Since Coup de Grace in 2002, Orange Goblin ')/(#'()&(&#+%# a slightly new direction from their old stoner/doom classics, although !'(+*#+%25(%<(,# ')/(#0)*8(0K# remained the same: bikes, beer and babes. Happily, it appears their newest effort ?#150"8K#7"*#!'(#A).%(& keeps these in the forefront of !'(#<*()!+/(#6*"<(,,9 ='(#$*,!#!'+%8#!')!#H#%"!+<(&#)>"5!#!'(#)0>5.#-),#+!,#<0()%(*;# ."*(#*)&+"S7*+(%&0K#6*"&5<!+"%9#D*(/+"5,#)0>5.,#%(/(*#7(0!#!""# 0"S$;#>5!#!'(#&+77(*(%<(#"%#150"8K#+,#5%.+,!)@)>0(;#(,6(<+)00K# -+!'#!'(#-"*@#&"%(#!"#M(%#:)*&I,#8*"-0+%8#/"<)0,9#H!I,#%"!# necessarily a bad change, and I hope it encourages more 6("60(#!"#8+/(#b*)%8(#W">0+%#)#<')%<(9 D*"&5<!+"%#/)05(,#),+&(;#Eulogy is a good combination of the old and new Orange Goblin. The muscled riff-rocking opener eG(&#=+&(#G+,+%8I#*()00K#,'"-<),(,#!'(#."*(#<"%/(%!+"%)0#.(!)0# )%&#')*&h,"5!'(*%#*"<@#+%25(%<(,#"7#!'(+*#%(-(*#-"*@;#-'+0(# .)+%!)+%+%8#!'(#<'588+%8;#)&&+<!+/(#*+7$%8#."*(#*(.+%+,<(%!# of their Big Black days. In fact, the opening of the album is so good, in true Orange Goblin fashion, that it can be hard to continue on to the rest of the album before hitting that repeat button again.

Unfortunately, the rest of the album also rules. Eulogy easily features some of Orange Goblin’s most catchy work to date, and feels like their $*,!#*()0#>+&#7"*#,".(#*)&+"#)+*#!+.(9#='(K#60)K#-')!#!'(K#0+@(#!"# hear, and record what they like to play, which is really all anyone can ask of them. While it may stray close to “douche-rock” territory a few times, ?#150"8K#7"*#!'(#A).%(&#is a boozefueled combination of fuzzed-out, olde-school doom metal and southern-tinged hard rock that is easy to recommend to both b*)%8(#W">0+%#/(!,#)%&#%("6'K!(,#)0+@(9 pat CASSIDY
