Global Artistic Conflict: Russian Artists and World War I

When World War I broke out, Russian artists abroad returned home to Moscow. How they reacted to the struggle first against Germany and then with the Revolution of 1917 is the subject of this lecture. As artists dialogued with the new public philosophies that struggled for dominance, their artistic expression and conversation formed the visual dimensions of the most historic change from empire to soviet union. This lecture forms a backdrop to the tour of the exhibit on World War I at The Museum of Russian Art. An optional tours of this exhibit (led by your instructor) will be offered on Thursday, October 8 at 10:30am. Additional cost for the museum tour is $9 for adults and $7 for seniors. Sign up for this tour at the lecture. This will be a highly interactive, hands-on session; please bring your question and concerns, and be prepared to leave with MANY new ideas for helping your student prepare for this standardized test.
