FEELING RIYADH’S PULSE IN
LOMAR AND ONQOUD’S NABD By Johara Almogbel
Stepping into Raffles Institute, we are automatically greeted with thought-provoking imagery. A shmaagh, both stiff and fluid, is hung on the wall opposite a gorgeous fuchsia print of Arabic calligraphy exiting mid-movement from a man’s head. Next to them, an embroidered photo of whirling dervishes patiently waits for people to recognize its genius. A group of wooden geometric circles rounds it out nicely. It’s eclectic. We’re impressed and we hadn’t even managed to make it past the reception area yet.
Wandering around the second gallery, it’s apparent Lomar and Onqoud’s collaboration is thus far shaping up to be a wonderful creativity fair. Asides from the group art exhibition, which featured the work of 19 artists using different mediums, Nabd also hosted multiple activities including a local designs showcase featuring works and products by local designers, workshops for adults and children, and art talks that exhibited Saudi artists and initiatives.

As a creativity fair, Nabd aimed to unleash the artist within everyone and help them build their creative confidence by introducing them to new ideas and points of view.
The fair was inaugurated by Loai Naseem, designer and founder of Lomar, and was attended by a number of socialites and social media influencials including poet Saeed Al Manea, social media icon Mohammad Al Nehait, and members of Telfaz 11 team.
Nabd’s beginning needed a theme that focuses on

With that in mind, “Wejhat Nathar” was chosen as the theme for this year. The beauty behind ‘point of view’ lies in the fact that it is one of the most essential parts of the human experience; it is something we are all familiar with because we all have a viewpoint. (Especially here in DR, where we like to share that viewpoint with everyone as many times as possible).
