All dance is cultural. I cannot think of any that are not, but I am leaving space for the possibility they exist. Dance is already always intercultural, although a particular dance’s politics may not position itself as so. Laura Osweiler. Photo: Chris Laudermilk Laura Osweiler, PhD (Amara) is a performer, choreographer, teacher, and producer. She has performed traditional and experimental Middle Eastern dance throughout the U.S. and Canada and has been highlighted in numerous videos. In addition to teaching dance studio classes, Laura has taught accredited courses at a number of universities. She is Director of Ya Helewa! Dance Company, Director of “Training4DanceTeachers,” and producer of workshops, performances, and conventions. She holds a PhD in Dance History and Theory from UC Riverside, a BA in Music History and Literature and a certificate in Ethnomusicology from The Florida State University.
