2021 Guild President Lisa Corley

I am excited to welcome you to the 43rd Annual Spring Brass Ring. Thank you for sharing this special evening with us and for supporting The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and the Barbara Davis Center!

We are eternally grateful to our generous supporters, including our volunteers, corporations, families, and individuals, not only for tonight but for your dedication over the past 40 years. Yes . . . for over 40 years! With your help, the Guild has extended a helping hand to patients and their families living with type 1 diabetes and has provided millions of dollars to the Barbara Davis Center. The Guild raises funds for important research, promotes diabetes awareness and education, assists families in need, provides continuing education scholarships, and sponsors activities for patients and their families. It has been my honor to stand along-side each of you and to serve as the Guild President again this year. I have witnessed the incredible impact our organization has had on so many lives, not only over the past 40 years, but especially during this turbulent year. Our patients and their families’ need for assistance has grown significantly during the global pandemic. Before the world crisis, 40% of our patients were either uninsured or underserved, with 35% of our patients living below the poverty level, and these numbers have sadly risen this past year. The financial burden for diabetic care can be crippling and the burden over a lifetime is astounding. At the Barbara Davis Center, no patient is every turned away! Our patients and their families need our help more than ever before!

2

Tonight, we celebrate the strength and courage of our type 1 patients and their families, as well as the extraordinary advancements made in the field of diabetic care and treatment. Our Guild has a storied 40-year history wherein we have witnessed many advancements in the care of patients with type 1 diabetes. However, until there is a cure, we will not stop our fight for those affected by this disease. Although this years’ Spring Brass Ring event is virtual again, we are looking very forward to returning to our in-person Spring Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show in 2022. We are excited to be giving you a “behind-the-scenes” peak of the people and experts who produce our annual signature event and to preview our designer, Lourdes Chavez, whose glorious designs and impeccable fabrics will be debuted on the runway next year. Also, our Spring Brass Ring would not be complete without a runway fashion show! We are thrilled to introduce you to our precious patients/models who will be gracing our runway this evening. Thank you again to each of you and to our amazing staff at the Children’s Diabetes Foundation who have guided and supported us throughout the years. A special thank you to Britt Moreno and Hallie Behr for being a part of our special evening and to Dana Davis for her continued exemplary leadership both now and as she leads us into the future. Thank you to our doctors, nurses, social workers and staff who tirelessly and successfully continue to treat our patients and advance the frontiers of knowledge through research. The Barbara Davis Center is not only a research powerhouse and a 1st class medical facility, but it is a place filled with compassion and love because of all of you! The BDC is a very special “home” to many. Thank you for inviting us into your homes this evening and for your unwavering and continued support! Warm Regards,

Lisa Corley

Chairs’ Welcome

When my dear friend Scottie Iverson asked me to join her in co-chairing the 2021 Spring Brass Ring, I was honored and excited for all the possibilities! With a 30 year background in events and design, my mind reeled with new ideas and fresh possibilities for the event. However, none of us remotely foresaw the world-wide wide challenge we would all soon be participating in. The ability to quickly ’shift gears’ and re-trim our sales for a different course is one of the many abilities that we have had to engage, and the resiliency that we have all had to muster is reflected in the spirit of our 2021 Virtual Event and Presentation! All of us on the committee, our guild members and the dedicated staff and volunteers at the Barbara Davis Center celebrate with you-our viewers and long term loyal supporters who have succeeded to make the Spring Brass Ring a Denver tradition and much anticipated yearly celebration. We are immensely appreciative for your participation in all manner of your generous contributions of time, talent and treasure and we revel with you in the triumph of overcoming challenges and rising to the occasion. Welcome and enjoy our evening together! Thank you kindly,

Where to begin to express what an honor and privilege it was to be chosen Co-Chair Spring Brass Ring 2021… To play a role in the signature event of The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation - after years of attending, serving on its committees and gathering tablemates for this highly anticipated day of auctions, education, entertainment and fun! What an extraordinary achievement of The Guild - a strong and vibrant volunteer organization to keep this tradition alive during challenging times. We are proud to be one of the few nonprofits hosting a fashion show, especially of this caliber. The spirit, the talent, the creativity, the exceptional committees, hands-on committee chairs, the vast production team, the models (children with type 1 diabetes as well as the beautiful women) all came together as a remarkable team. Their mission: to raise funds to assist children with type 1 diabetes and their families and support research. Special recognition goes to CDF’s Executive Director Dana Davis for her wonderful wisdom and superior leadership, Miriam Andolini for her energy, insight and enthusiasm as the real “project manager” of the entire fundraiser, and The Guild President Lisa Corley whose generosity, guidance, loyalty and friendship are unmatched in the charity world. And, fashion connoisseur Dan Sharp who brings us the exquisite collections of our featured designer. Welcome to the pandemic preview of Spring Brass Ring 2022 with Lourdes Chavez! Thank you for the memories and sharing your hearts and resources to find a cure! With love, gratitude and hope in 2021,

Scottie Taylor Iverson

CBS4’s Britt Moreno is the 2019 Heartland Emmy winner for best “News anchor.” She anchors CBS4 This Morning from 4:30-7am as well as the 12pm news. Britt is also an Emmy winning reporter and winner of the 2017 Colorado Broadcaster’s Association Award of Excellence.

Britt Moreno

She is the Wednesday’s Child reporter — a role she holds close to her heart. This weekly segment highlights children in foster care who are in need of families. Britt looks forward to meeting these special children each week and bringing you their stories every Wednesday! She is the winner of the 2017 Colorado Broadcaster’s Association Award of Excellence for her “Aging Out” series, which shows what happens to children when they are not adopted and age out of the foster care system. Britt is grateful to the Coloradans who have embraced her since she joined CBS4 in March 2013. Previously, she reported and anchored at KSAZ in Phoenix. She first reported in her home state of Texas and got her start as a broadcast journalist in college hosting an entertainment news show. Her reporting has introduced her to wonderful causes and inspiring people in Colorado. She especially loves working at a station which places emphasis on “Covering 6

Colorado” news first which includes sharing stories of people helping others in the community. These stories remind people to be hopeful and represent all the good news that happens in Colorado. Britt hosted a piece that was part of the 2017 Emmy award winning “Overall News Excellence” submission. She also hosted the Emmy award winning production that earned CBS4 the 2016 “News Excellence” award. When she was in Arizona, she earned an Emmy for a report she put together that shadowed Border Patrol agents during an overnight patrol in the Arizona desert where she interviewed a group of suspected undocumented immigrants the agents encountered. Britt attended Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas where she double majored in Communication and Spanish. She loves experiencing Colorado’s outdoors, working with kids, country music and spending time with her husband and their black Labrador Retriever, Knox. Britt enjoys waking up really early (2:20 am) for what she calls her “dream job” in a vibrant city.

Featured Designer Lourdes Chavez

Lourdes is a multi-talented fashion designer born in Mexico and raised in Los Angeles. Lourdes’ exquisite designs have been worn by stars and celebrities at inaugural balls, red carpets, high profile business venues, and weddings. She’s designed for TV, worked with the famous fashion house Travilla, and launched her own line of semi-custom garments in 2000. Lourdes attended the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) where she was chosen as one of only ten students who got the opportunity to work directly with special designers and instructors. She competed in Switzerland and France, winning first prize using Abraham fabrics – the same revered, high-fashion textile maker used by YSL. Lourdes also won the Nolan Miller competition to design for the TV show Dallas. Linda Evans donned her yellow and black dress design in the last scene of the last original episode. In 2009 Lourdes won Fashion Group International’s Crystal Award in Palm Desert for fashion design. Today, Lourdes has her own line of semi-custom garments produced in L.A. She designs some of her own fabrics and uses unique and luxury fabrics from around Europe. Lourdes Chavez collections are produced twice a year with 8

approximately 90 pieces in each. Clients can choose from up to 60 different fabric swatches and additions like glass blown buttons and crystals. These elegant combinations produce daytime dresses, suits, and separates for cocktail and formal events. A few fun pieces are also available for resort or casual wear. Her designs are sought after throughout the U.S. and Canada, with some “Grand Clients” relying exclusively on Lourdes for their entire wardrobe.
