Please introduce yourself and tell us little bit about your background.. Hello, my name is Paul Bush, currently my day job as art director for a web development company has given me all kinds of opportunities to work with web, flash, design, and illustration. However, my college degree is in illustration which is really my passion. Where are you from? Originally I’m from Dearborn Michigan, USA, but I my family moved to Idaho when I was in the 1st grade so I pretty much grew up in rural USA. Could you share with us the history behind creativebush.com? What does it mean? Creativebush.com was conceived as a portfolio site for my illustration and design services. It’s gone through a couple of revisions and I’ve taken it several directions over the years but it’s back to its roots as a site to showcase my illustration.
I THINK VEKTORJUNKIE. COM IS A GREAT SITE AND I LIKE THE IDEA OF THE PDF ONLINE MAGAZINE DEVOTED TO VECTOR WORK, BRILLIANT!
The name is really just a play off of my last name, Bush and a little bit of the female netherregion... :-) I had a lot of fun with some variations on the logo but eventually settled on a “G” rated version. What do you think about vektor graphik? What do you love about it? I really used Illustrator for years as a layout tool for doing web/flash design. It was only recently that I began using it for what it was intended, illustration. I really like vector graphics for their clean style but there are some powerful tools out there that allow for a huge range of styles ranging from a more flat look to a fully shaded realistic look. I also like the idea of resolution independence allowing for all kinds of sizing/printing options! What kind of vektor softwares do you currently use? I currently use Illustrator CS2 but I actually started with Canvas 2.5 back in the day then made the switch to Illustrator around version 5 if I recall. I purchased Freehand to give it a try but I never really got a feel for it like I did Illustrator.

How would you describe your style? I’ve done a variety of styles and liked working with the gradient mesh tool but I like having a mix of flat color with some subtle shading. I would call it a semi realistic style I guess. Of course if you go by my subject matter it would be primarily a skin style! How do you work from concept to the final artwerk? Could you tell us the creative process? I’ve got a ton of ideas always swimming around it my head but I’m never able to execute them as well as I would like. I don’t have a strong imagination anymore so I do use reference to a certain extent. The more realistic the piece the more reference material is required for me. I generally start out with a sketch on paper till I get a layout I like, then I scan that sketch in and trace over it with a black line varying the thickness to give the line some variety. I use a lot of layers in illustrator to make it easier to go back and edit areas. I primarily use a mouse to do my illustrator work but when I need some quick repetitive stuff I break out my Wacom tablet. Lately I’ve been trying to work the tablet in more and more as it does allow for a bit more spontaneity. If I’m working on a tight portrait I may trace directly over a photo to get the likeness as accurate as possible. What are the projekts you are currently working on? Any future projekts you can share with us? I just finished up some concept illustrations for a company that builds snowboarding ramps world wide. They were illustrations to help show how the structures would work and how advertising could be placed with them. I was hoping to have a story book project going but that appears to have stalled a bit.

I’ve always got some sketches drawn out but between a day job, family, and other interests I don’t get as much drawing in as I should! Any favorites projekt? One of my favorite projects was just for myself as a self promotional piece, using the mesh tool to develop a stylistic/realistic female ninja with her sword, you can see that at my site. Who are your favourite artists or designers? There are some amazing vector artists over at deviant art that I’ve come across like; Cristiano Siqueira, Charlene Chua, Stanley Lau, there are a few others but I don’t know their real names :-(. I’ve also always enjoyed work from Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, Bernie Fuchs, and Patrick Nagel. What inspires you? Could you list the 8 things that inspiring you in your creative process? The female figure, Fast cars Fresh air 80’s tunes Mac OSX Any tips or tricks for those vektorlover out there, to create such as lovely vektor artwerks like yours? The best I can think of is if you’re going to use an outline on your illustrations, make sure to vary the width to give it more character. It will make it look more like it was hand inked with a brush. What do you think of vektorjunkie.com? I think its a great site and I like the idea of the PDF online magazine devoted to vector work, brilliant! Please introduce yourself and tell us little bit about your background.. My name’s zed I was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1969. Since very early in our lives both me and my brother Fido Nesti. Draw and paint encouraged by our parents who met each other at art school. I never went to any art school myself but never stopped drawing and begun working professionally around 1990. Where are you from? I was born in Rio de Janeiro but left to São Paulo when I was just one year old. Could you share with us the history behind zedonline.com.br? What does it mean? I started the site in 2002 to help promote my work. I did a flash version first which included logo and web design, photography, illustration and comics. Then I made a more simple site with only illustration works. It’s my name and because zed.com is not available. What do you think about vektor graphik? What do you love about it? I like many different styles and techniques but I needed to choose one to be known of and get jobs. At the time I was spending a lot of time at the computer so it was a natural choice. What kind of vektor softwares do you currently use? Adobe Illustrator. How would you describe your style? I think it’s commercial with an artsy taste to it.

How do you work from concept to the final artwerk? Could you tell us the creative process? After I get the briefing I will either get a photograph from the client or take one myself or find one or many different ones on the internet. Than I’ll place them on a new Adobe Illustrator document and start drawing each color on a new layer using the path tool with no color. Then I select each layer choosing the right color for it. I delete the photographs and flatten the image. What are the projekts you are currently working on? Any future projekts you can share with us? I just did an illustration for the french magazine Max and one for Única from Portugal. I’m working on oil on canvas paintings and plan fo focus on it from now on. Any favorites projekt? I like the illustration I did this year for Mixte magazine. Who are your favourite artists or designers? There are soon many…Picasso, Steinberg, Wollinsky, Crumb, Jeff Koons, Neville Brody, Francis Bacon, Terry Richardson, etc… What inspires you? Please introduce yourself and tell us little bit about your background.. My name is Tema Semenov. I’m a 23 y\o designer\illustrator, currently living in Moscow, Russia. Since my childhood, I’ve always dreamed to become “an artist”. I’ve always painted: at school, at home, even when I was out with my friends or relatives. Then, when I studied at the Pedagogical University, teachers noticed my desire to design and illustrate (btw, big thanks to them). I think that was good for both sides. I made illustrations and cover images for books they published, and in their turn they understood that I was better in design, than in languages (thou, I know languages very well ;) ). So, they never bothered me much. =) While studying languages, I began to work as a freelance designer in 2001 and after making several projects for my own, I was noticed by an ad agency, situated in Syracuse, NY. Since that moment, I began to work as a motion/flash designer and illustrator. In 2004, I changed my work and joined a local award-winning web-design company. And in 2005 I graduated from the State Pedagogical University. Now I’m here in Moscow studying art and visual communications at the British Higher School of Art & Design and experiencing life from another point. At the very moment, I work as a motion designer/flash designer for “TNT”, television channel. Where are you from? I was born in Penza, Russia in ‘83, where I grew up.

Could you share with us the history behind vectorizedme.com? Well, since my portfolio grew, it required some Internet space to show off my works/projects and give a brief information about myself. I began to think about it in 2002, but the name of my on-line portfolio didn’t come to my mind first. Early variants included: e.t. design, tommy’s home and what not. I recall all this with a smile. :) Then, after working much with vector graphics, I chose “Vectorized Me”. That idea came to my mind, when I drew myself in vector. So, that was the birth of Vectorized Me. What do you think about vektor graphik? What do you love about it? I really don’t know what to think about it. I just like it so much that words fail me. It gives the freedom of drawing and clearness of lines & shapes to those, who use the power of vector graphic correctly. I think the best feature of vector graphic is that you can resize any artwork and do what ever you like without loosing its quality.

What kind of vektor softwares do you currently use? I mostly use Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Flash. I even can’t imagine my life without these two and some other non-vector softwares. :) How would you describe your style? Erm... that’s a rhetorical question. I even don’t know what to say about it. I think, it’s just the way I live, the rhythm, sounds and people surrounding me. So, it’s hard for me to describe it. I suppose, some one could describe it better than me, being objective and defining some qualities and features of my style. How do you work from concept to the final artwerk? Could you tell us the creative process? Well, first of all, I need an idea of what the future artwork/project would be. For me, listening to a music and observing the world around me, is the best way to get this idea quickly. So, I choose a CD according to the mood, take a piece of paper and a pen/pencil, sit in a comfortable arm-chair and begin to listen and think. Sounds fun, eh? :) But that’s true.
What are the projekts you are currently working on? Any future projekts you can share with us? I’m working on several motion design projects for my own. I think, I need to widen this sphere of design. Plus, Adobe After Effects works well with my favorite vector graphics. :) I like how our designers made the style of “Big Brother” and received several awards for a good use of typography and design.
VEKTORIKA | INTERVIEW Any favorite projekts? I think they are all my favorite. I can’t define, what I like most and what I like less. Illustrations for Vektorika give me the freedom to create and that’s why they are among the favorites. ;) Who are your favourite artists or designers? I like works of Robert Lindstroem (Design Chappel), Joost Korngold’s motion graphics (Renascent) and animation of the guys from Tokyo Plastic. What inspires you? Could you list the 8 things that inspiring you in your creative process? Talking to my girl-friend and listening to the music. Playing PC games (there’s a lot of inspiration in them) and watching the movies... ah, and browsing Vektorika magazine. ;) Any tips/tricks for vektorlover? out there to create such great vektor artwerks like yours? I’m completely self-taught. I learned all the skills from surfing, working day and night and annoying people, who knew more than I did (e.g. forums, tutorials) and of course, by looking through such magazines, as “Computer Arts”, “Vektorika”, “Filter”, etc. I think, that’s the best way for people who are starting: to examine and analyse others’ works. Plus, you need a passion to create. ;) What do you think of vektorjunkie.com? I think Vektorjunkie and especially, Vektorika gives a good opportunity for illustrators to show off their works.
