Country Everyone knows it is the finishing touches that make the wedding spectacular, and country bride layouts are exactly the same! Joannie McBride used burlap banners and fabric trim as the perfect way to complete the country look on her layout.

Into the Sunset by Joannie McBride. Supplies: Patterned paper: Canvas Corp and My Mind’s Eye; Burlap and canvas flower: Canvas Corp; Stickers: American Crafts and Echo Park Paper Co.; Banner: American Crafts; Button: Fancy Pants Designs; Pin: Teresa Collins Designs; Baker’s twine: Close To My Heart and Jillibean Soup; Adhesive: Therm O Web; Other: Fabric and pen.

Weddings are pricey, but your wedding layouts don’t have to be. Sometimes the simplest embellishments can add the perfect amount of rustic appeal. Instead of using traditional ribbon for accents, use scraps of burlap and lace, like Cara Vincens did, to finish off her country charm. Keep your accents au naturel or use ink to highlight wedding colors! Blissfully Happy by Cara Vincens. Supplies: Cardstock: American Crafts; Patterned paper and brad: BasicGrey; Lace: Lakeland Limited; Ribbon: Fancy Pants Designs; Flower: Prima; Ink; Ranger Industries; Stickers: Pink Paislee; Film strip: Advantus; Pearls: Kaisercraft; Punch: Martha Stewart Crafts; Pen: Newell Rubbermaid; Adhesive: I Love to Create and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L; Other: Burlap, doily, and patterned paper.

Add a dash of sophistication with blooms, like Iris Uy did to her fresh interpretation of a travel page. The clusters of mixed media roses placed on top of rose patterned paper adds wonderful dimension to the page, grounds the photographs, and adds innovative texture.

Discover and Explore by Iris Uy. Supplies: Patterned paper and trim: Webster’s Pages; Modeling paste: LeFranc & Bourgeois; Spray ink: Tattered Angels; Leaves and mask: Prima; Paint: PanPastel; Glitter medium: Jo Sonja’s; Adhesive: UHU; Other: Buttons, canvas, pen, and stickers.

1 HOW TO CREATE HANDMADE ROSES

2 1 2 3

Spread modeling paste onto canvas fabric using mask, and cut into strips. Once dry, twist strips together and adhere to cardboard circle base to make rose. Add color using spray ink.

a P e rom CAPTURING MEMORIES THEN AND NOW by Natalie McConnell

Time has a way of sneaking up on us, and before we know it, we’re looking back on childhood memories or staring in awe at how much a child has grown. Time will pass whether we want it to or not, so the best thing to do is pick up our cameras now and start documenting how time flies! This feature will give you ideas for fun and innovative methods to capture both the past and present in creative ways. So, grab some old photos, your favorite lens, and let’s get ready for a blast from the past!

25 Years Later by Cassandra Cyr. Supplies: Patterned paper, banner, flashcards, and journaling spot: Pretty Little Studio; Ribbon: Offray; Pins: Maya Road; Stickers: American Crafts; Adhesive: 3M; Other: Pen and thread. May/June 2013 • CREATING KEEPSAKES

For a real eye-opener of how much your child has grown, find a photo of him doing a favorite activity several years ago. Replicate the same scene with him today, like Elisha Snow did. These side by side photos make great album openers or gifts!

Now you see them, now you don’t! Just because childhood games may be a thing of the past doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun with them. Dig out old photos of you playing Duck, Duck, Goose or waterguns and try to keep a straight face while you re-create the exact same game as grown-ups, like Jami Hebl’s kids!

A tiny album

can highlight a big connection, like Summer Fullerton’s small album chronicling the shared experience of attending the same college her grandmother did in a previous generation. An album like this can help your own children feel more connected to an ancestor they may not have had the chance to meet.

Kraft tags, simple embellishments, and small photographs combine to create a little album with big impact.

A g r k a s d A Scrapbook a creative commencement address straight from your graduate of any age

I Learned by Deena Boese. Digital Supplies: Software: Adobe; Patterned paper, word bubbles, and border: BasicGrey; Brushes: Hero Arts; Fonts: Avant Garde, Rockwell, and Steelfish.

Graduation day—it passes in a blur of excitement. But with a little effort, your graduation layouts can go beyond the traditional caps, gowns, and tassels, to become creative commencement addresses of their own. Let the ideas on the following pages inspire you with ideas for capturing memories, sharing wisdom, and giving encouragement that your grad will remember

Important life lessons can be learned at any age. This five year-old’s kindergarten wisdom, recorded in a series of word bubbles alongside a dominant photo, creates a strong—and fun—visual she won’t soon forget.

Let your layout do double-duty by showcasing your grad’s achievements up front and tucking a personal note of advice and encouragement in a secret pocket.

You Did It! by Sabrina Ropp. Supplies: Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper and D, CWV Omc.; Patterned paper: My Mind’s Eye and Echo Park Paper Co.; Stickers: Echo Park Paper Co.; Pen: EK Success; Adhesive: Elmer’s, Paper Studio and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.

Sabrina Ropp printed the focal photo twice then cut the graduation cap from the second photo and adhered it over the first with foam squares so it would appear to be soaring off the page. Hats off to this idea!
