ALUMNI AMBASSADOR SCHEME

DURHAM UNIVERSITY BUSINESS SCHOOL

ALUMNI AMBASSADOR SCHEME As one of the UK’s longest established business schools we are proud of our prestigious foundations and international recognition. Our alumni network is a direct connection to a thriving community of more than 12,000 people in over 100 countries. Being part of an active global network can be extremely satisfying. Here at Durham, we strive to expand and continually strengthen that network. In order to continue to improve the experience for our students as well as the international reputation of the School we call upon you, our biggest supporters, to become our ambassadors. Engaging with the School and giving your time to support some of our key activities can be really inspiring and enhances the student and alumni experience. We have seven important ways in which alumni and other friends of Durham University Business School can play a valuable role as Ambassadors.

“I believe the International Chapter in China is one of the best solutions to keep attracting, igniting and developing our Durham graduates through our ‘Leading Edge Career Expert Panel’ events and charity work. I am inspired by the fire in our graduates’ eyes every time I talk to them. That increases my passion and belief in the value of alumni network and I think all alumni should get involved in some way.”

Ocean Wang - MBA 2008/09 Leadership & Talent Consultant, Korn Ferry International

“A business consultancy project was one of the ways I could be in touch with my business school as well as showcase to my company a piece of work that would bring fresh ideas and recommendations to a specific company goal without stretching my internal resources”

Kiran Ramakrishna - MBA 2011/12 Business Development Manager at EDIT-PLACE

WAYS TO GIVE BACK MENTORING

EXPANDING THE NETWORK

COMMUNICATIONS

At Durham University Business School we run a virtual mentoring scheme whereby members of the alumni community volunteer to support a current student. This is an invaluable way for alumni to impart their experience and knowledge and for students to expand their networks.

We currently have over 20 alumni associations worldwide. These groups meet on a regular basis with the support of the alumni team. You can participate in these events by joining your International Chapter, or becoming a leader and setting up a group in your area.

Contributions from alumni are essential in keeping the network connected. If you have a story, a piece of research or wish to fill out an alumni profile for our e-newsletter, magazine or website, please email us. PR opportunities for the school, both nationally and internationally, are also welcomed.

CAREERS & BUSINESS CONNECTIONS

STUDENT RECRUITMENT

EVENTS

Careers support is a fundamental aspect of our students’ development. Whether you can provide job opportunities or work shadowing days, source internships or business projects, or arrange mock interviews, current students and recent graduates are grateful for your valued support.

As an Ambassador you can represent the School at student recruitment fairs across the world, providing insight to prospective students. We also hope that you will be open to contact requests from students who have queries about a particular programme or life in Durham in general.

“I would strongly recommend any aspiring executive to allocate time to mentoring. DUBS provide excellent training and advice and I found the experience very rewarding and highly transferable to the work environment.”

Mark Clement - MBA 2010/12 Senior Consultant at Medi Science Consultants

We run a series of speaker, networking, social and charity events and ask our alumni to help make these a success. As well as attending these events, we require alumni to host events and help the school source venues around the world. We also invite alumni to speak to current students on a range of topical business issues and share stories of their own Durham experience.

FUNDRAISING FOR THE FUTURE Valued philanthropic income enables the School to maintain momentum and do more to stand out from our competitors and add real value to the student experience. We would welcome financial contributions towards student prizes, scholarships and sponsorships of key events and activities.
