SPÅNGA

1ST AND 2ND GENERATION IMMIGRANT POPULATION CLOSE BUT SEGREGATED

The two neighborhoods are close but divided by class, wealth, and an unattractive park.

Our site: the neighborhoods of Spånga and Tensta

Tensta has an 84% 1st and 2nd generation immigrant population. These immigrants are mostly Somalian, Turkish, and Iranian.

150,000 50,000 seks SEK 150,000 seks 369,000 SEK AVERAGE INCOME

1 USD = 6.4 SEK

The average income of a person in Spånga is 369,000 SEKS, while the average income for a person in Tensta is only 150,000 SEKS

INCORPORATION OF LOCAL ICONS

By bringing distinct local icons of each neighborhood into the tower, we hope to draw interest and users from both sides of the park.

BRIDGE AND HEAL

The two neighborhoods will be bridged by our tower and through the use of the tower, the rift between Spånga and Tensta can begin to heal.

“We begin by asking the

question...what is the nature of the skyscraper in Scandinavia?

Structural Logic

Vertical loads distributed along a diagrid structure to minimize internal structural columns; we expanding strategic points of the diagrid for particular programmatic situations and interests.

Compositional Strategies

Divide into front, back, left, right, zones

Demarcate zones, create public zones where large groups may gather. Form start to recipricate flows of circulation and articulate a cohesive architectural language.

Align zones to axes, roof and skin of the structures are optimized for solar orientation and visual connection.

MAP

Manual of Architectural Possibilities David Garcia Studio, Denmark 2011

MAP (Manual of Architectural Possibilities) is a publication aiming to merge the fields of science and research on one hand, and architectural design on the other. The publication exemplifies this approach via it’s format. MAP presents itself as a folded A1, with only two pages. Research and data on one page, and architectural projects on the other. I was mainly in charge of diagramming and sequencing of diagrams for this publication and it is with honor that it is now our 4th and most recent publication thus far.
