Creative Apprentices at Chocolate Factory Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs 1. What does the Creative Apprenticeship entail? What will I be doing on a day-to-day basis? As a Creative Apprentice, you will be employed full-time for at least 6 months with a creative business which will include on-the-job training, work-place assessments, and you will do off-the-job training/study for at least one day per week at Collage Arts. If you are already working, you may talk to your employer about studying for the Creative and Digital Media course and other qualifications at Collage Arts on a day-release basis. 2. Am I eligible? What is the age range and do I need any prior qualifications? The programme is aimed at 16-18 year olds but if you are 19+, you are welcome to apply as well. Most apprentices have completed their GCSEs; if you have some experience in the field, no prior qualifications are required. If you do not have GCSEs in English, Maths or ICT at C grade or above, you will also complete Functional Skills in these areas which will help build up your career portfolio and skills base. A good dose of enthusiasm, focus and ambition to succeed in your chosen career pathway will also help you to achieve your goals on the programme. 3. When does the programme start and how long will it last? We have apprentices starting every 2-3 months and the programme is designed in line with your needs, so it may take six to eight months or ten to twelve months. It depends on your motivation and career aspirations. 4. Will I be paid and if so how much? As a creative apprentice you will be paid £96 per week. I don't live close to Wood Green. Can I study from home? 5. Yes, we offer a distance learning option for some off-the-job learning modules, but you will be required to attend monthly off-the-job sessions here at the Chocolate Factory. 6. Can I specialise in one particular area? For example, Music Technology or Video Production The Creative Apprenticeship covers a wide range of areas within the Creative Industries and in order to meet the requirements of the NVQ qualifications, you will need to develop your skills in a number of these areas. However, if you have a particular area of interest you can use your skills to obtain the evidence needed through work projects revolving around this specialism. 7. What qualification will I achieve by taking part in the apprenticeship? The Advanced Diploma in Creative and Digital Media Level 3 8. How many hours a week will I be required to attend? You will be required to work at the employer’s site for at least 16 hours per week and take part in one days training at college per week. 9. Who will be employing me? Can I choose which employer I work with? You will go through a matching process with the prospective employer which will help you both to decide if you wish to go ahead.
