Lena Double-Header Trials Lena, Illinois - August 11-12 By Kathy Haselton Photos by Nancy Littlefield

T

he weeks leading up to the annual trial in Lena saw the temperatures hovering in the 90’s and even 100’s. Thankfully, the heat wave subsided in time for the two day trials event. The temperature on both days of riding stayed comfortably in the 70’s. A perfect weekend for riding! An added bonus was the fantastic meteor shower that many riders were able to see as they camped under the stars between days of riding. Landowner Gary Lingbeck welcomed 35 riders on day one of riding and 33 riders on the second. The beautiful rolling hills are one of the most picturesque places to ride in all of Northern Illinois. Gary has hosted the NITRO sponsored event for many years, and it is a

favorite amongst riders. The two day event featured eight sections each day, completely different each day. The sections were laid out throughout twenty acres of land. The loop itself was expansive, at two miles. Riding the loop gave riders a challenge while moving from section to section, as well as the pleasure of enjoying the beautiful landscape. Each of the sixteen sections offered a multitude of challenges that tested even the most skilled riders. Rocks, logs, creeks, hills, and tight turns kept the rider’s attention at all times. But the challenge of riding the well laid out sections is what keeps riders coming back year after year to Lena. NITRO is very fortunate to have an influx of young and talented riders making their way up though the classes. Brothers Luke and Mitchell Littlefield, brother and sister Ryan and

Intermediate rider Brandon Prouty.

Kailey Rivenburgh, Ryan Rohrschneider, Greg Sassi, and Sean Mullarkey are already making a name for themselves in trials. First year rider Kaily Rivenburgh has quickly moved up from Novice to the Intermediate class, and is doing an outstanding job there. Kailey finds riding nerve-wracking at times, but says riding with the guys gives her great motivation to keep working hard.
