I

s there a better way to spend two days than at Aztalan to either race or watch some flat track action? Unfortunately I missed the first day and when I arrived Sunday, all I heard was how great the Saturday night racing was. Most lines were double rows as over 135 entries showed up on a track that was described by everyone as perfect. The heat races went off smoothly and after a quick touch-up by the crew the mains were ready to start. When Quad A got the green light Jake Foti launched into the lead with Chuck Calvert and Cory Mahlum looking for any opening to slip past. Foti and Calvert held their positions as they separated from the class. Mahlum had his hands full with challenges by Brett Durant. When they came out of turn four it was an almost even race but Mahlum hooked up sooner and took the position by less than half a bike.

After winning both her classes Saturday night, 50cc rider Sutton Skodras looked like a favorite today but when 50cc Four Stroke rounded the holeshot she was stuck back in third. Xander Figliuzzi jumped out front with Trevor Infalt right behind him. Skodras charged hard and by the end of lap one she was all over Infalt’s rear wheel. Infalt couldn’t shake her, but seemed to have a bit more throttle down the straight. As the crossed flags came out they had rolled their battle right up to Figliuzzi’s rear wheel and now he had to defend his position as well. As all three rounded corner four they were within a couple bike lengths but Figliuzzi was still out front when the checkers flew just barely edging out both Infalt and Skodras. After the race a smiling Figliuzzi told me, “My race was good. I was in front at the start and held the gas open. I kept going and won. My Mom and Dad help me race and so does Figs Racing Products.” When Vet 30+ got the green
