INTRODUCTION

This sixth volume in the Current Masters series presents 72 supremely talented contemporary artists. We believe that their work will become much sought after by collectors and museums. In some cases, it already is. While the United States is well-represented in this book with 32 artists hailing from these shores or living there, 22 other countries are also represented, covering almost every region of the globe. So, as in all our other books, this one too is a truly global display of artistic talent. While painting has pride of place, this book also features some sublimely beautiful sculpture, photography, drawing, digital art and mixed media, as well as other media, such as textile art. In short, we present here a very worthy piece in the huge global mosaic of contemporary art that we are compiling. Thomas Tunberg Editor

GEORGINA MARY MACKEN Australia “Colours have always had smells and texture for me because I was born with autism and sensory synesthesia. Letters, numbers, sounds and people can trigger vivid colour sensations, and my paintings demonstrate what I see and feel around my subject. Eyes of a human trigger many concurrent senses and so my portraits enable me to enjoy the power of the eyes without needing to turn away and close mine.”

“The art of photography begins with a feeling, followed by seeing through the camera with anticipation, and ultimately developing an image that speaks to that feeling. I see the world as a beautiful place. My art is intended to bring a sense of well-being, excitement, eroticism, and euphoric emotions to my audience. My style is a fusion of classic black and white photography melded together with surrealism

I begin by sizing, cropping, and developing my color photographs with classic zone system considerations to achieve a technically excellent print. From there, I enhance colors and textures in the image until I achieve an artistic impression that conveys my feelings about the picture. Finally, I curate a few of the mastered photographs that speak to me through my imagination, fantasies, and desires. I manipulate the curated images using Photoshop in a variety of ways which include cross-processing color, warping and melting graphical elements, adding NASA imagery for skies, inventing imaginary objects, and blending numerous layers of my photographs. I may work for weeks and even months revising and

“Extraordinary weather phenomena bring forth new environmental concerns to consider and I can’t help but lend comment in my paintings. At the top of Idaho, storms are lit by the wide tilt of the northern sun, revealing the arching scope and span to the land. A world in turmoil that sweeps from beneath your feet and far off into the distance. Rolling patches of farm and delta, illuminated through soaring clouds, and materialize much like lace. Cool stretches of mountains and trees are suddenly jolted by hot forks of lighting that pass above and through them.

Hoping For Rain, 201 Oil on canvas 36 x 48 in. (Owned by the artist)

billow high into the sky and move in over the terrain, either releasing sheets of rain and roaring rivulets, towering funnels of fury, or implausible streaks of opaque, caustic fog. The visual drama of dimensions and space makes it impossible for one aspect of the scene to yield peacefully to the other. From my artist’s vantage, I know with certainty how small and earth’s majesty, discovering in the terrible reality of our ever-powerful planetary weather a spine-tingling preeminence in our mother’s rage.”

Clement Bryant’s career began at an early age—kindergarten, to be precise. Since that time, there have been a multitude of admirers and followers of his artistic style as exhibited in the areas of onlookers’ amazement may be attributed to Clement’s origins in an environment less than conducive to nurturing and artistic talent. Ironically, his talent continued to thrive amidst often chaotic early experiences that ran the gamut

His positive philosophy recognizes that even hardships, when coupled with life’s lighter moments, expand and enhance the wellspring of his experiences, thus enabling him to tap into and use them as expressions of his art. BRITT CONLEY United States

Conductor Lorin Maazel Ink on paper 18 x 24 in.

Conductor Leonard Bernstein Ink on paper 18 x 24 in. When conducting, Bernstein darts his poignant details that define the precision of his expectations. This duality between conjuring the musicians and demanding monumental, individual tasks within the performance illustrates his conducting essence.

Maazel conducts with a full-elbowed and confident motion that buttresses the pointed and deliberate tip of his baton. His hands and body act as one. Between them, a fully expressed language with clear sentences is written in the moment, for us to hear.

Britt’s artistic efforts are dedicated to visually personifying musical works, ideas, or composers’ writing styles. She mainly works with classical music and Jazz. Born in 1965, Britt is a synaesthetic artist who began her life as a native Washingtonian. She studied art at George Washington University, as well as taking classes along the way through The Art League and the Corcoran School of Art. She has held numerous solo exhibitions, often featuring collaborations with musicians, composers, and musical ensembles, most recently with The Wheeling Symphony of West Virginia. Britt is the recipient of The Award of Excellence from The Arts Club of Washington and her work is in numerous private collections, including that of Jill and Joe Biden. Her studio resides at The Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia.

“When my painting career started, I used watercolor and eventually became a water media artist. My watercolor/water media paintings are non-traditional and have won numerous awards in juried shows and exhibitions. They are included in private and corporate collections around the world. When Covid drastically changed our lives, I decided to pursue a new direction and started using “Textural Acrylics.” These are created with a palette knife on canvas. Incorporating modeling paste and acrylic gels, as well as wood and collage, have led me to a new awakening. Painting primarily in an impasto style, I become immersed in the process as I have a “conversation” with the painting so that a joyful merging of color, texture and creativity emerge. Every painting invites the viewer to come into the world on the canvas and make it their own. I love my new direction and can only imagine how my paintings will morph in the future.” Woodland Shadows Acrylic on canvas 24 x 30 in.

FAZIAN France

Fazian, or Thierry Phazian, is a “polymorphic” artist creating for over 20 years as a visual artist, as well as a musician, songwriter and singer. For him, visual art and music function as two sides of the same coin that nourish his personality and identity. In his current approach to plastic art, he combines a variety of contemporary techniques based on the concept of fragmentation and centered on the association of heterogeneous elements to create a new language or artwork. Fazian also integrates digitally retouched images and recycled objects. Art professionals (magazines and galleries) in North America have described his work as hybrid creations with Afro-Caribbean mysticism and European culture.

Max Werner was born in Ghent, Belgium and lives in the USA. He studied Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Art, London, and the Slade School of Art, University College London. Werner later taught Printmaking at both schools, until 1990. In 1997, the artist moved to Argentina, where he traveled extensively across different regions. In 2003, he moved to the USA. A common thread in his work is storytelling. Often triggered by simple observation of his immediate environment, such as landscapes, Max Werner seems to love the challenge of an unusual composition and the capturing of the diversity of light in the various places he travels to.
