FOREWORD OF PRESIDENT

Under-15 Boys Championship Message, President Webb

A critical step in achieving greatness and realizing the highest potential in this game is to develop young talent and reach our goal of winning the World Cup. We clearly recognize the importance of their development and the opportunity to prepare and mold our next generation of superstars. For this reason, we created an Under 15 championship to enrich the lives of the region’s talent with good values, confidence and an excellent platform to advance forward. I am proud that the inaugural Boy’s Under-15 Championship was a huge success for players, coaches, referees and spectators, with the added benefit of having an outstanding sporting environment in the Cayman Islands. The game brought together a great mix of cultures and intense passion for the game. Crowd participation surpassed expectations, with approximately 21,000 spectators overall, a significant number for the inaugural tournament. With an aggressive schedule of 55 matches over 11 days and 393 players, we were impressed with the level of play by the teams and we are confident that this exemplary championship will prove to be a milestone in the region’s continued development. The tournament’s success resonated in several ways. The competition not only demonstrated the impact of football to the lives of these young players, but also showcased the importance social development within countries throughout the region. I would like to thank all the sponsors, member associations, teams, referees and volunteers for placing this inaugural Under 15 Boys Championship on the global map. We look forward to building on this strong foundation as we continue to involve our youth in events that will motivate and fortify them. Our vision and goal for the next generation of football is for these young players to develop their talent and advance to showcase them on the global stage.

Jeffrey Webb President

The Technical Study Group (TSG) was comprised by:

1. Luis Hernandez Herez (Cuba), CONCACAF Executive Committee member, Head of TSG. 2. Alexander González Garcés. (Cuba) Specialist. 3. Ramón Enrique Madariaga Chávez (Honduras) Specialist. 4. Juan Carlos Chavez (Mexico) Specialist. 5. Carl Brown. Jamaica. Specialist. 6. Mario Balioty. Martinique. Specialist. 7. Luis Manuel Hernandez Valdivia (Cuba), TSG Coordinator. The TSG performed the following functions:

- Technical and tactical analysis and match report of each game. - Interview to all team coaches by a questionnaire. - Compilation of Match statistics. - Fair Play Team selection for each match and for the tournament. - MVP selected for each game and highlights per team. - Selection of the most outstanding Goalkeeper of the tournament. - Selection of the All-Star team. - Preparation of the preliminary and final report of the tournament. - Analysis of the performance of all players participating in the event. - Final Analysis of all participating teams technical, tactical and physical.

I. I. Introduction. We can say that with the celebration of this tournament, it was real the dream of all the countries of CONCACAF. Having our own event sub 15 with a large participation of young athletes and carry it out in a similar way to the rest of the World Confederation. This is one of the most important goals started in the direction of development, growth and organization of football in the area. The beautiful Cayman Islands has been an excellent venue and has hosted this show with a high responsibility providing all the government support and all different institutions necessary for a successful implementation. Three stadiums (Truman Bodden, Ed Bush and Annex) welcome for their location and game scenarios have served our youth to show their skills. Finally attended by 22 countries together with the 5 other countries such as Cuba, Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Panama, and Canada that were in the tournament in Mexico for 28 countries of CONCACAF área which competed in this category. Never before this goal had been achieved at these ages. All teams showed properly uniformed colorfull and demonstrated their football cravings. The quality and the tenacity showed in every encounter sparked interest in the public, which fully supported the teams of a country with no tradition in this sport. At each meeting was held a first level organizational system with class demands and schedules in each activity. Finally, the parades, the organization, flags and national anthems were a well emotional show for these young figures. Apart from the differences in the level of competition among the teams, we can state that all players competed with a high spirit of Fair Play and played with passion to win. This event and its successful development made a commitment to all of us to provide continuity and obligation to form stable part in CONCACAF competitive calendar.

As it can be seen the performance of the participating teams was very different, and we can classify them into three basic levels. Level A: Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Bermuda, Martinique, Haiti, Cayman Islands, Guadalupe, Puerto Rico and Belize. Level B: Aruba, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis. Level C: Bahamas, Us Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, Granada, St. Lucia, St. Martin, Curacao, Antigua and Barbuda and St. Vincent. TECHNICAL LEVEL “A level teams” showed good technical performance both individually and collectively, always remembering that they are very young players and showed deficiency in shots in near and middle distance as well as ball posession. There were very talented players in full swing development. Remarkable teams were Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Bermuda with a very similar technical - tactical level and operational as in both attack and defense. “B and C level” presented major technical difficulties in fundamental basics such as ball control in different types of facilities, beatings, short passes and long distance, pitch, little possession and serious deficiencies in the definition of the attack with shots on the opposing goal, coordination of movements and making poor decisions. All football basics, which demonstrates the inadequacies since early age. Caribbean countries are the most affected. Impressive is the technical shortcomings of most archers which shows very little and poor job management in this crucial area for a football team. Some teams due to their level were only participants; others due their quality were the genuine players in the event. TACTICAL

30

Tactical formations most commonly used by the teams were the (1-4-4-2) and (1-4-5-1 With variants (1-4 - 1-3-1) and (1-4-2-3-1) Most Teams of Level A used 2, 3 and 4 players in the offense thanks to the support of lateral leaflets

and defenses in that area, giving amplitude to their games across the width of the field. They also showed organization and discipline in meeting tactical approaches. Remarkable were the teams of Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands, that without having a great physique, they used a better tactical discipline, presented a dynamic game, sociable, and organized. The organization within the field, the knowledge and tactical discipline were the determining factors in the outcome of the winning teams. Level B teams and C had serious tactics deficiencies and sometimes disorganization and lack of concentration. Both offensive and defensive performance, the lack of ball possession led them, in many cases, to use disorganized long runs with constant balls lost using bad passes. This aspect that is crucial is one of the most significant shortcomings of the Caribbean football. ATTACK It really was a single offensive football tournament, from the 54 games there were only 4 draws. In all matches were scored goals and the final goals figure was 236 for an average of 4.37 goals per game. This is a reflection of an open game thanks to their youth and where there are not so many defensive approaches and there is not restraining of creativity of young football players. Besides there is a very clear reflection of the different levels between the 22 football teams; however young talent could be distinguished as scorers, skillful, fast and eye for goal. Two different forms of attack in the tournament were observed in Central America with an elaborated arrival in midfield, precise combinations and compact game between lines. The Caribbean with direct attacks, counter-attacks and in depth in most of the opportunities. This aspect of football (Offensive Operation) is perhaps the weakest in our region and the most deficient in the Caribbean area due to the low technical level of our players in having possession of the ball, creating fast and safe combinations in attack with dangerous arrivals to the the opposite goal.

DEFENSE The basic system used in defense was four players at the bottom with two or one midfielder forming a compact block in the mid zone. Most of (A) Level teams maintained a stable defensive organization throughout the match with good coverage, anticipations and support from the midline to closing at midfield. The defense players behaved well in the air game and in balls discussion 1 vs 1. Honduras used a labeling intensive presence on the contrary right at loosing the ball, which offered them very positive results. However, it was observed at times lack of mental concentration in defensive zones in the rest of the teams. Level teams (B) and (C) had organizational difficulties and serious defensive concentration. It was impressive the group (C) which showed lack of basic defensive fundamentals and were beaten. We should emphasize that in this category where young players are in their full physical development, in some cases, there are large physical differences decicive in football (strength, height, speed and power) Teams like Bermuda, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Honduras, and Belize had a remarkable physical potential over the rest of the countries. PHYSICAL One of the main objectives of the event was to ensure that all teams should play at least 4 to 7 games, essential aspect for development, and it was achieved. Nevertheless, we must recognize that the physical effort was hard together with the intense heat in the evening hours, which determined the performance in most cases. The fitness levels are similar to the range of the three groups mentioned above. But it is extraordinary in many cases the difference in size, strength, speed and power of some teams above others, in some cases it was decisive in the results achieved. There were teams like Puerto Rico, Cayman Islands, and Haiti, that thanks to their physical and tactical organization gave very good performance against the strongest teams. Level (B) and (C) teams as long as the tournament progressed were declining their physical ability yet to meet tactical tasks; example of this were St. Maarten, Bahamas, U.S. Virgin Island, Curacao, and

St. Lucia. Some others from group B due to its tactic disorganization in the attack and defense were physically tire and reached the second time without a high physical response to the rigor of the game. WARMING UP A Fundamental aspect before any physical activity and in the case of football it is decisive. Some teams had serious difficulties to run in a professional and pedagogical way their warming up. “A level teams” made their warming up with different characteristics and intensity but at least with a basic organization. “B and C Level teams” were poor in most cases; some of them did not have a planned and guided program, unmarked, had no resources to accomplish the warming up, and had no intensive increasing rate. A Poor and deficient aspect; except for the Central American teams, was the lack of warming up for the alternate players that were supposed to enter when changes were needed. It was observed that the archers warming up, in several cases, was carried out alone by themselves without any guidance. TEAM DIRECTION In this area we observed different practices of management and procedure of technical groups among the teams of Central America and the Caribbean, which was really significant, as it is a crucial activity in football. Central American teams remarkable aspects: Correct use of warming with an excellent distribution of its staff in this role, as well as for the Goalkeeper warming, for the main players conditioning and the warming for the alternate players. Regardless of the category of sub 15 team or any other team, the direction is carry out very professionally and it is something valuable to pass on to the Caribbean countries as well as the direction of their teams in the game and the precise tactical instructions, stimulating the players to create and develop their strengths. The tactical approaches and game systems studied and trained giving priority to the team organization in the field. We must say that together with Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and, Belize, it was joined Puerto Rico. These teams were examples of

31

preserved direction throughout the event. As for the Caribbean also Bermuda and Cayman Islands were good examples. The remaining Caribbean teams had limitations on this fundamental issue because of the lack of personality, professionalism and intelligence to organize, plan and anticipate every situation to keep a stable organization in the tournament. Comments on actual play time: The officially played games were of 70 minutes, divided into four sets ( 1 -17.30 , 17.30 - 35, 35 -52.30 , 52.30 -70 ) the lowest part- time was the third with 9.56 min , the fourth part time was the longest one with 11.19 min and the average of the event was 41.36min . Comments on the lineup changes table: We can say that the teams that had the best scores in the tournament made less changes in the leading line-up, exept when ranked in the group stage and it was observed that in the teams with lesser performance and results, made many changes in the initial basic line-up of the players at different positions, affecting the stability and functioning of the team. Observations for the responses about the technical questionnaire. From the 22 participants only 20 teams answered. •19 countries have tournaments in this category. Only Us Virgin Islands states that they have no such event in their country. •Time duration of these tournaments. The range is from 2 to 8 months. Highlighting the countries of Central America where they performed with a longer time.

32

•The average number of games performed by these players officially in their country is usually between 10-22 encounters in the Caribbean. •Highlighting the Central American countries with 20-40 games.

•Percentages of technical-tactical preparation as average devoted to preparation according to technician’s answers are from 50% to 70%. Even from the less technical-tactical level teams, what makes us ask ourselves: Do these coaches know how to work and achieve their proposed objectives? Do they know how to respond to the questionnaire? However the higher level teams and results in the tournament employed more than 50% of the preparation to that decisive aspect that is the Technical and tactical organization. •Time spent getting teams ready for the tournament ranged between: 1 week minimum to 10 weeks maximum; most of the teams participating worked between 3 to 4 weeks. This shows the weak preparation of the teams in all aspect of several selections. •The competitive reality and tournament results showed that countries: •Honduras, Guatemala, Salvador, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Haiti, Belize and Aruba, responded and developed a football accordingly to their answers giving priority to technical and tactical work. •The rest of the countries did not comply with the planning and technical concepts in the different encounters as per the responses of their technical staff. •If we wish the development of all CONCACAF countries, then we should prioritize care, control and evaluation of competitive events (schedules) of each federation directly to the number of official games developed in the year.

A team with many technical and tactical.limitations. Thi steam participates in group (D) where played in 5 games, with a win and 4 losses; 16 goals against and only 3 in favor. It was noted that all managerial, medical funtions, etc are coach himself developed. A very low warming up level and the direction of the game had no participation nor guidance to the players. It seems there is no internal league at this age to be able to develop better condition. Antigua and Barbuda must work deeply in its internal organization to provide higher-level teams.

Technical Analysis

Defense Analysis:

•Very little to rescue individually and less on the collective, it is evidenced there is no based work on these boys. •Deficiencies marked on the fundamental basics of football: dribbling, passing, hitting, receptions, etc. •Their goalkeeper showed deficiencies in its technical aspect.

•Their line of defense did not crossed their own midfield; the defense line was apart from the rest of the team. •In the last game not even, the wingers crossed midfield. •They could not maintain a compact game in both attack and defense, leaving large spaces between the lines, allowing easy drive of opposites. They received 16 goals against. •Difficulties in the confrontation and discussion of balls in the 1 vs 1. •Deficient in coverage and anticipations.

Physical Analysis •Very poor physical condition, at that age should emphasize better coordination, flexibility, and based on their internal competition better aerobic conditioning.

Tactic Analysis

• Basic System used was 1-4-4-2 •No changes during the course of the tournament. •Tactic desorganization as well as in attack and defense.

Attack Analysis: •The offensive performance was deficient for not being compact and does not have the support of the backfield lines. •There was no depth and breadth in attack. •Very poor the few offensive combinations. •No possession of the ball.

35

Deficiencies:

•Very low technical and tactical level of the team. •Defense and attack disorganization. •They failed to develop a compact game between their lines. •There have no mastered basics of football. •Serious instability in the alignments. •No full technical staff in team leadership.

This team finished in the third position of Group A, achieving 3 wins and two defeats and had a good offensive level of 23 goals, most of them made by direct attacks. Their top scorer No. 9 Jean-Pierre Van Der Linden marked 10; he was by far the most remarkable player of the team. Pretty limited in defense, essentially seen due to the disorganization within the field, and the lack of knowlwdge of basiscs defensive principles. Lack of organization in the direction of the tasks within the coaching staff, the alternate players barely come into warming just before entering the field. Need Aruba to strengthen tactical technical work if it is to achieve success in the future. Colorful was provided in the event with his offensive game and competitive desire.

National team sub 15, UNCAF member and one of the countries that refreshingly surprised due to their playing level, physical ability and will to win. Belize again shows signs of working well with their national teams and that they can change their competitive image at international events. Included in-group (B) and was featured in all their games regardless of winning or losing. Participated in four games scoring 10 goals and only allowing two. Demonstrating a fierce and strength defensive line. Team on a competitive personality and impetus for victory. They count with a good technical and tactical direction.

Tactical

Basic System of Play 1-4-3-2-1

Technical Analysis.

Tactical Analysis

•Players of good individual technique with good ball control, even under pressure. •Good skills in some players but need to improve their shots on goal. Good short passes, but deficiencies in the long pass. •Good technical level in pitching to the opposing air game.

•Basic system 1-4-4-1-1 formation in defense, always marking individually the two rival´s pointers with two defenders and the others supporting the midfield. •The game is completely with direct attacks and counterattacks in depth thanks to the speed of their two strikers. •They change quickly their tactic formation in attack to a 1-4-3-3 formation when they have possession, coming up with good support for the lone striker. •Combinations in the defense to then go out with deep passes to attack. •Two players very fast in attack the # 19 and # 9 created permanent danger to the attack. Also, for their defense work of pressure, did not allowed opposing defenses play easily? •Presented a good team direction.

Physical Analysis. •Physical fitness and good speed that allows them to recover quickly after errors. Perform deep attacks based on the speed of their forwards. •Their physical ability allowed compactly pressure to the opposing teams throughout the game. •Their physical ability and strength allowed them to be featured in every game. Making proper use of these potentials in balls discussions and dynamic play.

47

Defense Analysis.

They were the undisputed leader in group A, reaching 15 points in dispute which made the difference specially by its excellent physical condition in addition to some very interesting players, scored 20 goals in the group stage and only received one against. It should be noted that despite playing to the limit in each of the shares was the fewest booked team in the event, demonstrating the fair game that they displayed. Their shortcomings lies in the organization into the field, constantly switched alignments and approaches that reduced the performance of some players. Planning ahead of alternates to enter the game was insufficient, virtually went out of the bank to the ground. It's a talented cast thet well managed can achieve success in the future. In the semifinal match against Guatemala fell in a close game that ended in a draw in the reglamentary time (1-1) and then lost in penalty (4-2). A worthy host of the tournament, a happy team, united and with a very well defined style of play despite its shortcomings, they were second in the group, yielding only to the power and drive of Bermuda. Its performance consisted on 4 wins and one loss, the only team that having 12 points failed to advance from the group stage, they scored 27 goals (leaders of the tournament) of which nearly 50 percent of their top scorer Leighton Young Thomas Jr. who scored 12, Leader of the contest. The Curacao selection presented the youngest team in the event and the lowest physical constitution. Participated in-group C, falling against strong teams in all presentations. Receiving 19 goals against and only 3 in favor. This event was for the young team of Curacao a competitive experience that we believe, in the future, will bring good results. Should be established for upcoming events minimum age limit, because it is dangerous at this age, the physical difference between players and teams.

•Basic Approach 1-4-5-1. They try to group players in midfield. •Always tried to start playing from defense with ball dominated. •This very young team brought as fundamental objective to participate in the event and provide their young athlets competitive experience. •Regardless of the score, they always tried to play with possession of the ball and well organized. •Their notable physical difference with the rest of the teams determined their results.

Physical Analysis: •Short players. They lost all the balls in plays for balls discussion. •Physically regular, a lot to improve in height and muscle mass. •Not able to maintain a high pace of game throughout the tournament.

59

Defense Analysis:

Attack Analysis:

•When they lost the ball, the entire team retreated to midfield, trying to shrink the spaces. •Disorganized defense and spaces at the backs of their outside forwards were large so they were attacked right there. •The team did not play compact, splitting in the midfield. •Weak in the discussion of balls 1 vs 1 and head balls. •The physical strength of opponents determined on results.

•Little passed midfield and rarely reached the rival area. •It was the shortest team event in age and height and it seemed that the dimensions of the field were too large for them.

Deficiencies: •Age and physical condition of the players as well as size not accordingly to the tournament. •Physically weak to face national teams that are really sub 15. •No technical or tactical level accordingly to this category. Outstanding players:No player found.

Granada presented a team with a low tactical and technical level but organized. They took part in a group (B) where the competitive level was high. Loosing 3 games (4-0) against Jamaica (5-0) with Guatemala and (6-1) vs. Belize. Winning only one game against St. Lucia by (2-0). With 15 goals against and 3 in favor, they closed its performance at the event. We must recognize that their presence at the event is a success due to fact that Granada is a country seeking for further development in football. So they really have to work harder and increase the quality in teaching the technical aspects in their youth and children.

A representative country of the Central American region, they brought a great team to this event. As the game was developed, their competitive level was growing. Very good technical, tactical, physical and performance level, with the familiar style of play in Central America of ball possession and exits from the bottom. Participated in six games with 14 goals scored and only 4 against. They discussed the gold medal against Honduras in a thrilling encounter where they fell very tightly (2 goals to 1) after providing an excellent demonstration of football and will to win. They gave color to the tournament, leaving a pleasant taste of a new Guatemalan football reappearance in the international arena.

Tactical

Basic System of Play 1-4-1-3-2

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS •Good technical level individually and collectively. •Good organization in defense and attack and keep ball possession, otherwise even under pressure and in a confined space. •Slow construction attack from behind, but capable of rapid movements of counter- attacks through good combinations with long and short passes. •Good shots on goal in the area but have difficulties hitting middle and long distance. •A technical and tactical level very evenly among all players that despite his young age know how to develop an excellent team play.

TACTICAL ANALYSIS •Uses a line up of 1-4-1-3-1-1 at the start of their games, but these changes during the game to a 1-41-3-2 formation to include an extra attacker. •A system based on the slow building attack from behind using combinations and being compacted with the support of both midfielders and defensive lines during the attack.

•The forwards are their first line of defense and try to recover the ball immediately and press the contrary in its own ground. •Very good management team organized and planned with tactical and operational requirements. Very good substitutes changes during the game.

ATTACK ANALYSIS. •Their offensive strategy depends on a high technical level and possession of the ball, which allow them to have organize attacks with slow and fast counterattacks surprise when necessary. They quickly pass from defense to attack. •Good mobility and job rotation during the attack, allowing them to remain compact, both in depth and in breadth. •They were not effective on set and corners.

75

DEFENSE ANALYSIS

DEFICIENCIES.

•Use a line up that forces the opponent to play on the touchlines, as there is little space in the middle and allows them to be compact when defending. •This compact defense kept the pressure on the opponent throughout the match and allows them to retrieve the ball quickly. •Due to their average stature, they fase some difficulties in the air play, on corners and centers of opposites. •Very good in coverage and anticipations. In higherlevel matches, semifinals and finals, they showed a great competitive character and desire for victory. •Very good archer, with direction and excellent saves.

•Too many spaces on the touchlines when they integrated to the attacks. •Difficulties in the air play due to their height at the time of discussing balls, in corners and centers of opposites. •Technical limitations in the beatings of goal in short and mid distances.

PHYSICAL ANALYSIS •Good physical condition that allows them to put pressure on the opponents through the games. •They kept mainly in the two final matches high tempo and intensity. # Nombre 1 REZNIK B. Rodrigo'Dimitri 12 Roberto'Carlos'PINEDA'FRANCO

One of the most competitive countries in the Caribbean. Jamaica came into the tournament as one of the favorites to lift the trophy, but was very disappointing. Without having a technical and tactical high level and had a poor game organization. Failed to qualify for finals. Participated in the qualifiers in the group (B) playing against Granada in their first meeting and winning four goals to zero. Defeated two goals to 0 to the weak team of Santa Lucia and fall by 3-1 against Belize and 1-0 against Guatemala. With 7 goals in favor and 4 against to finally occupy the 12th place in the standings of the event. Had limitations in the management of the team and poor performance despite having good players on its payroll individually.

Tactical

Basic System of Play 1-4-4-2

Technical Analysis. •Deficiencies in its collective technical level, they did not have ball possession due to wide bad passes. Althogh they had some players with high technical level individually. •Good pitching technique on air plays. •Some difficulty presented when using dribble too often which caused unnecessary loss of balls. •Technical deficiencies in shots on goal short and medium distances.

Tactical Analysis. •Basic Training 1-4-4-2 without variation throughout the tournament. Which used personal mark over their center forwarder and nullified Jamaica offensive potential. •Due to the opponents that pushed them with marks, they offered technical and tactical deficiencies that disorganized them. •Their game was based on long runs and direct attacks on the front center # 10. They lost a lot of

passes and created great disruption offensive. They were unable to vary this offensive.

Analysis Attack •They concentrated their attacks on the touchlines through its skillful and fast # 12 which had a great game in its debut. But then did not perform well in the remaining matches. •Their offensive was based on in-depth long runs and most were bad passes. The # 10 Center Forwarder that is strong and tall, also lower his performance significantly after the first game. •Did not played compactly their lines. They did not have the support of the side defenses in attacks. •It was a team that throughout the tournament was decreasing its performance.

87

Defense Analysis.

•Four online Fullback that rarely helped when the team attacks, slow to move forward after gaining possession causing a space between themselves and the other six players. •Very little organization and little lateral support resulting in many situations 1vs1. Two centers slow that were weak against fast forwarders as in its match against Belize. •Good in the air play and defended well against stopped ball and corners.

Physical Analysis.

•Medium-sized players with fairly good physical condition, but with a front forwarder player who was clearly an overweight. •They kept a good pace and intensity in the games development for this level.

Minimizing the opponent’s spaces. • Sometimes they were defeated in the discussion of balls 1 vs 1 due to the physical force of opposites. • Only got 5 goals against in front of strong teams like El Salvador, Haiti and Martinique.

Attack Analysis: •Always seek the breadth and generate superior numbers on the sides, with the addition of # 15 Julio Rosado who was used by both sides in different games. •Orientation changes caused either by coaching or directly with good accuracy. •The # 12 Marco Arocha always fell to the back of the rival’s halfback to create numerical superiority in the middle, and leave space for the rising of the siders of its sector •Very good transition from defense to attack and ball handling with good combinations.

They received 13 goals in 4 games and scoring 10 demonstrating their defensive weakness. They knew how to deal with all matches with great will to fight for victory. But still need to work hard in these categories the technical, tactical and organizational aspects of the team functioning.

98

Tactical

Basic System of Play 1-4-2-3-1

Technical Analysis. •Low technical level, both individually and collectively. •Technical deficiencies caused a lot of bad passes. • Individually highlighted the # 9 and # 21 due to its technical level. • Very little ball possession and continuity of the game due to technical deficiencies. • Low technical level in head balls discussion. • Technical deficiencies in shots on goal in short and medium distances.

•Poor play on offense, short of depth and counter area arrival. •They use a lot of long passes without precision. •The short passes quality is very bad. •Individual actions withouth coordination with the others primarily in attack combinations. •It was based on individual actions of # 9 and # 21 •No overflow performed in the sides. Did not use the amplitude of the field. •Not accompanied its center forwards. Lacking support in attacks of bottom lines.

•Tactical disorganization both offensive and defensive performance. •The lack of competitive experience showed very nervous players on the field in front of the opponent pressure. •Low technical level (short and long passes quality). •Their tactical performance was very poor. •Presented a low physical preparation level.

Without doubt it was the weakest team in the tournament, they were virtually massacred by all rivals marking only 1 goal (they have two in favor due to an own goal) and receive the shocking figure of 34 in just five games, this clearly demonstrates that they participated in the event with many deficiencies at all levels, from technical management to the various aspects of the game, The St. Maarten selection needs to review the work in the lower categories if they want to achieve better results, this is the experience that the event could have provided them. Recognizing their participation in the event and despite to their loses, the team showed a great sport shame and desire of victory.

106

Tactical

Basic System of Play 1-4-4-2

Technical Analysis: •Do not dominate the technical basics of game both individual and collective. •Barely managed to combine actions of 2-3 consecutive passes. •In essence they are starting to play football at this level.

Physical Analysis:

• Poor Preparation, they ended exhausted. Very low level indeed. • No legs or lungs, it is perceived to be a team with many deficiencies in their preparation as a whole. • Do not react to any need to attack or defend.

Tactical Analysis:

•Their initial system was 1-4-4-2 with a tendency to delay one of their forward and sometimes both. •Total disorganization at different times of the game. •Do not have a defined style of play and constantly vary the positioning of the players.

•The modifications did not produce any change in the game •They do not do technical, they do not know tactical, no football organization.

Defense Analysis: •Line of 4 very rigid in their movements and stowed on their area. •Innocents in marking and weak in hand to hand (1 vs 1). •Difficulties in the air game primarily on the stopped ball plays. •Too bad, no basics to defend exist. •Arrive at the wrong time, when they want to react already received goals. •The ball surprise them, when they want to run to mark, it's too late. •They received nothing but 34 goals against in 5 games.

107

Attack Analysis:

Deficiencies:

•Barely approached to the opponent area. •Lack of resources to create dangerous situations in the rival area. •Nothing is prepared in the stopped ball plays. •They were restricted to just throwing balls forward without guidance.

•It is not that they are limited, but it is unfortunately that they do not play football. • Virtually in all game aspects, it shows a team that has not been trained, with many gaps in the technical tactical order and physical limitations. • Too bad the team direction in the warming and the alternates go straight from the bench to the field. Outstanding players: This selection lacked of prominent players in the event.

The selection of Saint Martin presented a team wich prevailed the individual efforts of players over the team play. Participated in group C, made 4 games losing three and winning just one against the young team of Curacao. Receiving 13 goals with 6 in favor. To the extent that the tournament developed were improving, based in physical more than the basic fundamentals of football. Must immediately deepen teaching of basic technical elements of soccer on early ages.

Tactical

Basic System of Play 1-4-2-3-1

Technical Analysis:

Tactical Analysis

• Shortage of technicians’ resources in the individual and the collective. • Their technical gestures lack of domain of the basic fundamentals. • There were escarce combinations effective. • Punts without peer orientation to team mates. • Poor quality of long passes and receptions do not have ball possession. • Deficient technical level. • They want to run so much that they have huge technical inaccuracies.

•Initial basic system only in the matches 1-4-2-3-1. •Big tactical deficiencies, their game is based on victory attitude and fitness. •Only two modifications performed and both man by man. •Not handled wisely the match time and followed the pace imposed by the opponent. •Had no answers in the tactical order to modify their behavior in the field against different opponents and game situations.

Physical Analysis: •Well physically. Running is what they do best •Endured the onslaught of rival until their legs held. •Powerful but decreased their physical efficiency in the late match.

Defense Analysis: •Main line of defense turned in on their area and sometimes further back. •Deficients on defense of center and stopped ball plays from the sides (received 13 goals). •Poor communication between Fullbacks and goalkeeper •Very slow in the relay to ensure coverage once they were overwhelmed.

111

•Do not know how to use their fitness. •Fool on the mark in the 1vs 1 and tighten the opponent. • Gain some balls, the split ones, because they go determined but a fake or feint leaves them out of the play.

Attack Analysis: •Very limited on offense, only the right halfback occasionally disturbed opponent’s defense. •Few situations of danger in the opposite area, very isolated their players when they manage to reach the opposing goal. •Very rigid in their performance and the outside forwards never joined the attack. •Their attacks are counter or direct long runs. •One against all at individual dribbling. Do not raise their heads to define situations.

The team from St. Vincent and the Grenadines was part of the group D in the qualifiers stage having a weak participation, losing their 5 games and receive 21 goals against and only two in favor. Being located at the last place of the Group. Showed very low level in the basics fundamental principles of football in the technical and tactical order. The team management level was not good even in the development and organization of the warming up and preparation for the game and discipline out of the field. They should establish a basic training program in technical and organizational teaching of the teams at these ages.

Tactical

Basic System of Play 1-4-4-2

Technical Analysis: •Lacking of technical collective functioning and therefore individual lacking. •The goalkeeper very limited in its functions by limited technical resources. •Bad ball controls, their driving was very poor so always ended crashing with the opponent or the ball was going out from their control. •Aspect to be improved is the technical gesture controls with either foot or head. •Driving other technical element to emphasize a better ball control and play. •The player with the ball is the most important player. •Deficient goal shots due to low technical level.

Physical Analysis: •Poor physical condition which was diminishing as the tournament progressed. •Due to some player’s injury, the team finished the game with two less players in the squad.

•Their physique shows, that they have good physical conditions to work and improve fine pure speed, reaction speed, mental speed , flexibility, agility, coordination and most importantly the ability to manipulate the ball speed and maintain control.

Tactical Analysis: •The tactical system was always the 1-4-4-2, without changing it in any games. •Their own positioning left spaces despite maintaining a good number of players on defense. •There was no depth or support to the player with the ball, much less movement of the ball to other teammates. •Inefficient long outputs with a great loss of balls. •Disruption in running the offense and defense. •Only scored 2 goals in the whole tournament demonstrating defects in attacks.

115

Analysis in defense:

Deficiencies:

•It’s totally misplaced line of defense in their area without stagger, and leaving infinitely many rivals spaces, usually always marked in 1vs1 without coverage to assist mates. •Very weak and disorganized defensive system. Ignorance of the basic principles on defense. •Grouping of players in its defensive zone.

•The individual technical level was a negative factor in their performance as they failed to control the ball therefore impossible for them to have progression of their collective game. Very low technical level generally. •There was no compaction in their lines, much less pressure on the player with the ball, there was no organization in their tactical moves. •Physical level, quality to be developed with much emphasis as they are holders of a good physique, that development would allow better growth in their level of play.

Attack Analysis: •Without any way to overcome opposing defenses, very isolated center lines with the attack lines, there was never support to the player with the ball. •Disorganization in the attack functions. •No arrivals and depth to the opposite area. •Only scored two goals in the entire event. Even facing weak teams.

The Virgin Islands team was finally located on the 5th. place of group (A) achieving only a victory against the weak team of St. Maarten and a draw with Bahamas. They only scored 5 goals and received 30 goals against, including two on their own goal, they lack of a good organization both in offensive and defensive order requiring deep work with young players at all levels if they want to raise their level . It should be recognized regardless of their low level that their young players always competed with sports shame and responded positively to their presence and participation in the event.

Tactical

Basic System of Play 1-4-1-4-1

Technical Analysis:

Tactical Analysis:

•Do not dominate the individual and collective technical fundamentals of the game •Few combinations and no ball possession. •They do not have players who excel in handling the ball. •Lack of precision passing, receptions without guidance to the next action mainly from aerial balls, poor command of the non-skilfull leg. •Uncoordinated technical gestures.

•Initial basic system 1-4-1-4-1, often changed to 1-54-1, since their halfback no. 17 was placed between the centrals. •In all games their formation was changed. •No variants to counter the superiority of their opponents. •The modifications did not alter the limited operation of the equipment. •Very disorganized in their offensive and defensive performance. •Due to the low technical level it was impossible to keep organized their tactical system.

Physical Analysis: •No highlighted qualities in this regard. •Each divided ball was lost by been very slow, lack of power and resilience to escort the few attacks made, as well as the folds to which they were forced. •Short players with no physical condition that warrants a stable level of play during the match.

119

Defense Analysis: •They carried out a zone defense with delayed main line of resistance formed by 4 players. •They used line of five sometimes, but they could never stop counter attacks. •Innocent on markings and in hand to hand duels. •Ineffective in defending corners and free shots. •Easily loose their back, both the central and side players. •Do not dominate defensive principles. •Received 30 goals against in only 5 games.

Attack Analysis: • Do not set or present arguments to create dangerous situations in the opponent’s area. • Unable to make organized attacks. • Merely sent long balls, sometimes without good guidance to his only man ahead, the No. 10. Isolated
