A Privilege

Over the past days Karen and I have been deeply humbled by the outpouring of love and support from our family here at Central. We want to begin by acknowledging how appreciative we have been from the love we have felt. During this time we have also received many congratulations regarding being appointed as the Lead Pastor here at CCC. In many ways, this has felt a little awkward for us. While I know that may seem a little strange, it really comes down to how we view this call and our own hearts. The reason I say this is because Karen and I truly view this as a calling of God to shepherd HIS body here at Central Christian Church—a body that we have grown to love in all its uniqueness, difference, history, and generations. We feel the exhortation by Peter in chapter 5, verses 1-4:

“So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.” This calling is one we see as a calling to die. Our heart is to love and serve each and every member of our church family as best we can with every gift that God has given to us for as long as God keeps us here. Our only ambition is to faithfully love Christ’s church the way He has loved us, through sacrifice and example. We know that we are insufficient for these things, yet we believe

that through the Spirit in us He can give us all that we need to fulfill this calling. (2 Corinthians 3:4-6) We know there will be trying times during which we invite you to push against the schemes of the enemy and resist rumors, bitterness, and assumptions and instead, please come and talk with us. We also invite you during these times to be ever watchful and prayerful for this body, giving grace to all those around (including us when we fail). We believe that there will be exciting times of God’s favor, growth, and fruitfulness for His kingdom. During these times we invite you to praise the Lord with us, lifting His name high and giving Him all the glory as He works through every one of us equipping us with the gifts needed to fulfill His call. It is a privilege to serve you. We promise to do our best to please the Lord by doing it the way He has called and exampled for us. And we excitedly call you to jump on this train, pour into this body, serve those around you, and grow with us toward more of his likeness. One heart, one mind, one soul...unified by one Spirit, one Baptism, and one mission. We love you, Church! darren, karen and the mcclintock family
