These are then used in the production of exquisite perfumes made by the likes of Givenchy, Estée Lauder, Valentino, and Gurlain.

While there’s much speculation regarding the origins of the crater, geologists agree that it came from an eruption that caused groundwater to come into contact with hot lava. Being a good 250km away from Taif, this destination will be a memorable road trip. Take a journey in the daylight and enjoy the hike around the top to see all the unique rock formations. It takes around an hour to get to the bottom of the crater, as it’s 250m deep.

Mountain Climbing in Saudi Conquer the Wall of Shadows this Summer at Tanomah

SHARE YOUR POST using #tanomah_dksa

26 SUMMER SPECIAL

Tanomah is quickly becoming a must-visit destination for climbers. The rock is easily accessible and provides a comfortable camping site for those who wish to stay for longer periods. The weather stays cool and favorable all year in the summer at 2,000m altitude, with different options for sun and shade coverage. The Wall of Shadows is located in the Al Sharaf park, just ten minutes from the center of Tanomah, and it only takes a ten minute walk Equipping at the Wall of Shadows was undertaken by the Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation during the second phase of the Saudi Bolting Project in 2019. The team consisted of project leader and author, Read Macadam, Mountain Guide Piergiorgio Lotito, and accomplished climber Alex Ruscior along with Federation’s board member and climber Abdulrahman Alabdu. The team managed to equip 40 pitches. The stone at Wall of Shadows is solid quartzite infusions. The climbing differs from the initial crag, Al Sharaf, in that it is entirely in the shade and therefore comfortable to climb all day and year-round. The style of climbing at Wall of Shadows ranges from immaculate slabs to steep physical climbing on pockets. Because it is in the shade, moss and lichen grow quite quickly. Please bring your brush to keep the lichen at bay, as well as to brush your excess chalk.

ABOUT SAUDI ARABIA Saudi Arabia is rich in traditions, history, and culture. Established in 1932, the Kingdom is home to business leaders, young entrepreneurs, and technological innovators. The Kingdom is ruled by King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Saudi Arabia is one of the most diverse nations in the Middle East, comprised of 13 regions, each with its own culture, traditions, and people that share unique histories and landscapes. The North is famous for its wonderful weather, while the East and West boast of coasts and beaches. At the Center is the heart and soul of the nation, Riyadh—and Saudi Arabia is the synthesis of all of these.

Important contacts to keep on hand in the event of an emergency. Here’s a list of hotline numbers, in case you encounter an emergency situation along the road. Stay safe and bon voyage! COVID-19 HOTLINE Tel: 977 Whatsapp assistance: 920005937 App: mawidapp (iPhone and Android)

SAFETY The Kingdom is considered one of the safest countries to live in because of the constant climatic conditions, the low crime rate, and the government’s sustained efforts to continue improving the quality of life.

AMBULANCE

CLIMATE

Tel: 997 App: Saudi Red Crescent Authority (iPhone only)

Saudi Arabia has a predominantly desert climate, characterized by high daytime temperatures, and low night time temperatures. In the Spring, around May, the thermometer in the North will drop below 15 degrees. The Center and South tend to be warmer, with night temperatures averaging 20 degrees. Most rainfall usually falls in the Center and Southwest, in the area of the Asir Mountains. In most parts of the country, Summer arrives with an increase in heat. In the Southwest highlands, the heat is somewhat alleviated by the mountains. Autumn brings temperate climate and cool winds in the North and Southwest. The winter nights are pleasant and cool.
