Women to Watch: PWR WMN

Kimberly Borges is a wife, mother, and co-founder of PWR WMN. She’s a proud Afro-Latina that loves to celebrate women in every stage of their life. Miriam McDonald is a wife and co-founder of PWR WMN. She is a proud Mexican-American immigrant that strives to bring representation and equity into women’s work wear.

Kimberly was obsessed with her mother and everything she did. She was her first super hero and still inspires her to this day. Her intensity for everything in life is something she tries to replicate in hers as well. Miriam loved female authors and looked up to their strong female characters. As a child she wanted to be Elle from Legally Blonde!

Our parents both immigrated to the USA with us when we were 7-10 years old. They instilled in us the ability to limitlessly dream and work hard. Their prime example of how literally anything is possible provided the foundation for the way we dare to dream.

We design and make blazers for women that celebrate their individuality and equips them with the pockets they deserve to be ready at all times no matter what. We sold our first blazers September 5th 2019.

We love to celebrate women in our community and try to incorporate this into our blazers as well. The lining in some of our blazers is actually artwork from local female artists that we admire. We offer inclusive sizing that is based on American women so that our needs and wants are tailored to us. We are very transparent about the ups and downs of our entrepreneurial journey and want to invite everyone into our space in which we share everything we’ve learned and are learning.

So many women have inspired us! We are so blessed to have so many women in our families be our inspiration. They are all strong willed and go getters and have certainly set a wonderful example for us. We always say that to entrepreneurship requires you to dream and proceed in spite of fear, not in the absence of it.

The fear never goes away but your confidence soon finds enough footing to stand in the face of fear and continue to pursue your dreams. Your gut instinct is just like any muscle in your body and it needs to be exercised to get stronger. Start trusting your instinct and yourself.

We have a beautiful collaboration with Emily from @chic.as.a.mother that has been so fun and has taught us so much! The set is called the “Rosé S’il Vous Plaît” and the blazer has already been released! It has truly been a labor of love and friendship and we are so proud of how its turning out! Ever since we saw Emily on her instagram @chic.as.amother we’ve been so inspired by her.

Emily is the kindest soul to be around with an energy that is both warm and bubbly and sassy and powerful! She is such a force to be reckoned with and we are so inspired how she doesn’t compromise ANY of her femininity in order to be the powerful Emily we know her to be. She is a wonderful wife, a loving mother, and the sweetest of friends and this pink velvet set is the personification of her. This set is meant for you feel luxurious and self loved even on the days you don’t even leave the house! We we’re so tired of wearing sweats and frumpy clothes everyday that we decided we were going to romanticize our life…starting with our work from home wardrobe! We wanted whoever that was wearing it to feel loved and comforted but also empowered in their femininity to call the shots from anywhere!
