BOTH SIDES OF A STORY Interview with James Frey

LV: Do you enjoy interviews? JF: No, not really.

James Frey created characters who will follow you everywhere. His stories have opened mayn doors in many minds and hearts. His novel „A Million Little Pieces“ discribes his years as an alcoholic and drug abuser and started a big controversy about if it‘s true or fictitious. However. His book „Bright Shiny Morning“ is an Los Angeles epic that was so honest, even though it was fiction. James Frey is willing to take risks. His fictitious truth is sometimes very hard - still his true fiction is simply great. Here‘s Mr. Photo by Terry Richardson Frey…

LV: Most stupidest question you’ve ever been asked? JF: Not sure. Like trying to rank the best meal I’ve ever eaten or the best book I’ve ever read. There have been many, too many to choose just one. LV: With “Bright Shiny Morning” you created a real Los Angeles epic. What is your fascination about this city? JF: I love LA. It’s this vast crazy beautiful horrible unreal amazing place. It’s the cultural capital of the world, and the city that I feel is most representative of the United States. Nobody 17 had ever written a vast, highly ambitious novel about it, even though it is a city of massive myth and importance. I didn’t feel like anyone had tried to write a vast, ambitious, comprehensive book about it, so I gave it a shot.
