All Fun at Sunset Ridge Walnut, Illinois - July 15 By Missi Thede

I

t was another HOT day on the track at Sunset Ridge MX. With beautiful weather and great track conditions, everyone was anxious to get the race in motion. Opening the day was the thirty-five rider, packed gate of the Open C class. With the narrow approach of the start corner, everyone hoped for a good start. With the drop of the gate #736 Eran Salzmann took the holeshot with Brian Haines and Kelly Trowbridge following up the uphill triple. All riders made it through the start corners to continue their quest for prime positioning. Jonathan Warner of Geneseo, IL, moved through to the lead riders and took the lead, setting the pace for the rest of the riders. Trowbridge held the second spot in lap two along with Haines in third, but the pursuit and push from others was a constant threat. Paxton Kerber continually moved up through the pack and moved up to the fourth to put the pressure on Haines. Robert Wehn also gained more ground and was behind Kerber. Wehn pushed his way up to the third

spot and closed in on second. Haines dropped down to sixth. Then with the last lap Trowbridge had a huge setback which put Wehn into second, Kerber third, and Jake Carlson fourth, as Warner won the moto. In the second moto Wehn jumped into the lead with Warner second and Kerber in third. A battle between Karson Kokotan and Haines led to Kokotan taking his fourth spot. Overall for the day was Wehn, Warner, Kerber, Kokotan and Haines. In the +30B/C class, Brad Adams took the holeshot while Michael Gowe went for the pass toward the uphill triple, flying side by side over it with Byron Wetzell and Zeno Molteni right behind them. With a setback at the top of the uphill, Molteni took the early lead with Trowbridge moving into second and Troy Quest third. Tim Vanbeveran moved into the third spot in the next lap. First moto win went to Molteni, leading Trowbridge, Vanbeveran and Neil Anderson. As the gate dropped for the second moto, #11 Byron Wetzell of Morrison, IL, took the opening lead with first moto winner Molteni in pursuit. Quest found himself in third during the first lap, but dropped down to sixth for his overall finish of fifth. Moving up from the fourth spot to third was Trowbridge, who ended with a second overall finish. Brad Adams assumed fourth to get ninth overall for the day. With Wetzell’s first place finish second moto it set him third CYCLE USA, August 2012
