or the fourth time in row, Trail Boss Mike Murphy of the Straight Arrow Enduro Riders presided over what many riders called the “best yet” Stone Lake Hare Scrambles event. Always a favorite, this twodistrict event (D16 & D23) attracts riders from Minnesota and Wisconsin. It has earned the reputation for offering a balance of fast trails, open grass sections mixed together with short, technical rocky sections. It makes for an entertaining, yet challenging, course. Riders experience a little bit of everything. It began as a dry summer day, until the last lap of the A/B race, when the thunder clouds moved in and doused the course with an inch or so of rain. Vet B rider Matt Stukel said, “The darkness on the last lap had me wishing I had some baja lights so I could see the trail. The course was awesome with something for everyone! It was my best race in two years!” Wisconsin rider J.D. Friebel and Minnesotan Nate Ferderer duked it out all day long. Ferderer led the first two laps and Friebel led the last four. Friebel said, “I kept pushing it until the last lap. I knew I had a little cushion on Nate, so I slowed it down a notch so I wouldn't make any big mistakes and throw it away, because I knew Nate would be pushing all the way to the finish to try and catch me.” Ferderer’s view of the day was, “I started to make up the gap to the lead then it started to get very dark on lap five, I made the mistake of using a tinted lens for my goggles and

it was nearly impossible to see anything in the woods, yet I couldn't take them off because I knew it was going to rain.” After two hours and twenty minutes of racing, the two were just six seconds apart at the finish. For much of the day they were in sight of each other. Overall A winner was Nate Zambon, who

finished ahead of several AA jockeys, and appears to be well on his way to earning his own coveted AA classification this year. C rider
