructure, cabling and connectivity but also simplify network architectures which have become more 22 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD    NOVEMBER 2021

and more complex over time. Fibre optic connectors will play an important role in this transition and the past few decades have seen the arrival of a diverse range of connector types, some developed to support the scalability of data centres as they have grown to reach 40G and 100G. From the range of connectors released to the market within the last 30 years, there are two interfaces, the LC duplex and MPO/MTP® which have made their way into the standards for data centres. However, what is fit for purpose today can quickly change as the industry moves forward and new architectures emerge. As data centre operators search for modern ways to achieve faster, greater, and more powerful data rates like 400G, we they must look at even higher density connectivity and ways to simplify network design with breakout options. Beyond the readily available form factors, the market is meeting this need by introducing new connectors categorised as ‘Very Small Form Factor Connectors’ (VSFFC) such as the Senko Nano (SN) and US Conec Mini-Duplex Connector (MDC). As of yet, equipment manufacturers have not released transceivers for these connector interfaces, but they are expected to announce their availability within the next couple of years.

MDC – LC Uniboot and MDC – MDC Patch Cord

What does this mean for your data centre? From tenants in colocation data centres that pay by space, to users that are reaching capacity in their own facilities, achieving greater density and preparing for future requirements is increasingly

key. Even though today you may not need to implement 400G in your data centre increasing density in the main distribution area (MDA) is always valuable and future demands from new applications or services may consume the bandwidth available to date MDC and SN connector formats promise the possibility of connecting directly from one high-speed transceiver to another transceiver, which simplifies the insertion of individual connectors into various switches from 400G to 4x100G. In addition, up to three MDC or SN connectors fit into the footprint of an LC duplex, which provides an enormous density advantage.

SN – SC Simplex Patch Cord

For operators struggling with reduced space in their data centre, implementing LC Duplex connectivity with LC to MDC patchcords and compatible hardware is an effective approach. This will not only allow the LC Duplex footprint to be retained at the transceiver end but the port density with MDC in modules or cassettes of the same size can also be increased by up to 3x – imagine the possibility of having 432 instead of 144 fibres in one rack-unit. VSFFCs also help to lower the total cost of ownership. Various optical component manufacturers are already starting to offer solutions with these connectors, but it is important to find the best cabling infrastructure solution that also allows for continued use or reuse of existing components.

HOW MANAGED SERVICE PROVIDERS PREVENT CYBER THREATS

NATHAN HILL-HAIMES, Co-Founder, Amvia.

BY SANJAY@ACCENTINFOMEDIA.COM

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Nathan is an Investor & Co-Founder at Amvia, a serial telecoms entrepreneur, and inbound marketing expert. From his home in coastal North Devon, Nath works with a portfolio of technology, property & sports investments through his fund Croyde Bay Ventures. When he’s not working, Nath can usually be found surfing, mountain biking, or walking the North Devon Coast with Wilf his Working Cocker.

How managed service providers prevent cyber threats Managed service providers (MSPs) offer a range of business support services that can help with everything from accountancy to telephony, but one of the most important services they offer is cyber security. With increasing cyber threats aimed at businesses of all sizes, managing your cyber security couldn’t be more important and that’s where a managed service provider who specialises in protecting businesses can help. What are managed services in cyber security? A professional MSP offers a whole range of cyber security managed

services, including email security, regular, secure backups, management of firewalls and endpoints, education of staff, and password management. Your MSP will monitor your network, looking out for any suspicious activity and working to block spam and phishing attacks while preventing security breaches. Should the worst happen, and an attacker manages to break through, your MSP can minimise damage and disruption, and have your business back up and running again quickly, with the restoration of a clean backup. Your MSP will look after software updates and patches, including setting up the right security settings for Microsoft 365, and other needed software. They’ll secure your hardware and your communications, ensuring VoIP calls are secure and encrypted. In short, they’ll do everything they can to protect you from cyber-attacks and to restore everything quickly should a breach happen. Why does a business need managed cyber security services? Well, we’ve given you quite the list of tasks above that a professional MSP has the staff to handle 365 days a year and 24/7. They provide always-on protection and monitoring. The thing to consider is this; Do you have the range of skills needed within your business to cover every aspect of cyber security? And not only that, do you have the budget to pay an in-house team that will take care of everything for you, not just during the day, but on evenings, weekends, and holidays too? An MSP can save you money with an agreed service level agreement that provides you with the skills to protect your business, without having to hire a full team and have the added costs of

pensions, bonus schemes, paying tax and National Insurance, maternity and paternity benefits, and so on. Depending on their skill set, an MSP may also bring other options to your business, such as secure remote working, cloud computing, AI, and other technical developments that an in-house team couldn’t match. How do you manage cyber security threats? The best place to start is with a risk assessment to identify and evaluate any cyber threats against your business. Look at the severity of the risk and possible consequences, then prioritise them. Look into how to protect against these threats, mitigate them, and deal with them if they happen. You’ll then need to put protections in place and communicate what you’ve done to staff and managers at all levels of the business, stressing the impact of cyber threats and how each staff member can help. If you have the know-how, you can do this yourself, but you may be better handing this over to a specialist cyber security MSP. And if you already have an MSP, definitely get them involved in the process as they need to know the results and be involved in deciding what to do about each threat. This isn’t a one-and-done process. It’s a continuous assessment that needs to be regularly done and updated to stay ahead of cybercriminals and protect your business. TECHNOLOGIES (INDIA & SAARC), CHECK POINT.

How is the channel business? The channels have been the backbone of our go-to-market strategy. There was a brief period wherein COVID did hit all of us, even as we were trying to kind of mitigate the threats and also really trying to figure out the best way possible. But over a period of time, all of us have matured and have found a way of working, including our customers, partners, and ourselves to keep the interactions going. Business doesn’t stop, so what serves the business also doesn’t stop. Over the last 4-5 months the flow has been steadily increasing and we have seen customers starting to reinvest into some of these critical aspects of threat prevention, and building up the security walls within the organization. Technology has seen a sea change—new technologies coming to counter attacks and ransomware looming large. What do you have to offer and how are channels aligned? I will break it down into two or three different elements. Considering the geopolitical situation that India cyber security threats are significant across industry verticals. There has been a consistent rise in the number of cyberattacks, and most are ransomware and Check Point has always stayed ahead of the curve with futuristic solutions. Can you walk us through with the state of the market and a glimpse into your competitive positioning with regards to partner strategy? We are seeing a normalized work culture that existed in the pre-pandemic era, and we are seeing increased traction amongst customers. We have intensified our engagement on the back end of the revised program and doubling down on our investments with partners and pumping in a lot of money to assist in demand creation. We have an extremely strong technical base of resources and we are diverting a lot of towards partner certifications aiming to train at least 100 partner technical professionals across the country. The third aspect of our partner program rewards extends to the partner sales rep. For example, we had launched a new customer rebate program wherein for every new customer that the partner brings on the table, we have a backend rebate program to reward efforts.

The market has evolved from a traditional one to more dependent on the cloud, cloud security, SaaS, zero trust and stuff like that. Now, are you seeing similar kind of evolution among partners? We are seeing loads of customers moving towards the Cloud and it’s a continuous journey for customers. Majority of customers are in a hybrid structure with a part of their infrastructure still residing within their own premises. Check Point has also evolved its product portfolio to have a very specific set of cloud security solutions including network security; coverage for cloud deployments; posture management. A lot of applications are being developed for the cloud and our effort is to shift left and work with organizations to embed cloud security solutions into the application itself. Check Point’s CloudGuard comprises a suite of security solutions in the cloud domain.

DATA SOVEREIGNTY   //  Q&A

DATA SOVEREIGNTY IS OBVIOUSLY A BIG ONE AS PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THEIR DATA IS CRITICAL Anthony Spiteri leads Service Provider products and partners program at Veeam. Speaking to Enterprise IT World, Spiteri talks about the product line up, the outlook of the company and the role Veeam has played in pushing Cloud adoption. In an interview with Enterprise IT, he speaks about a range of issues including Katan10, partner program, back up and data recovery for containers and for open-source platforms. Read on to know more the company’s initiatives…

We are never going to pretend to be a company that will say say it can detect

ransomware beforehand because that’s almost impossible.

Why do you think the migration from VMware to Red Hat environment taking place? The open source and the cloud native world has made people more aware about different software available in the market and Red Hat obviously played very well in that space. They have Openshift, OpenStack and Red Hat virtualization platform. The Red Hat Virtualize is based on KVM, that’s one reason. The second is people are saying that VMware is becoming too expensive and it’s difficult to justify the cost anymore. Customers and CIOs are moving back from public to private cloud owing to hypervisors and the availability of new technologies. Is Veeam marking this lc as well? Yes, I began to see this shift five plus years ago when I worked for a service provider. The shift is more about the technology available on premises now and if you can get the same sort of experience in terms of consuming services on premises, then why go to a cloud if it costs more. The rise of infrastructure as code, API’s, automation, and software as a service has also driven a lot of people back to on premises. That’s where the multi cloud

comes into play. Data sovereignty is obviously a big one as people understand their data is critical and in certain regions regulatory or otherwise, people want to keep their data on premises. I also believe people have just gotten used to the fact that they can have the best of both worlds these days. So you’re of the opinion that it will be a hybrid one? Absolutely, hybrid multi cloud. Public cloud players pushed a lot of their marketing on moving from capex to opex but effectively today, everything is as a service—even at Veeam, we’ve moved to month by month billing for a lot of our services. So that has changed the dynamic so that argument doesn’t hold anymore. While your roadmap for 2021 includes multiple products, is Veeam Availability Suite version 11a the primary focus for the brand? Yes. That’s right. Everything kind of focuses on that. We wouldn’t be anything without the Veeam Availability Suite because that is central to everything that we do from a hypervisor perspective. But make no mistake, the backup for public cloud

is equally important to us as we feel that hasn’t been tapped as yet. The growth of Kubernetes container technologies is very evident. Which one is important to Veeam? The short answer is every platform. Kasten K10 is beautiful because it installs across almost every Kubernetes platform including Red Hat Openshift, IBM Cloud and other public cloud. Kasten K10 is a Kubernetes deployment, so it deploys as an application inside Kubernetes with multiple containers and the product is portable. Here’s a question on behalf of the CIOs. When a service provider releases new update its challenging for customers to upgrade immediately. Customers complain VM is not supportive of the newer version. What are your thoughts? Generally, any software that upgrades pose challenges and a lot of planning goes into new updates by a company. FORTIGUARD LABS PREDICTS CYBERATTACKS AIMED AT EVERYTHING FROM CRYPTO WALLETS TO SATELLITE INTERNET 26 ENTERPRISE IT WORLD    NOVEMBER 2021

FORTIGUARD //  SECURITY

Fortinet, a global leader in broad, integrated, and automated cybersecurity solutions, today unveiled predictions from the FortiGuard Labs global threat intelligence and research team about the cyberthreat landscape for 2022 and beyond. Cyber adversaries are evolving and expanding their attack methods to target new areas for exploit spanning the entire attack surface especially as work-from-anywhere continues. They are looking to maximize opportunity from the 5G-enabled edge, to the core network, home, and even satellite internet in space. The forwardlooking trends reveal strategies FortiGuard Labs anticipates cyber adversaries will leverage going forward, along with recommendations that will help defenders prepare to protect against these oncoming attacks. Michael Joseph, Director System Engineering, India & SAARC, Fortinet“Cybercriminals are evolving and becoming more like traditional APT groups; zero-day equipped, destructive, and able to expand their techniques as needed to achieve their goals. We will see attacks spanning further outside of the extended network, even into space, as attackers take advantage of a fragmented perimeter, siloed teams and tools as well as a greatly expanded attack surface. These threats will leave overwhelmed IT teams scrambling to cover every possible avenue of attack. To combat these evolving threats, organizations need to adopt a Security Fabric platform founded on cybersecu-

rity mesh architecture.” A Security Fabric Platform Founded on Cybersecurity Mesh Architecture The perimeter has become more fragmented and cybersecurity teams often operate in silos. At the same time, many organizations are transitioning to a multi-cloud or hybrid model. All of these factors create a perfect storm for cybercriminals to take a holistic, sophisticated approach. Cybersecurity mesh architecture integrates security controls into, and across, widely distributed networks and assets. Together with a Security Fabric approach, organizations can benefit from an integrated security platform that secures all assets on-premises, in the data center, and in the cloud or at the edge. Defenders will need to plan ahead now by leveraging the power of AI and machine Learning (ML) to speed threat prevention, detection, and response. Advanced endpoint technologies like endpoint detection and response (EDR) can help to identify malicious threats based on behaviour. Also, zero-trust network access (ZTNA) will be critical for secure application access to extend protections to mobile workers and learners, while Secure SD-WAN is important to protect evolving WAN edges. In addition, segmentation will remain a foundational strategy to restrict lateral movement of cybercriminals inside a network and to

keep breaches restricted to a smaller portion of the network. Actionable and integrated threat intelligence can improve an organization’s ability to defend in real time as the speed of attacks continues to increase. Meanwhile across all sectors and types of organizations, shared data and partnership can enable more effective responses and better predict future techniques to deter adversary efforts. Aligning forces through collaboration should remain prioritized to disrupt cybercriminal supply chain efforts before they attempt to do the same. ORACLE CLOUD INFRASTRUCTURE  //  Q&A

WE CONTINUE TO EXPAND OUR FOOTPRINT OF ORACLE CLOUD INFRASTRUCTURE Why is hybrid cloud emerging as the go-to IT infrastructure model for businesses? Business and Technology have become deeply intertwined. In the rapidly changing business landscape, organizations are becoming more technology-smart to both stay ahead of the competition as well as remain relevant to customers. They are increasingly embracing hybrid cloud strategies to protect earlier investments in technology, while creating a shorter, faster runway for innovation, with the cloud. They are realizing that a hybrid cloud strategy can help them scale faster and better, given the public cloud’s innovative and flexible services. Further, organizations are also benefiting from superior economics, more choice, greater agility, improved regulatory compliance, and much stronger business resilience overall. Why are more and more Indian organizations betting on a hybrid cloud strategy? A hybrid cloud model offers Indian enterprises the ability to remain agile, innovate faster and introduce new products/services to their end consumers quickly, giving them the time-to-market advantage. Further, aspects like deployment choice and auto-scalability offered by a hybrid cloud model are helping Indian organizations focus more on their core business – and leave IT management to the experts i.e., cloud providers like Oracle. Advanced, automated security is another key factor, as the tech provider is responsible for regular, timely updates. For example, the flexibility of cloud deployment models we offer via our next-generation cloud infrastructure is helping Indian enterprises remain fully compliant with regulatory requirements. Another key factor is predictable and transparent pricing. With IT

budgets under rising scrutiny, using a hybrid cloud approach helps enterprises save significantly on IT CAPEX and instead use the most modern, secure, enterprise-class technologies via an OPEX, pay-per-use model. What’s Oracle’s approach to delivering hybrid cloud solutions to enterprises? We continue to expand our footprint of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) public and Government cloud regions worldwide. Some of our other offerings that enterprises can take advantage of, to design the right hybrid cloud strategy, include: Oracle Roving Edge Infrastructure: This is our newest hybrid cloud offering within OCI. With this, we are bringing core infrastructure services to the edge with our Roving Edge Devices (REDs). These are ruggedized, portable, scalable server nodes. Using this, organizations gain the capability to run cloud workloads wherever they need them, even in the remotest locations globally. Oracle Cloud VMware Solution: Using this, a number of large and mid-size banks in India are already realizing the benefits of OCI’s dedicated, cloud-native VMware-based environment. This is helping them retain a high level of control. Auto scalability and lower costs are two other aspects resonating very well with our customers in India. Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer: With this offering, an enterprise can avail all capabilities typically offered via a public cloud region, but they are delivered right inside their own premises. In effect, enterprises get the very same complete set of modern cloud services Oracle offers, APIs, industry-leading SLAs, greater price-performance benefits, and advanced security – but more importantly, within their own

datacenters. A lot of large enterprises are finding this to be a very compelling proposition. Oracle Exadata continues to remain one of your best-selling products within Oracle’s Hybrid Cloud Systems portfolio. Tell us about the latest innovations in the Exadata family. Yes, Oracle Exadata platform continues to be the number one, trusted enterprise data management platform in India. Most of the country’s largest enterprises – from sectors such as BFSI and telecom, amongst others – rely on this platform to keep their business up and running smoothly. Using this platform, our customers are gaining high-performance data management capabilities directly, within their own datacenters. In addition to helping enterprises address requirements for strict data sovereignty and security by securely maintaining data on their own premises, it also offers them the advantage of operational management by virtue of an OCI-managed cloud service. One of the key highlights is, once provisioned, these databases can remain fully operational – even when they are disconnected from the cloud. Further, by choosing optional Oracle Autonomous Database capabilities, enterprises get to eliminate up to 80% of manual database operations. On the one hand, Covid has accelerated the need for digitalization and cloud adoption. On the other, it seems to have widened the cloud skills gap further. How is Oracle helping customers tackle this? In the digital economy, we understand the need for customers to get their teams up-skilled and develop a cloud-first mindset. Also, we realize it’s imperative for our partners to be enabled with the right skill set as well. As a responsible cloud major, we understand that tens of thousands of companies and many millions of users are betting their future on OCI – by deciding to run their critical business applications and workloads on OCI. Further, with OCI emerging as one of the fastest-growing cloud platforms, we are witnessing an increased demand for OCI expertise worldwide. Given this, we are offering free OCI training, plus free certification, via Oracle University until the end of the year. Because we want to encourage many more technology professionals to progress and future-proof their careers by learning OCI for free with our expert-created training and globally recognized certification program.
