Duquette Enduro Shines Duquette, Minnesota - August 26 By Mike Pohl

T

he Straight Arrow Enduro Rider’s Duquette Enduro was voted Best Enduro of The Year in 2011. If rider feedback is any indication, it looks like it could be a repeat for 2012 as well. The weather, the course, and the trail conditions added up to a very agreeable day in the woods. And finally, we had a 2012 off-road event where we didn’t have to ride in stinking hot weather conditions. Rider turnout equalled that of 2011. Trail Boss Ken Fastner connected just about every piece of single track in the Nemadji State Forest into the course. With the (long) transfer sections to and from the trails, A/B riders got in nearly 80 miles of travel. The competition portion of the course was roughly 60 miles in length. C riders were routed past the A/B loop, which contained some beautiful trails in Douglas County Wisconsin. Stay tuned, as we may be seeing more trail development in the Douglas County section of the Nemadji Trail system. Overall winner was AA rider Nate Ferderer, with Senior A rider Matt Stavish bringing in second place. Kent Schnaith commented that it was a “Great day for riding. Excellent trails, no face slappers. I had some thrills and spills. I remember Matt Stavish passing me in every section, that's what really fast looks like.” Juston Beach thought there were “ideal conditions, good weather, nice trails.” Rider Vito Tomolillo said, “We had perfect weather and the trails were in excellent condition with no dust. Nice fast flowing sections with the odd tight section to throw you off balance. Not too tough, but not too easy either.”

Jay Waalen commented that “the scoring was record fast, thanks!” Could the 2012 Duquette Enduro be enduro of the year again? We’ll have to wait until January 2013 to find out.
