Mees Masters Brainerd Vintage FT #9 Grand National Expert Jared Mees leads the pack during the Pro DTX class.

MA Grand National Championship Expert Jared Mees (#9), made the trek all the way from Michigan to compete in the North Central Speedway Outlaw Pro Vintage flat track races held in conjunction with the Minnesota HOG rally to be held in the Brainerd Lakes area this week. Mees took home the lion’s share of a generous purse, and he also put on a good showing in front of a large crowd that consisted mostly of HOG Rally participants. Mees won the two Pro Vintage divisions as well as the Pro DTX class with relative ease. He failed to take all of the first place prize money after finishing second to Wheelie Contest winner and fellow GNC rider Josh Koch, who wowed the crowd with his one wheeled antics. Although there was a light rider turnout they had no complaints for lack of track time. The three classes featured in the evening’s program offered a set of two heats, a B Main and then a feature A Main. Combined with the preceding practice session, the fans were treated to plenty of fast action on the third

mile long circuit that was groomed to perfection. Mees swept the classes in commanding fashion, and while competing on three separate machines he had a lot of work to do to besides riding, explained Mees. “I couldn’t have done it without the help of Mike Wells.” Wells had a busy night preparing and staging Mees’ machines during the fast paced program. Unfortunately, the evening event did not go without a couple serious incidents involving a couple of local hot shoes. Pro Single teen sensation Cole Anderson was involved in a heavy crash during the B Main when he high-sided in turn three. Anderson was taken to the local hospital and was diagnosed with a broken collarbone and hand, plus a concussion. On the other end of the spectrum local flat track veteran Lee Fealy unloaded his Vintage Rotax hard in turn two earlier in the program. Being the Iron Man he is, Fealy finished the evening’s racing only to find out the next day that he suffered a broken ankle, and will be spending the next few weeks in a cast.
