engine size usually determines many of the classes, as well as experience levels, the C classes being for new riders while the A classes are dominated by experienced riders, and even local professionals. Occasionally you’ll also find divisions for Quad riders at events holding classes for those riders. The youth oriented classes usually re-

quire some sort of rider age for certain engine or machines, referred to as minis. You can get a feel for these class limits by looking over the membership application on the District web site, where you will also find links to both D16 rules, and the AMA rule book. (www.amadistrict16.com) You need to make sure a rider’s age will allow them to ride a par-

ticular size mini class bike. It is very common for families and riders to make motocross events a weekend affair, showing up the afternoon before the event and camping out. This is just one of the many aspects that make this such a great family sport. Spectators are always welcome.
