Simon Ivascu, Steven Ivascu and Wesley Pop, fled Romania as teenagers. Being conscientious Christians, they could not join the army because freedom of worship was totally restricted. Refusing to join would result in imprisonment and persecution. Their death-defying journey to freedom from Romania to Italy, including two weeks inside a locked container with no light, and not enough food and water, was fraught with danger and peril. Cheryl J. Sanders has been the Senior Pastor of the Third Street Church of God in Washington, D.C. since 1997. She is also Professor of Christian Ethics at the Howard University School of Divinity. With M.Div. and Th.D. degrees from Harvard Divinity School, Sanders is widely published and has written several books, including Ministry at the Margins.
