The Day

Drew a Giant Ball of Fluff José Carlos Román Zuriñe Aguirre

In the forest, the day began like any other. All of the animals woke up very early, had their breakfast, and were getting ready to go to school.

Well, all of them except little Snail, who was always the last to finish her breakfast.

It was just a normal day at school. The children were doing math, discovering the names of distant jungles, jumping around in the schoolyard, learning new songs, and making note of their homework for the next day. “Now children, tomorrow you all have to bring in your pictures of an elephant, said Miss Dragonfly.

The next morning, the teacher looked at the pictures the children had drawn, one by one.

“My daddy helped me with mine,” said Firefly. “My sister drew mine, and I colored it in,” said Beetle. “I didn’t have time to finish mine!” complained little Snail.

“Well, your pictures are all quite lovely. How about your elephant, Ladybug?” “I drew mine all on my own, Miss Dragonfly,” said Ladybug, showing it to her teacher.

“What on earth is that?” yelled Miss Dragonfly. “It’s a giant ball of fluff!” replied Ladybug.

The day that Miss Dragonfly asked her pupils to draw an elephant, Ladybug surprised everyone by drawing a giant ball of fluff. All the forest animals were worried: why would she have done something like that? The Day Ladybug Drew a Giant Ball of Fluff is a story about the value of imagination and creative self-expression.
