An interview with
Ruby Warrington Established author and founder of the online lifestyle platform ‘The Numinous’, Ruby Warrington shares with us the origins of her interest in astrology, and what cosmic elements couples should consider when planning their wedding and honeymoon... When did you discover your interest in astrology?
I’ve been fascinated with astrology ever since I was 3, when I learnt that I was born in the year of the Dragon.
How long have you been studying astrology, and when did you start to pursue further?
I began a more serious study of astrology in 2011, while I was working at the Sunday Times Style magazine. Our resident astrologer, Shelley Von Strunckel, was my first astro-mentor.
What inspired you to start your site, Numinous?
Coming from a background in fashion magazines, I was always “in the closet” about my love of astrology, which was seen as “woo woo” and not very cool. I realized there was a gap in the market for a platform that made astrology chic, inspirational, and relevant to modern life.
You talk about all things mystical and ‘now age’ on your website, what would you describe ‘now age’ to be in this day and age?
Subjects such as astrology, tarot, meditation, and yoga, are even more relevant now than in the 1960s and 1970s when people first started talking about the “new age.” The term was used to describe the astrological Age of Aquarius, which we began transitioning into globally in the middle of the 20th Century – which means what was the “new age,” is now!
Since coming to have a cosmic understanding, how has your life been impacted personally?
I feel much more confident about making choices that are aligned with my own unique needs – which means I suffer less anxiety and have been able to pursue a career that’s truly fulfilling to me. This increased trust in myself and my path means I’ve also cut out alcohol; since I no longer need it to “fit in”, and the knock-on effect of this has impacted every area of my life.
Do you think people should consider their star signs and other mystical factors when looking for a partner and if so why?
It can be fun to look for compatibilities, but as with
everything it’s always best to go with your gut when trying to decide if a partner is “the one” for you.

Do you think couples should consider their star signs when choosing a destination for their honeymoon or wedding?
Definitely – as different signs have different needs when it comes to relaxing and having fun. One person’s beach oasis may be another’s fast track to boredom! I created a guide to honeymoon locations suited to each sign for W Hotels, which explains which signs look for what on holiday. Any successful marriage requires compromise, and taking both sign’s needs into account could be a good place to start!
What are you working on next?
This year I’ve launched my second book, Sober Curious, as well as two podcasts, and my Numinous Astro Deck came out in June. The paperback of my first book, Material Girl, Mystical World, is out in the US at the end of August, so I’m taking some time off until then! WWW.DWHA.CO.UK

Tell us about Tuscan Wedding Cakes and how you started?
What is your favourite part of the job?
When did you discover your passion for baking?
What aspects should couples consider when choosing their wedding cake?
I have this small obsession with memory; how it’s formed and how it is dearly kept in the mind. The way food engages with all of our senses inspired me to use my culinary skills to work specifically with event cakes. A cake is a medium to help time slow down, enabling to create life changing memories.
At the age of 20 I did my culinary training under Vindar Balbir in Bangkok, that experience was when I really fell in love with food. As I went through my 20’s I noticed how often life’s most precious moments are celebrated with cake. My passion grew and my main focus became how to use ‘the moment of the cake’ to connect people and amplify memory.
What has been your favourite creation so far?
I’ve done so many cakes in the past that I’ve truly loved. But my favourite, is always the one I’m working on at the moment.
What are some of the creative trends you’ve seen in a cake design that you admire?
I admire anything that takes skill and craft and there’s a lot to choose from right now. Certainly, Jasmine Rae is doing amazing things with structure and Maggie Austin plays with texture beautifully. When I started out, I was studying the work of Ron Ben-Israel and Sylvia Weinstock, who both have had a big influence on me; especially in terms of grandeur and florals. Most of my clients are looking for designs that are both impressive and speak to the natural beauty of the landscape surrounding their wedding. On my cakes you’ll find a lot of intricate piping, clean edges, beautiful florals and small details taken from beautiful Tuscan art and architecture.
There’s this quiet thing that happens when I’m working on a cake as it starts to come to life. Sometimes it’s just the addition of one small detail, but in that moment, I can see what the cake will become and what it’s going to mean for my couple and their guests. The moment when it’s just me and the cake and I’m working to get it right, is magic.
Firstly, a sense of place is important. Where the wedding is going to take place? What will the rest of the wedding details look like? Are we at a Tuscan farmhouse or a Grand Palace? These are significant considerations. Flavour is also very important. I design my cakes to awaken all your senses, so taste and smell are crucial. For a cake to memorable, it has to taste amazing, as well as be stunningly presentable. Ideally, I want my couples and their guests to see the cake from afar and be shocked by its beauty. “As they arrive, they should be welcomed by the aroma of vanilla or lemon or wild strawberries. As the couple lifts the knife to cut the cake, that sense of weight in their hands and the knife going through the cake, the sound of the guests clapping and finally that perfect delicious bite. When all of that is right, memories are created. Without a doubt, unforgettable memories are made when the cake tastes wonderful!”
What are the biggest lessons you have learned and would pass onto other cake designers getting started?
Perfection doesn’t exist. Keep trying to be 10% better, relentlessly. The amount of hours you spend training matters, so you must work hard. In my off season I usually commit 4 hours a day to training, as there’s always room to grow. WWW.DWHA.CO.UK

Le Sereno St Barth’s Following Hurricane Irma in 2017, luxe hotel Le Sereno St. Barth’s recently reopened its lavish doors and welcomed back guests
T
he Contreras family, decided to demolish and to completely rebuild from scratch a significant part of the property, including more than half the rooms and all the public spaces, while maintaining the iconic style of Le Sereno which has a devoted following amongst guests. In the true spirit of ‘plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose’, the original team that created Le Sereno has been reassembled to undertake a complete rebuild, while keeping the essence of the hotel intact. An intimate beachfront property located on the ultra-private Grand Cul de Sac, a protected coral reef that is popular for kitesurfing, paddle boarding and snorkelling, Le Sereno has long beckoned travellers for its contemporary design and understated luxury service.
Private Luxury
The iconic and much-Instagrammed pool at Le Sereno overlooking the Grand Cul de Sac retains the same look. The lobby building with its picturesque red doors will also continue to greet guests and each of the three, 7,000 square foot, four-bedroom Villas retain their muchlauded design, while the interiors have been refurbished and the private pools will now be heated. In keeping with the Sereno Hotels philosophy of building, owning and operating intimate, design-driven hotels in highly desired destinations, the next phase of Le Sereno St. Barth’s will truly up the ante in the Caribbean with every room being touched with a fresh design. For the entirely brand-new Bungalow Piscine rooms the designer “flipped” the previous parquet floors and white ceiling and now the ceiling is made of intricate oak carpentry while the floors feature warm white stone. New corner couches have been designed to fit seamlessly into the room and the ceilings are open and airy with an extended height of 11 feet at their peak. The open-concept bathrooms will be air-conditioned, and feature custom made Iroko wood, oak and stone vanities. The Grand Suite Plage Sud rooms were demolished and rebuilt with entirely new finishings, a private garden with outdoor bathtubs and

the floorplans have been reworked to allow for more living space. The waterfront Grand Suite Plage rooms, the heart of Le Sereno, now features new interiors, new technology, fantastic new furnished waterfront terraces, and a walkable garden in front of the suite entrances, to enhance the guest experience. The Spa at Le Sereno has been expanded and now includes three full treatment rooms, including the guest favourite waterfront pavilion, a coveted space for relaxation and the island’s only beachfront treatment room. In-room spa services are also available. The new fitness room boasts the latest fitness technology and equipment. In between the spa and fitness facilities is a new garden that provides a serene space for guests to practice yoga or meditation. The central heartbeat of the hotel is Restaurant Le Sereno, which unveiled a new look, while still maintaining 180-degree views of Grand Cul de Sac. Her favourite part about this beautiful bouquet was that all of the greenery you see is from her own backyard. This gave it that romantic, secret garden, hand tied bouquet look that is just stunning
The garden and exterior grounds are 16,000 sq. ft., while the warehouse is 4,300 sq. ft. This provides so many different layouts that every affair is special and unique unto itself. The location instantly gave us major secret garden vibes with a touch of glamour. THE COUPLE Elya & Emilio Elya and Emilio celebrated their love on the charming Amalfi Coast
M
y husband, Emilio, proposed to me on a boat looking onto Positano just the year before. Italy became such a special place in our hearts and we wanted to continue our love story there. The Amalfi Coast is dreamy, charming and absolutely breathtaking! The people there are warm and so inviting – these are qualities we value so much and it was important to us to keep that energy alive. We wanted this to be about family, about love, about togetherness, great laughs, and the best memories. Our wedding in Italy was rooted in what mattered to us most and that is what made it all the more special – family and love! When it came to choosing the venue, we were fortunate enough to have a wonderful wedding planner that understood the vision for our wedding. She would send through so many options of locations that spanned the Amalfi Coast and after going back and forth with so many beautiful options, we ultimately chose a gorgeous villa that housed all of our guests. This gave us the time to not only spend with our guests but also to get to know the villa, the staff and iron out any last-minute details we needed to with our wedding planner. Our wedding planning team did an incredible job transforming our venue into an epic dreamscape. It was important to me to incorporate touches of Italy in our colour palette, which included olive branches and fresh greenery. I kept the colours classic – white and hints of blush with fresh greenery from the region. For our reception, we planned on one very long dinner table with a gorgeous long table runner made out of fresh greenery and florals.
I wore a sleek, modern and sophisticated gown by Anne Barge for my ceremony. We did a pre-shoot with our photographer on a boat headed to Positano to capture the beauty of the Amalfi Coast. This classic and modern gown brought the drama of the sea to life in the most beautiful way! I think having really high expectations and letting your emotions get the best of you when something doesn’t turn out as planned can be a challenge. Making sure that all of your vendors essentially understand and can support the vision you have for your wedding is key. Having a wedding planner who understood our vision and aesthetic was crucial for us. She was incredibly dedicated, thorough and hard working. This made it so much easier to execute our ideas and bring our dream wedding to life.

THE COUPLE Alex & Mikey Alex and Mikey tied the knot on the golden coast of Gran Canaria
A
lex and I met in Gran Canaria during Pride Week in 2016. I decided to get my friend and I a couple of shots at the bar and after I ordered, my friend had vanished, so I turned to the next guy at the bar and said – “Drink that!” This man would then turn out to be my husband! So, we knew Gran Canaria would be the perfect fit for us. Choosing our wedding and reception venue proved to be the only difficulty. We knew that we wanted to get married in Gran Canaria but didn’t know the area well enough to select a venue on our own. After hearing so many positive reviews about The Perfect Wedding Company we contacted them and they were able to provide the ideal venue based on our needs – Anfis heart shaped Island. We also made an effort to keep costs down, we had a budget in mind and wanted to stick to this. The Perfect Wedding Company were very respective of this and tailored a package to suit our dream day. Closer to the time we bent the budget a little bit at our request but it was all worth it! When it came to our attire, we wanted to have the same style of suits just in different colours, we tried on so many but the shops did not have the same style that fitted both of us how we wanted. In the end we ordered our suits from Suitopia.com and after some alterations they were perfect down to every last detail including a red lining to match the rose petals that were scattered all over our venue. Even though we take pride in our appearance we are quite low maintenance with our beauty looks so we did our own hair and a little bit of makeup (a little bit more make up for Mikey!) The venue was clean and simple with a floral arch filled with red roses and some greenery, and red roses scattered down the aisle. We dressed our chairs for the guests with white linen tied with a red bow. For the evening ceremony we covered the venue with candles and of course, red roses! We wanted to incorporate red roses into our wedding, because when I was travelling for work for the first year in our relationship, Alex would always meet me at the airport with a single red rose, so this was significant to us. The thing that I would recommend most about having a wedding planner is that they really allow you to enjoy the process and run up to your wedding. On the day and night they were always at hand to help with everything, the service could not have been faulted and every single guest commented on how great the team was. I will be eternally grateful for Bernadette and her team at The Perfect Wedding Company for making our day and the process beforehand so special.

THE COUPLE Valishti and Lomas Valishti and Lomas said their nuptials on the breathtaking tropical island of Trinidad and Tobago
T
he twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago are popular choices for destination weddings. Luckily, I get to call this beautiful place home. In addition to the beautiful tropical climate, having my wedding in my home country allowed most of my loved ones to join me in celebrating the most important day of my life! There were very few places in Trinidad that could accommodate a guest list of 500 but still provide a very spiritual and peaceful ambience to our wedding ceremony. The moment I arrived at Dattatreya Yoga Centre for a site visit, I immediately knew that this venue was the one. The intricacy of the hand carved architecture took me back to my days in Jaipur, India and the various hues of pink that adorned the interior of the religious hall, blended so well with the décor I had envisioned for my wedding ceremony. I wore three outfits at my wedding ceremony; each bearing its unique story. My first outfit was very non-traditional with respect to colour. And I loved that! I am a traditional person but still different. And that outfit represented that quality in me. I randomly saw it at CTC Wedding Mall in New Delhi, India. The moment I wore it, I knew it had to be incorporated into my wedding! My red outfit represents my traditions and culture. This outfit was designed by Tarun Tahiliani. I fell in love with it instantly! My third outfit was what I called my “princess outfit.” It is the most jaw-dropping piece of Indian ethnic wear I have ever laid my eyes on. The colour, the design and the silhouette was all very fairytale-like. The designer of this masterpiece was Sulakshana Monga and I was a lucky bride to have Mrs Monga herself do my consultation and fitting! On the day of the makeup trial, I knew Dilya would be the vendor of choice as she listened to my concerns and requests and executed it perfectly. For my hair, I envisioned a very feminine up-do which is exactly what Camille delivered. I was in awe on seeing how beautifully she styled my low up-do and adorned it with mini fuchsia roses. Blushes, golds and ivories made my colour palette; I was inspired by my love for florals! It was an unconventional choice of colours for a hindu wedding which contributed to the uniqueness of the décor. The colour palette was also the main reason why I was drawn towards my designer, as over the years I have followed many beautiful floral themed weddings executed by the design genius, Jennifer Goberdhan.

The skin in all images is dewy which is very on trend and ideal for when you’re in the sun so you’re not fighting to stay matte. This is balanced with glossy lips which further add to the glow of the look. Lashes are the best friend of a bohemian bride because one thing you can’t get away from is that bohemian breaks the mould of the overly thought out bridal look; lashes add that stand out feel that a bride needs without doing too much and I think 3D mink lashes are a great choice. I think it’s perhaps more polished than bohemian would typically imply, however, I wanted to shift away from the idea that bohemian confines you to a DIY feel and is the opposite to Haute Couture/High Fashion. I think of these looks as somewhere in-between; rather than the expected floral hair wreath, I used dried confetti petals to create a more delicate take on bohemian look. Some are glued to hair pins and some are just sprinkled.

How do you ensure that the planning process is smooth and enjoyable?
I love the fact that every day is a different adventure and I even love the roller coaster of ups and downs. The fact of the matter is that we get to meet and build relationships with incredible people, both clients and suppliers, and even if the process can be difficult at times, the conclusion is always a happy one. And there’s absolutely no better feeling than knowing that you made that happen.
We always assess our clients’ needs and what style they would prefer us to adopt, such as fully in charge, involving them a lot, etc. We never impose and always adapt and are flexible: it’s key in our industry. We also always make sure to be available to our clients and listen to them, no matter what their concerns may be. At the end of the day, we have to seamlessly slot into their relationship to be as effective as possible!
How do you tailor your services to be bespoke to every couple?
Our first meeting is mainly to understand more about our couples, so who they really are, how they met, etc. We also take time to understand not just their love story,
What’s your favourite part of being an event planner?
What’s the biggest lesson you have learned and would pass along to other planners getting started?

Mason’s Great Events Co Creating weddings full of love, laughter and fun, Mason’s Great Event Co, promises to bring your weddings dreams to life. Sandie Chivers, founder of Mason’s Great Event’s shares with us her journey and what makes them so unique... How long have you been a wedding and events planner and how did you get into the industry?
I began wedding planning in 2015 after finishing my Diploma Level 3 at an Open University. I always knew that I wanted to run my own business and when I got married myself, I wondered how much easier it would have been if someone was to have done it for me. I began doing my research and found my love for it there. I love sharing the special day with the bride and groom; watching two people become one has got to be the most favourite part of my job.
How long before their wedding date should the couple contact you?
We usually recommend as soon as they have set a date. But we can and have planned weddings up to 6 months before the wedding date itself.
How do you tailor your services to be bespoke to every couple?
We offer standard packages for every client but these are then tailored by each couple. Some brides and grooms like to be involved as much as possible and others feel more comfortable knowing it is being dealt with solely by someone else, and just making the final choices. But this is mainly down to time.
How would you describe your style and approach?
I am quite an easy person to talk to and try to make all my clients feel at ease. I have found if I go in really formal this can actually put a lot of people off, I am very laid back and work hard at my job and I find the two go very well together. It’s about taking the time to get to know your clientele.
What is your favourite part of the day?
I have to say the speeches, I have heard some in my years of doing this and they have been very funny and very different to every person. I have to say I’ve cried on a few Father of the Bride speeches.
Why do you think couples should choose to hire a wedding planner? Some people think that hiring a wedding planner is expensive but actually it isn’t and doesn’t have to be, if you find the right one that you click with and the price is right, you should never look back. Having a wedding planner may seem like it’s pointless. But, when it comes to organising the day itself, it can become quite stressful for the couple and their families because you then find time gets away from you and most things haven’t been arranged for set up or confirmed. Wedding planners give you the ability to relax and enjoy your day.
What tips would you give to someone aspiring to break into the wedding industry?
Be ready for hard work, I’ve met a lot of young girls wishing to break into the wedding planning industry, but actually this industry can break you. It takes a long time so be ready to plough as much time you have in to it. Sacrifice the nights out with the friends, sacrifice the little bit of money you thought you had and be ready for coffee and a lot of it. Even after 4/5 years doing this I am still working until early hours getting the next booking.
How do you ensure that the process is smooth What’s the best moment you’ve had as a and pleasant? wedding planner? I make sure that I am available as much as I possibly can be to each of my clients. I make them aware that any worries they have, are dealt with and I also keep very close contact with all parties involved.
