PRODUCT DESIGN PORTFOLIO

ABOUT ME I am a third year student at Nottingham Trent Univeristy studying Furniture and Product Design BA.

I am an imaginative detail-oriented designer with excellent analytical, research and collaboration skills. Experience working with timber, polymer and alloy materials. Adept at successfully managing and coordinating group projects from concept through completion. I am hardworking and willing to take creative risks and push conceptual boundaries. Adobe Photoshop and InDesign proficiency. As a designer I am interested in creating functional but also aesthetically pleasing designs. I find my self often designing multifuntional and space saving products. This is influenced by the fact that I have grown up in London which is a highly populated city where space is often at a premium.

PROJECT BREIF

EMMA BOOTY

-Design and make a multifunctional product for small spaces. -A-Level final year breif -One academic year project

-Initial sketces exploring different ways to utilise small spaces whilst also including a chair, desk and storage. -Furniture that can be folded away will make it very easy for the user to save space in their home and move around the layout of the room when needed. -Hanging things on the wall is also a great way to store away different items and furnure because it provides more floor space which is great for small spaces.

The CompacTABLE has a pull out table and chair feature. the table folds up and is supported by a right angle frame support which also swivvels out and locks in place. The stool pulls out of the main body and then slides out of the frame. this allows it to be fully adjustable and the user can position the stool around any side of the table. Additionally, the seat base slides on and off the seat frame

This product was designed with the idea of saving space in small rooms. The way it fully folds away allows the limited space to be fully utilised and easily adapted when ever the user desires. The shelves in the centre of the unit creates a very large storage space for any items small or large. the shelves are adjustable so the user can make the gaps between the shelves bigger or smaller depending on the items they store.

PROJECT B R EIF -Design a household item in the style of EMMA BOOTY

Absolut Vodka in a way that would help them expand their brand to a new market. -First year breif. -6 week project.

I NI T I AL SKE TC H ES My initial thoughts were to include the excentric patterns and bright colours that are included throughout the designs of Absolut Vodka Bottles. I also thought it would be very interesting to make the product have glass features to bring the material of the bottles them selves into the design. I wanted them to be very abstract and eye catching.

FINAL DESIGN S K ETCH EMMA BOOTY

I chose these very bright colours as they are bold and engaging. The colours dont clash and create a great feature piece for any modern environment. The assortment of sized bubbles creates a great sense of dimention and depending on the angle you veiw the table the shape and effect of the design changes.

The breif stated that we must include an interesting joint within the design. These sketches explored different joints that I could use in the design to help secure the legs and kee the frame of the stool strong. After sketching some possible joints I had to narrow it down and produce some practice joints to help me decide which one would work best and EMMA BOOTY

be the strongest but also most interesting.

The stool could have up to 4 legs. After some sketches I deceided that I wanted to make it a three leg stool. I belive it was the most abstract and unique out of the ideation sketches so I started to develop the design of a tri leg stool. In order for the three leg design to be strong, the legs neede to be on an angle to allow the weight to be distributed evenly.

- I used these sketch models to test out the structure of the different shaped frames. - I experimented with different sizes to see how practical each type will be and how the design changes depending on the number of cereal boxes it holds. - I realised that certain designs allowed the handles to work better and create a design which is a lot more easy to use and move aound.

PROJECT BREIF -Design and model a furniture statement piece that emphasises and enhances the beauty of nature. EMMA BOOTY

-Second Year Breif -5 Week Project

- After looking at each room we decided to choose a communal area as the space to take forward. We found that the furniture within these areas was made predominantly for group work. -During the current pandemic, the need for individual workspaces is key, even after the current pandemic these kinds of spaces will be needed.

INITIAL SKETCHES

1:5 SCALE SKETCH MODELS EMMA BOOTY

- I used these sketch models to test out the structure of the different shaped frames and greenhouse features. - I tested to see how minimal I could make the design while it also being structurally sound and comfortable. - The models helped me remove ertain unnecessary features that would make the bench less practical and more expensive or heavy. .

MODEL DEVELOPMENT small greenhouse feature can work cohesively through the design. - Different shapes and sizes create different emotions and functions. Small apertures on eaither side gives free access to bees and other pollinators. This encourages bio diversity and promotes a good habitat for bees, which is vital as they are under threat.

FINAL PROTOTYPE The IncuBench was designed to encourage people to come to the National Trust sites and get them closer to nature without disturbing it. It can provide people with jobs or volunteering opportunities. It would be of particular interest for groups of children or people with learning disabilities or mental health issues.
