A MESSAGE FROM JEDDAH SEASON OFFICE Each time I walk by the waterfront, or one of Jeddah’s historical events catches my eye on social media, or my teenage kids go to their favorite international artists’ concert, my heart can’t help but dance with my love for Jeddah.

I thought I was alone in my renewed love for the Bride of the Red Sea, as the locals call the city, until I met with my colleagues at the Seasons committee. Besides everyone being busy with various tasks, we all bonded through our love for Jeddah. Our goal was to put the city of Jeddah and the Red Sea along with its cultural heritage on the map in order to be the number one tourist attraction and summer destination within the Kingdom as well as globally. The Season’s office has

been packed with Jeddah’s professionals working day and night nonstop in order to produce the best experience. We will ensure that this season’s events will appear in five different areas around the city. It starts with the waterfront promenade, which holds many surprises and international restaurants and stems all the way to Al Hamra, with the promise of theatrical and musical performances. Then, we have Jeddah’s historical area which is one of the national tourist sites listed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. On the other end of the city we have Obhur, filled with unique marine experiences and water activities the city has never seen before. And lastly we have Al Johara, the jewel of sports entertainment bridging the gap between excitement and art in the city of Jeddah.
Jeddah’s season is important to the Kingdom’s growth. According to the Council for Economic Affairs and Development, this particular season aims to transform the Kingdom into one of the most important tourist destinations in the world. Our season will be an opportunity to draw global attention to Jeddah, and point out the city’s social and cultural diversity. We want to see the impact of this season’s events and activities engage locals as well as visitors from a variety of cities and countries. Season’s hope is to make Jeddah one
of the most important tourism destinations worldwide. From the bottoms of our hearts, we invite you to join us in this season’s events with hopes that it will be the first of many our city will encounter. A message to the world, wait for us.

THE CREATIVE & SUMMER CAPITAL A Wealth of Fun Under the Sun
A famous myth claims that the first woman to have ever stepped foot on this earth landed in Jeddah. “Jiddah”, with an accentuated D, as locals would pronounce it, is one of the largest, most diverse, and culturally rich towns in Makkah province, Saudi Arabia. The word is a transliteration of the Arabic word meaning grandmother, referring to Eve who is locally believed to have been laid to rest in the town. Jeddah is also known as the Bride of the Red Sea. It’s located on the West of the Kingdom, along the Mid East Coast of the Red Sea (known as the Tihama Plains). It is the 6 JEDDAH SEASON 2019
largest seaport for the Red Sea, handling the majority of Saudi’s commercial movement. Its coral reef wealth is mesmerizing, and a magnet for avid divers. Jeddah is the main gateway to the two holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, and because of the pilgrimage seasons along with being part of various land and sea trade routes, it’s the most diverse city in the Kingdom. It is a perfectly tossed cultural salad; where identities mesh and disperse. Jeddah also prides itself as being the country’s creative hub-- home to dozens of art galleries, local artists,
and having its own open air museum of sculptures to boot. Historic Jeddah (Al Balad) is a trip back in time, characterized by distinctive houses built by 19th century mercantile elites, and the Gates to Makkah are UNESCO world heritage sites. GUIDE TO JEDDAH WATERFRONT (JWF) Catch some sun, fun, and some Jeddah good vibes. The Jeddah Waterfront that extends along in the in-city coast of the Red Sea is considered to be one of the must visit spots. The New Corniche, as Jeddawis call it, is where locals go for family picnics, watch the waves, and just chill. GUIDE TO AL JOHARA Nicknamed ‘The Shining Jewel’, Al Johara stadium is a sports fan’s wildest dreams come to life. The stadium is found in the King Abdullah Sports City (KASC), which is the first full blown sports entertainment city located north of Jeddah. Al Johara holds nearly 62,000 people making it the biggest stadium on Saudi Arabia’s west coast, and the 10th biggest in the Arab world. The old doors and windows in AlBalad will take your breath away, known for their vibrant colors and patterns. Visit Nasseef House on Suq Al Alawi St, a historically significant building that has been turned into a museum and cultural center. Apart from its own history, it also depicts Makkah’s through the years.
While taking a stroll in AlBalad, practice your photography skills. With its unique architecture, to food, and streets; you will definitely find something to capture.
Right before Maghrib (sundown) prayer, make sure you get to the rooftًop of Al Nasseef, to watch the sunset over AlBalad, with the beautiful sounds of Athan (call to prayer).
The Jeddah Municipality Museum is a must-visit after Al Nasseef. Occupying an old building that has been restored, this museum displays vintage antiques and cultural items that date back to thousands of years. If you have time, try to stop by Al Shafe’i Mosque, which is one of the most famous mosques in the area.
