fter a week of temperatures over 100 and no rain for weeks the fate of the July race looked questionable. Starting early Thursday the dedicated track crew showed up and began pouring water nonstop onto the track in quantities so huge they had to keep a close eye not to run the pond dry. By Friday afternoon they had put down enough water that tilling the track was possible, before the real watering continued. By Sunday morning the track was perfect for the 330 entries. When the gate dropped for 50Jr., Noah Bindas was out front with a big holeshot. Owen Haseleu was running second with Nolan Schweighardt close behind. Robert Manke breathing down his neck. The third time over the plateau Manke outjumped Brad for second place. Brad went down soon after and had to settle for a mid-pack finish for the moto. Kevin Yde was able to turn his 3/1 day into the overall win while Haessig (1/3) was second and Greg Niles converted his 5/4 into third overall. Kirsten Raemisch powered down the start straight in Women’s moto one and then proceeded to disappear out front. In second, Jade Wennlund had Sierra Dortch on her rear wheel. Dortch had cut her way through the pack after being last around the holeshot. Dortch finally found a gap to get past Wennlund on lap three. Brenda Garland finished fourth just ahead of Dawn Cox. Moto two was a repeat for Raemisch as she again got the holeshot and checked out. Dortch got by Wennlund right away but then went down and lost a few positions. By the middle of lap two Dortch had fought back and now had Wennlund Dortch caught up to in sight. Wennlund and as they came out of the sand in the west end, slipped past into second. Later, after racing Women’s, 250C and 125Jr. Dortch commented on the second moto, “In moto two I got a pretty good start and was in second at the parastyle but I tried to take an inside line and I tipped over. When I tried picking up my bike it took a couple tries to get it up and running again so I lost two or three spots. I guess I was mad at myself and I rode hard and was able to get by everyone again on the second lap. It was kind of fun, maybe I need to do that more often, I like playing catch up, I ride harder. Thanks to Forward Motion, my Mom and Mike, Dennis Ponton Graphics, Premier Powersports, and Spiderwebmxpics. I also want to thank Sportland 2 because next week I’ll be getting a new KXF250 from them.” Tim Boblin grabbed the +45 holeshot in moto one but Robert Raduenz was out front by the time he hit the plateau. Tom Dretzka was in second and Boblin was in front of a pack of hard charging riders including Gary Behrens, Daryl Willing, Mike Zimmerman, and Paul Marescalco. Willing took over third in the east end on lap one and before the checkers flew Marescalco also moved past Boblin. Raduenz got the moto two holeshot but this time Dretzka was right behind him and poised to take away the lead. Raduenz held him back for the first three laps, but Dret-
